Why care about Japanese sales charts? They have a very awkward choice in hardware and software. They're kinda irrelevant to the west for the most part. The few studios over there who are relevant has been westernized to the point where they're hardly Japanese anymore.
You wrote: "(...) At least the Scorpio (I can feel the PS fanboys crying already) offers a next step up in the evolution of the actual hardware, rather than being the bare minimum for another 400 big ones. (...)"
You know nothing about Scorpio. Nobody knows anything about Scorpio. There has been no official reveal of the specifications. You're making up that statement. It won't release before winter 2017 which is a long time from now. Did you forget what happened when Sony released a $499 and $599 console? Sony has to keep the price as low as possible or else they'll get into the whole PS3 situation again which is a bad idea. I think it's safe to say that you're a troll.
But then Sony release a more powerful console a few months after Scorpio. And then Microsoft release a more powerful console six months later. And then Sony... Oh, it looks like you can never buy a new console because a better console will be released six months to a year after it...
I welcome console players to the new generation of consoles that will be similar to PC hardware refresh and upgrade cycles... And I love it. It's great for gamers who wants a better experience.
You're completely wrong though. If you have a 1080p TV then you'll get better graphics and a much smoother performance with the PS4 Pro than with a PS4 Slim / standard edition. This is what people don't seem to understand right now. If you get slowdowns and/or stuttering, that you do get quite often on the standard PS4, you won't get it with PS4 Pro AND you'll get better graphics... And faster loading, and better WiFi, and so on...
Doubling the TFLOPs, increasing CPU clocks, adding a better WiFi card and a 1TB HDD for only $100 more is 'little improvements'? If you have a 4K TV then the difference between slim and pro is a blurry experience, because the TV has to do heavy upscaling, versus a significantly clearer experience. If not then you'll still get better graphics and performance than on the slim. Where the standard and slim has slowdowns and stuttering, the pro most definitely won't have it on 1080p because it has double the TFLOPs, so... That justifies it... But people are free to make their own choices though.
I'm going to buy the Playstation 4 Pro despite the fact that I already have a Playstation 4 because I want a better gaming experience. Makes no sense to not purchase the Playstation 4 Pro unless you can't afford it though.
I can think of several reason why they didn't include it. It would increase the price further which would make it less attractive. It's primarily a gaming console, isn't it? The sales of 4K Blu-Rays, as it in general isn't a widespread format, is too weak to justify it. Sounds like good reasons to me.
Possibly. If Scorpio is a lot more powerful than PS4 Pro at a reasonable price then that alone could force Sony's hand though. It's a race at this point. Sony moves forward a bit, then Microsoft moves forward a bit, and so on.
Which is not a problem because PS4's API can feed the info from the CPU to the GPU using all the threads available in the system. With higher level APIs such as DirectX (as of DX11, not DX12) you're limited to a single thread at a time, so... It's safe to say that Fallout 4 and Just Cause 3 on PS4 is simply badly optimized. This shouldn't be a surprise because Bethesda is notorious for being bad at optimizing their games (especially on consoles). The Witcher 3 runs stable at 30fps on PS4 with no issues (with all the latest patches). I never experienced a single drop in framerate when playing it. I played it several months after launch though.
Edit: Higher level API means further away from the hardware. Good for compatibility, bad for performance. Just to clarify.
@N4LIFE
Winter 2017 isn't "right around the corner" though. Sony can release another console by then or short time after it, so...
You couldn't be more wrong though. I mean, sure, some games does utilize the CPU for physics, but most developers offloads the calculations of physics to the GPU because it's significantly more efficient at doing it. The eight cores, even at low clocks, is more than sufficient because developers offloads as much as possible to the GPU. In fact, they could triple the performance of the GPU and the CPU still wouldn't be a bottleneck for developers who actually knows what they're doing though. An Intel i3 (2c/4t) with GTX 1080 performs roughly the same as an Intel i7 (4c/8t or 8c/12t) in a lot of games that offloads as much as possible to the GPU. The only issue I can think of with the CPU is in huge MMORPGs with a lot of players as the game becomes significantly more CPU intensive at that point as you can't simply offload this workload to the GPU.
Edit: PS4's API can feed info to the GPU through all the threads. DirectX on PC can only feed info to the GPU using one thread at a time (it's changing with DX12). It's important to remember this though.
Innovation in motion capture for games means nothing if it doesn't do anything for the gameplay because we'll just end up with another QTE fest that hardly constitutes as a "game" in the end product. The game industry is in serious need of innovation in gameplay. The gameplay that we've seen from the game thus far has been quite underwhelming and lacks any sense of innovation. We can just go to the cinema if we want to watch a movie.
I suppose that's fair because it would be too much work to test all games on the console. It's just a shame that consumers have to deal with these kinds of performance issues from time to time. It sure feels like PS1 and PS2 games was a lot more consistent in terms of performance than PS3 and PS4 games though.
Sony should implement a quality control system that prevents games with serious performance issues from being published on the platform until it has been fixed (quality assurance team?).
Weekly Hardware charts shows that Europe has been ahead of NA in terms of PS4 sales multiple times in the past months. It's a bit up and down. They seem to be pretty close though.
Because it has a strong fanbase. If they released a game that was almost broke and ran at 20 fps they would still get 9/10 reviews and sell a lot. I think that Skyrim on PS3 is a good example.
It's about time they did it. I think Europe makes up for most game sales on PlayStation. It would make sense to have events in Europe as well. The only issue is that it would be a bit boring if they show the same games from E3 2016 though.
I love Bethesda games but they have awful developers that doesn't know how to properly optimized their games. It doesn't help much that they run on an awful engine as well though. If Bethesda had better developers and a better engine, then Fallout 4 could easily run at 60 fps without any issues. I think it's a bit sad that reviewers refuse to criticize the technical issues and reduce the scores of Bethesda games, because Bethesda won't change anything if they constantly get away with it.
How much will it cost? The settlement system is fun, but it feels like a chore after a while. Maybe this DLC will add something to make it a bit more fun?
I wish it was present at E3. I'm really looking forward to the game. I hope that it's going to be a lot better than Mass Effect 3 which was a little disappointing in comparison to previous games in my opinion. If they're developing it on the Frostbite engine, then it'll probably look and run very good as well. I just hope that they focus on singleplayer and doesn't add in any unnecessary online or multiplayer functionality in the game.
"It's unquestionably going to be a masterpiece (...)"
Bold statement. The game has been delayed a lot because of various issues which isn't a good sign. The trailers has also received mixed reception where a lot of people have pointed out that the art style of the main character looks very out of place and doesn't fit in with the rest of the world in the game. I'll reserve my opinions for when the game has been released though. Could be great. Could disappoint. Who knows?

You think that doubling the TFLOPs is a 'minor boost in performance'? lol...

Probably why Microsoft is releasing Scorpio in Q4 2017.
