@Vaako007 You're well within your right to enjoy it and I won't begrudge you your enjoyment. However, I personally see it as hideously dated. For a company that thrives on sandbox game worlds and hyper realistic physics Rockstar's mission structure is ruthlessly linear to the point of absurdity. At no point does the game have confidence in the player to approach a mission uniquely so they are railroaded into playing each mission exactly how Rockstar want you to, with any resistance from you met with a 'Mission Failed' screen.
@Rich33 I'm not a graphics wh$@e but it's pretty horrendous when you see it in person. Much like Remake it stiill has rather offensive texture pop in too with some of the rock faces never even making the effort to turn up at all. It's bizarre because the cut scenes look phenomenal, but when you're 'in game' it's so easy to spot where corners were cut or UE4 assets were simply plonked in place with no finesse. I (slightly pedantic) took umbrage in the choice of font usage for a lot of the shops and stalls too. It just looks as if it was slapped on with no depth or shade to the area it's mean to cover. I mostly enjoyed the game, barring the terrible ending, but there are numerous times when it feels like the whole thing is being held together with staples.
@Rich33 Pro upgrade is the only way to enjoy 60fps with clean, crisp visuals. They added a sharper option in the base performance mode, whilst keeping the terrible original option too for some reason, and it still looks horribly blurred. I had to play it in 30fps due to how bad it was (and still is)
@Lightworker It's not that die hard fans want it to play exactly like the original in terms of plot beats but nearly everything new they've added is either superfluous or in some cases outright bad. Many sections are unnecessarily padded out and characters like Chadley or Roche feel like they've jumped in from a different dimension thematically (Roche utterly sucks)
The mind numbing ending of Rebirth was the nail in the coffin in terms of my anticipation for the third game. It was so poorly written, tone deaf and over the top that I've no hope that they can salvage the narrative arc in the finale.
@ApostateMage https://www.ign.com/articles/the-resident-evil-game-that-cant-be-remade The main (rather predictable) issue arrives nearer the end of the article. Numerous western outlets didn't like it upon it's release and i'd probably bet it's something Capcom will just want to avoid.
A colossal goatcluck. To have Bluepoint working on one is quite possibly the worst of the lot. Why buy a studio with a track record of nothing more than (admittedly excellent remasters and remakes) and task them with a GaaS title from one of your biggest IPs?
There will certainly be an overly long, tediously drawn out cut scene which'll have my eyes rolling into my head leaving me perplexed as to why Kojima is put on a pedestal. Then there will be a gameplay mechanic where I'll understand why I should put up with his many flaws.
Rescue Mission's inventiveness is still the biggest jaw drop Team Asobi have ever created but Astro Bot on PS5 is hard to find fault with and full to the brim with creativity. It was certainly my favourite of the year.
Metro morphed out of GameCentral which took over from Digitiser and Mr Biffo (back to the Teletext days) so they're far older than many of the current mob of journalists. Out of the list you give I only know Critical Drinker and that's because he reviews movies. He seems to have unintentionally taken on RLM's Mr Plinkett character now that Stoklasa retired him. I doubt half of his audience give a toss about games if you were inclined to notice the difference in views.
@DennisReynolds Like dude (one shall adopt that rather annoying common parlance) did you like read the response? I already listed one. You could also start with naming a few of the grifters
@DennisReynolds The small handful of outlets complaining online equates to the small handful of grifters complaining online. Both have a regular audience that is swayed by their points. Whether that amounts to an oversized army of devotees championing their angle can be debated. My issue is that it distracted from the geniune merits of the game.
@DennisReynolds I disagree. There were plenty of the morally anointed Mary Whitehouse types running their mouths just as tediously as the grifters. Metro's rants especially were completely preposterous.
The immensely wearisome push back on Stellar's physics by intolerable rabble rousers on both sides marred what essentially is a pretty simple good old fashioned video game. One that I thoroughly enjoyed.
For all the tediously overblown controversy Stellar Blade was a thoroughly entertaining game. It's unfair to.judge it (either way) solely on body physics.
Hand sumo sounds perilously too close to a Carry On Up The Double Entendre. As in "I'm afraid I've got to 'pop off' with Babs Windsor and partake in a spot of hand sumo"
There needs to be an collection of Astro Bot fruit machines in a long row in one of the Vegas casinos. All those OAP's gambling away their grandchildren's inheritance in pursuit of some Playstation coinage.
Wukong was (and still is) a visual mess on PS5. The fps is bad in quality mode and just using frame gen to get from 30 to anywhere near 60 not only has input lag but reduces the screen to an ugly blur.
The utterly deafening stupidity of Rebirth's ending soured the game for me. Astro however, was delightful from start to finish. Polished to perfection too.
@AfroMario The service provider is usually 'empowered' by the decision to offer a product and yet the consumer of said product is usually deemed a weird isolated, one dimensional figure who shouldn't be consuming said product. It's an excellent remake of an all time classic so much rejoicing is to be had that Bloober truly pulled it off.

I'm just hoping it's nowhere near as dated as RDR2 when it comes to Rockstar's god awful antiquated mission structure.

Re: Housemarque's Swanky New Office Is Ready for Business, Complete with Awesome Returnal Spacesuit
Returnal is still by far the best game this generation for me. A butt clenching, palm sweating cacophony of orchestrated violence.
