Re: Hands On: PS Portal Is a Whole New Device with Cloud Streaming Update

BlueLobster

I gave Mortal Kombat 1 a go today to see how the streaming handles input lag and I was impressed. Granted, that was on a wireless fiber connection so I’m sure that helped. My early impression (from the few games that I’ve tried) is that it seems to perform way better than logging into the PS5 remotely on the same wireless network.

Re: Silent Hill F Is Another Game That Stumbles on PS5 Pro

I posted this concern here last November, just prior to the PS5 Pro launch:

“If it amplifies/misinterprets graphical issues already present, can the feature (PSSR) be turned off for games that it doesn’t play nicely with? If not, will those games look worse over time as a result of the AI “learning” the wrong improvement process?”

I decided to give Sony the benefit of the doubt, despite my trepidation, and bought a Pro at launch anyway. Now it seems like my concerns were not entirely unjustified.

Re: 'There's No Real Need for a PS6': Industry Veteran Weighs in on Next-Gen Debate

Isn’t the PS5 Pro supposed to be a mid-generation refresh? It hasn’t even been out for a year yet. With the price having gone up to $750 in recent weeks, it’s a little insulting that Sony would be putting PS6 “top of mind”. First, how about delivering on the promise that the games running on PS5 Pro would look and/or perform better. There have already been examples of games looking/running worse. Do they expect people to shell out $999 (just a guess) for a PS6 so soon? As many others have pointed out, we have most definitely reached a point of diminishing returns. Come up with some fun new concepts for games that don’t take 10+ years to develop. For perspective, my son was 2 years old when GTA 5 launched on PS3. He’s 14 now and GTA 6 is still another year out. Not that I want him playing that anyway but it’s crazy that the development cycle has spanned 3 console generations and half of an actual human generation.

  • TLoU3 will be set 20 years later.
  • Ellie and Abby, now in their 40’s, collaborate for a cure by tracking down another doctor/scientist that can synthesize a cure from Ellie’s immunity, giving her a 2nd chance to save humanity.
  • Young-adult JJ and Lev have active roles in the story.
  • Lev sails to “other countries”.
  • More flashback levels to fill in the gaps.
  • Shocking reveal: Abby was pregnant with Owen’s baby! Actually, I’d have to check the timeline on that one.
  • Happy ending!

Re: Lunar Remastered Collection Brings Two Classic RPGs to PS4 in April

The Sega CD version had me hooked a lifetime ago. That prompted me to buy the complete versions of the games when they released on PS1. No steel books (steel jewel cases?) back then but they did include a cloth map and mini hardcover instruction book. Challenging (if not repetitive) battles as someone else pointed out. Those early level conflicts weren’t always automatic wins. I couldn’t get into the Vita version, for some reason. Hopefully, the developers are treating this one with care.

Re: Crummy Classic Sports Games Compiled in Accolade Sports Collection on PS5, PS4

Wow, I remember playing a fair amount of Hardball! on the Amiga 500 back in the day. The catcher’s mitt moved independent of his body when placing pitches and singles down the line all animated the same way. Not exactly The Show type sim we have these days but jolly good fun 40 years ago. I don’t remember the sequel. Now, EA needs to bring back One on One: Dr. J vs. Larry Bird!

Re: PS5 Pro Announced, Costs $700 and Out in November

BlueLobster

For $700, not only should it include a disc drive, but one that can play discs from every PlayStation generation (PS1-PS5). That, in addition to the upgraded specs announced. I realize it’s a digital world nowadays, but I have 30 years worth of physical games that would likely see more action if there was an all-in-one console solution for playing them. I’m all for the latest and greatest tech but it would be nice to have the option to revisit simpler times when the mood strikes. Astro Bot seems to get it. Maybe he should be running the show.

Re: PlayStation Fans Are Totally Torn Over PS5 Pro

BlueLobster

I’m probably in the minority here, but a great value-add feature for me would be full physical disc backward compatibility going all the way back to the PS1 (my original PS3 fat won’t live forever). I have amassed a sizable collection of disc-based games in nearly 30 years of supporting the PlayStation brand. I upgraded to a PS4 Pro when it was released to go along with my new 4K TV because that was a legitimate reason at the time (although I think Sony dropped the ball by not including a UHD disc player in that console). I digress. The improved specs of a PS5 Pro could be a less compelling reason this time around which is why I think Sony should sweeten the deal in other ways such as full physical disc BC, additional USB-C ports, larger SSD, etc. One PS to rule them all!
