@FuriousMachine haha, you have a good solid collection already, at least 😁 but that's how they get you, I guess! Releasing all these things that you want all the time, how dare they?!

I'm definitely going to try and not get too wrapped up in the 'hobby' and keep it to very specific themes. But I still want that trollolo, dammit!

When it seems you're out of luck.

@Ravix Is the troll still available or is it only "available" from collectors who'll charge through the nose for it?

FuriousMachine

Ravix

@FuriousMachine Last I checked it is just listed as pre order on some random sites, but some of those pre order dates were in the past anyway, so not up to date information.

I prefer when shops are just shops and sell stock or list genuine order dates πŸ˜…

@Ravix Absolutely! Maybe they'll bring out some cool stuff when TW4 rolls around, or maybe even relaunch some olde faves. Fingers crossed for you, mate

Stereotype tag upcoming @FuriousMachine but, as I've been getting stuck in to The Last Kingdom Series and it's at the front of my mind, and my interest in Celtic, Medieval, Viking, Japanese historical life and the related games, shows, movies etc that feature these things overlap quite nicely with the kind of tat, collectibles and even antiques I suppose this thread focuses on, I thought I'd ask, as you are our most revered resident Scandinavian (apologies to any others i'm not aware of) if you have any knowledge of any Scandinavian jewellers that make historical style pieces, or modern pieces that follow classical trends. As it hit me that I'd quite like an Arm ring to help along my collection (not to swear an oath on, as I haven't watched the show Vikings, but that seemed to pop up as being a bit of an overused trope during my initial search πŸ˜…) because I think Jewellery is quite a nice niche for small scale collecting. I just had no luck finding anything that wasn't either related to the Vikings show, or a bit trite or gimmicky in my initial search, and I doubt it's something UK jewellers will actually make. Maybe some obscure Celtic jewellers would, but I thought I'd go straight to the Scandinavian side of things in case any of the known stores over there would make that kind of thing frequently enough for it to be available for shipping πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

I've actually just remembered celticwebmerchant so that could be one avenue to explore, but still, interested in legit Scandinavian jewellers.

@Ryu_Niiyama no, no, you are but a true master! I wasn't expecting such a detailed breakdown, but that is actually a really epic 'mind-tour' πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ haha. I've always wanted to be that big of a nerd (? I guess, if it needs to be labelled for language reasons) but I don't think I have the energy or dedication 😁 It has impressed me, for sure though. Are there any pictures on this thread anywhere of some of your collection? (I've migrated the chat to here for ease)

@Ravix Unfortunately, I do not know of any specialised jewellers dealing with this sort of thing, but I was in the market for some Celtic/Viking beard rings a while back and came across a couple of sites that may have what you're looking for. If memory serves, they were mainly LARPing sites, but at least one of them had quite an expansive selection.
The bookmarks to those sites reside on my work pc and the remoting isn't working right now, for some reason, so I will try to remember checking it out over the weekend and get back to you.
So, stereotypical or not, I guess I wasn't the completely wrong person to ask. That makes me happy

@CrispyMango92 @Shepherd_Tallon I thought maybe I'd fully migrate the chats to here for ease, in fact. I forgot I could have just tagged in the thread itself before πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ

@Shepherd_Tallon I have little to no knowledge of where one would acquire a really nice traditional Katana/Tanto. But I can say TheKnightShop in Wales is probably the easiest place to get a Longsword/Shortsword/Armour etc etc in the UK. I think they are the largest UK supplier so it is reliable enough and they bring together various manufacturers from aroind the world, and it's a decent enough website compared to some barely functioning ones that you do see when it comes to this kind of thing too πŸ˜…

European longswords are definitely less detailed than Asian swords, but I still think they still work great for displays. You can also get swords that are made properly that you can swing around, test cutting is also a niche tailored to, but I'd look into that in much more detail if that was ever a temptation for you, as I do know this much: a 'display only' sword will likely not be able to withstand even it's own weight in force when swung around, and it will probably snap and injure someone if it was ever swung around, so it's always best to mention these things when discussing swords, just in case people ever get tempted to try out a few moves with something very much not designed for that 😬

@FuriousMachine cheers 🫑 haha, I myself almost looked into beard rings/beads a while back, but I always end up growing and shaping a beard I'm pleased with that's probably a little too short for using them, and then I end up shaving it off to start again πŸ˜‚ and I did wonder if they'd end up being a hassle to use too regarding showering, re-threading or whatever.

https://celticwebmerchant.co.uk is actually pretty decent for all kinds of historical bits and bobs and they have lots of traditional wares if you ever want to peruse more of that kind of stuff

@GirlVersusGame I believe that happens occasionally. I assume the thread creator was a British fellow, and I'm not sure if the word is one of universal usage. I believe you are a collector of memorabilia and/or 'stuff' though, picked up on from maybe your tv or movie thread posts, so I dare say you'll fit right in on this thread too 🫑 (even if we aren't all necessarily stabbed and inky)

@Ravix howdy, sorry if that was too much info. I think I thought you were looking for storage ideas but sometimes I forget that at this point my collection is large (well I remember when packing to move like now lmao 🀣) so it’s more than expected. I don’t spend a lot of time on push square and attempted at one point to mimic this thread on Nintendo Life but it was sorta dead. I didn’t really post my collection on that thread (I simply talked about it or posted links to the retail page of what I have.) I keep meaning to take pics but it takes so long to set up and I am the only one in my IRL friend group that has an extensive collection (i still think it’s small but I might be wrong at this point as it is in every room lol including gamer kitchenware. ) so i always forget. I also get paranoid about over sharing on the internet.

Since moving will require me to replace and add some storage furniture maybe I will remember to take pics.

@Ryu_Niiyama I really enjoyed the breakdown, I just put it in a weird way, as usual πŸ˜… It's not too much information, although I may have to re-read it a few times tomorrow to take it all in (😜) and yeah I was initially interested in the display element, but, as there was so many things, and it seemed like quite the impressive collection, it made me think of the 'tat thread' and, as I've just got on the tat train once more with the Ghost of Yotei CE pre order, I thought maybe this thread could get a revival with a few people chatting in the article about their collecting habits anyway 😁

@GirlVersusGame oh yeah, you have all your tat in boxes, that was it πŸ˜› was it you that had the gaming advertising posters and things? That's the tat, memorabilia, collector's editions, merch, bits and bobs.

And I very much respect using genuine wood for shelving, and reclaimed is a bonus. It's also why I kind of want the tat I collect to lean away from the usual plastic stuff, but it can't be avoided a lot of the time, I suppose. At least some stuff can continue to have a use beyond just being binned in future. It's also why I was trying to find a more traditional Japanese mask before committing to the Yotei one, which is probably some kind of plastic 😬

@Ravix I am slowing down on collecting as I sorta have my major fandoms represented… just gotta get the Assassins Creed statues I want, the last of my star trek figures (i have one left on preorder), and small stuff like the ghost of yotei and I am saving for 3 lego sets. After that I am gonna sit down. I should, barring a financial crisis, be at my new place until I finish school (so several years) so my hope is to do a furniture assessment (especially since I will have access to my wood working tools and a workspace) and finally display everything I have. But yeah I may pop in here from time to time after I move because my collection will be front and center as I collect items from storage and put them away. Also the way you worded it wasn’t weird. I think I got excited because nobody asks me about my stuff and then I just kept typing lol.

I am a little miffed as my move wasn’t planned originally (my new neighbors are horrible so I am moving to get away) as my plan was to get my telescope serviced (got a used one for a fantastic price but it needs some love. )

Edit: the GoT mask is a resin so it’s pretty solid. Not a cheap plastic feel at all. I expect the yotei mask to be similar.

@CrispyMango92 ah, yes. Welcome 🫑 I use the site imgur. But the basics of it is to upload ypur photos somewhere that creates either a "bbcode"... or an html link to the picture and you can manually add [img]your photo's html here[ /img] to post it on the site here.

@Ravix Sorry mate, I forgot about this, but then I remembered, so I checked my bookmarks.
It's a Scandinavian site, though I guess Google translate or similar would do the trick. Unfortunately, it looks like they don't ship outside Scandinavia, though, so that sucks (even though they seemingly ship from Germany, so if you find something you simply must have, I guess it could be worth shooting them an email or something. I have ordered from them, so they are on the up-and-up)
Anyway, here's the site: https://viking-larp.com/

Ravix

@FuriousMachine cheers 🍻 it does seem it is a fairly similar type of shop to https://www.celticwebmerchant.co.uk then
And to a lesser extent https://www.theknightshop.com which is more for arms and armour

During KCD 2's release I found https://www.wulflund.com but the shipping to the UK requires a biiiiig spend for brexit based reasons πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ they have some lovely tat and a lot of period gear, art and crafts, though.

@HallowMoonshadow I have no idea what that is, but I kind of love it πŸ˜…

@GirlVersusGame Thank you and ohh, that sounds pretty good actually. I'll have to try that out sometime! But here's most of my collection! I have some other things but they're kind of spread out in other places. When I get a house, I'll have to get more cabinets.
