One of the few real highlights of this generation thus far has been the abundance of retro game compilations, preserving classics on contemporary hardware.
Accolade Sports Collection is honestly one that will be difficult to recommend, as this selection of retro sports releases will have aged like milk. However, we appreciate publisher QUByte’s efforts bringing these 90s titles back.
The collection includes five games: Summer Challenge, Winter Challenge, HardBall, HardBall II, and Hoops Shut Up and Jam. You may know the last game better as Barkley Shut Up and Jam, as the NBA Hall of Famer Charles Barkley is actually credited as a designer on the title.

The press release includes an overview of each individual entry:
- Winter Challenge
- Experience the rush of competing in eight of the most stimulating and challenging events of winter sport. Every time you play, you will be pushing yourself to go a little faster, jump a little farther: luge, downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, bobsled, speed skating, giant slalom, biathlon and ski jump.
- Summer Challenge
- A lifetime of training boils down to one moment. The fastest, strongest and most skilled champions from around the globe gather in one great city to determine who is the best of the best. In this Winter Challenge sequel, the summer edition includes 8 incredible events: kayak, archery, 400m hurdles, high jump, pole vault, equestrian, javelin and cycling.
- HardBall
- The baseball legend is reborn! Get ready to relive the thrill of the game that defined a generation of baseball simulators. Originally released in the 80s and 90s, it now returns with the classic charm that won over fans around the world. With engaging gameplay, captivating retro graphics and a dose of nostalgia, Hardball! offers fun for both veterans who want to relive great moments and new players who love the style of classic games. Assemble your team, challenge opponents and experience the game that remains a home run to this day! Challenge a friend and play in local multiplayer mode!
- HardBall II
- The iconic baseball simulator series has evolved with Hardball II! Originally released in the 90s, the sequel redefined the genre once again with advanced graphics for the time, refined gameplay and a level of depth that delighted sports fans. Manage strategies, perfect your skills and enjoy the virtual baseball experience that continues to be a benchmark among retro games. Local multiplayer mode for two players!
- Hoops Shut Up and Jam
- Court action like you’ve never seen! Get into the breakneck rhythm of Hoops Shut Up and Jam!, the street basketball classic that marked the 90s. No hard rules, no limits – this is raw, intense, fun basketball, inspired by the unmistakable style of the basketball stars of the time. Ask your best friend for help in the cooperative local multiplayer mode or challenge your biggest opponent in the one-on-one local multiplayer mode.
As you’d expect, each game has been upgraded with save states, filters, rewind, and other modern quality of life improvements.
Will you be re-experiencing these games on modern hardware? Let us know in the comments section below.

Who wants this...
@Contimaloris
The worst thing of all is that there is not a single decent current game about the Olympic games.
I purchased QuBytes’ Zero Tolerance for the PlayStation because I grew up playing it on the Genesis… Big mistake! It felt terrible to play, so much so that I settled for watching a playthrough on youtube instead. Hopefully this collection turns out better.
@Fritz167 Tokyo 2020 by Sega was alright.
As someone who often buys the retro game collections.. I'll give this one a miss.
I reviewed these when they came out originally and they bombed then...
Do you have to waggle your stick (ooh, matron)?
Bring back Double Dribble LOL!
Summer Games 1+2, Winter Games, World Games, California Games.
EPYX classics that would make a great retro collection for the right price.
I really wish Sega would port Decathlete / Athlete Kings. Spent hours on it back in the Saturn days, best olympic style sports game imo
@Futureshark I was literally about to say the exact same thing. An Epyx retro collection of those games would be incredible!
@Futureshark @Bingbongboyo There hasn’t been a proper caber toss game since.
The comment about the improved graphics of hardball 2 cracked me up.
I'd buy One On One: Dr. J vs Larry Bird, if they ever brought it back.
@Futureshark Absolutely my jam on the C64. And I had the EPYX fast load cartridge!
@Notzdarva I thought they did a pretty good job on the Top Gear and Breakers collections.
To anyone looking for a quality Olympics game pick up the PS1 Classic of International Track and Field.
@rvk5150 This is exactly what I thought when I saw this.
@Futureshark I'd love for a team like Digital Eclipse do an Epyx Games collection which could compile every console's versions of each release!
Cool to see some Accolade games but I mean this is niche of a chance/nostalgia to sell to people especially old sports games of this type compared to others people may or may not care about.
I think other Accolade products would have been a better bet.
