Re: Deus Ex, Guardians of the Galaxy Writer to Lead Narrative on the Next Mass Effect

Blackjay

@Bismarck admittedly that approach can get grating but for others it seems to be part of the charm. For me personally I felt the game was fun for what it was worth even though it wasn’t perfect and better experiences are available. You didn’t answer my question as to why your last comment seemed to randomly insinuate that all kid-friendly games are dumbed down though.

Re: Poll: What Was Your Favourite PS5, PS4 Game Shown at State of Play?

Blackjay

Difficult to say since nearly every game here has the potential to be amazing but for now my moneys on SF6, Final Fantasy 16, Stray, Calisto Protocol and Horizon VR. Eternights looks pretty wild though so sleeper hit maybe? On a side note it really speakers volumes that of all the games here Walking dead and No man’s Sky VR received no votes whatsoever.

Re: Poll: Do You Care About PlayStation TV Shows?

Blackjay

To be fair Netflix is hampered by that very issue and they have lost subscribers (for other reason besides insufficient quality control of course but still) and AMC seems bent on milking Walking Dead for as long as possible.

Re: Poll: Do You Care About PlayStation TV Shows?

@PegasusActual93 Interesting. Though in that circumstance one does wonder why they couldn’t have made an exception with thrones once the cracks started showing unless they clause meant they couldn’t. Not that I had that big of an attachment to thrones at the time of it heyday, I mainly speak in regards to the experience of others who took it hard. I suppose at the time I wasn’t used to tv being obsessed with and consumed in they way GOT did it.
Westworld I didn’t see enough to form a concrete opinion of its quality so I largely infer what it’s like from what others have said.

To cap it all how do you feel HBO’s quality control compares to other networks and services for comparisons sake?

Re: Poll: Do You Care About PlayStation TV Shows?

@MisterMistArcane certainly raised the bar in terms of game adaptations can look like, plus animation might be an option for whoever’s doing doing the horizon project if the costs of achieving it in live-action become too high.

Re: Poll: Do You Care About PlayStation TV Shows?

Blackjay

@BReal Personally I couldn’t really get past the premier episodes. Setup was too exposition heavy and confusing with more than couple questionable aesthetic decisions. Plus it isn’t really a game adaption as it is a book one, same as the games, the confusion stemming from the fact the latter are more well-know.

Re: Poll: Do You Care About PlayStation TV Shows?

After the divisive reactions to the Halo show, I think Sony really needs to think about how to translate these games in manner that preserves their core essence while making them workable in the non-interactive world of television and in the hands of people with a significant understanding of the games themselves.

Re: Outriders Has so Far Failed to Turn a Profit for Square Enix

Blackjay

@WallyWest well I’ve kinda stated my feelings on the game in my other replies as would just be repeating myself at the time but to reiterate, I found the game to just be lazy, obnoxious, unpolished and derivative of better things with little if any unique flairs of its own. Feels like the developers did the bare minimum and then left it at that.

Re: Horizon Forbidden West Patch 1.13 Out Now, Here Are All Patch Notes

Blackjay

Great to see Horizon doing well. Admittedly I’ve got a soft spot for it myself but kinda felt ashamed of that because of all the naysaying from others saying it’s no Elden Ring. It doesn’t help that certain high profile gamer YouTubers like Dunkey have little love for it for one reason or another. I mean it’s not like the game hasn’t got flaws but I wouldn’t say it was irredeemable.

Re: Outriders Has so Far Failed to Turn a Profit for Square Enix

Blackjay

@frankmcma @frankmcma what do you even see in it? All I got out of it was boring level design, bad storytelling, so-so shooting and graphics that felt 20 years out of date made worse by the mucky colour palate that was being used. The borderlands comparisons didn’t help and even that franchise had a bit more going on.

Re: Poll: What's Your PS5, PS4 Game of the Year So Far?

Blackjay

@dark_knightmare2 At the time there was alot of naysaying about the game one specific sites i.e. metro to the point I was kinda put off from continuing with it. It didn’t help that many felt that the open worlds design was inferior to the one Elden Ring had which was further accentuated by the latter coming out a week after the former. I am considering going back to it when I can.

Re: Poll: What's Your PS5, PS4 Game of the Year So Far?

Blackjay

@SAMTYLER1974 A lot of people really had problems with its open world design though, said it was too derivative and all. Plus the were complaints that characters were uninteresting with Aloy’s single-madness towards her goals being particularly scrutinised.

Re: New Mass Effect 'Now Early in Development', BioWare Confirms

Blackjay

@Pat_trick I’ve read somewhere that designers from the OT have returned for this one, even if Casey Hudson has long since left to form his own team, who’s first project incidentally looks similar to ME based on initial concept art. The one tidbit of hope is that it will use Unreal (the newest one) like the the OT and not the hated Forstbite Engine which gave BioWare so much grief during Andromeda and Anthem’s development.

Re: The Witcher 3 Sales Top 40 Million, Cyberpunk 2077 Passes 18 Million

Blackjay

Only played a small fraction of the Switch version of Witcher 3 (may wait for PS5 upgrade instead) and have yet to start Cyberpunk, mostly cause of lack of time and being put out by the whole controversy of the latters launch. Still the situation appears to have settled now even if the memory’s won’t fully fade.

Re: Horizon Forbidden West Update 1.07 Is Available Now, Here Are the Patch Notes

Blackjay

I was initially supportive of horizon at the time of ‘Zero Dawn’. However with all the negative word of mouth I’m hearing from the second game I’ve been question wether or not I ( and by extension Sony and Gurreila) have been wasting time with this very series. Sure it’s polished to a tee but the setting and characters are apparently boring as hell. Even Aloy herself feels less like a noble saviour and more of an aloof antisocial vacuum. And then there’s taking into account the maps design is too by the numbers when gaming has provided more varied alternatives both in the past and recently.

I dunno the whole discourse around the game has just given me a crisis of confidence lately.
