@FuriousMachine oh no, I hate dust but also dont want to break anything either πŸ˜… and it is a losing battle as it is without a load of tat to clean (yet) Compressed air maybe a slight solution, never really thought of that for regular cleaning, I know techies love it for tech related cleaning.

Btw, you've got a decent amount of DarkHorse stuff, right? How are they for restocking stuff, as it seems everything is sold out. I was going to keep my eye on a TW3 Rock Troll, but pretty much everything TW3 is out of stock πŸ˜ͺ

Ah, yes I shall tag in @bearseatbeats for this one

@Ravix I'm terrible at housekeeping, so things tend to get a bit dusty at times. So that shelf did not help things, but this way I can sort of not be bothered by it for a month or two at a time And using a Swiffer-type duster is fairly safe if you're careful; mine only met with their accidents because I was being sloppy and in a hurry to be done with it. With the air-blowing routine, I'm forced to be more focused and a bit particular about it.

Unfortunately, Garrus was my first Dark Horse order, so I don't have much experience from them. The other ME statues are from Bioware Gear, and they seem to be one-and-done with their stock. The Marvel statues are Sideshow. So, sorry, can't help you there. Maybe @BearsEatBeets has some insight?

@FuriousMachine ah, I like to think I'm fairly good at cleaning, but I'm probably not good enough when it comes to busy or awkward areas. So I'm probably a fool to myself for deciding to board the 'tat' train.

The soft furnishings, carpets, curtains and the like make enough dust which is just about manageable on flat surfaces without any clutter, so adding an area that will trap all of that dust in their ridiculous crevices is probably quite a bad idea.

Yeah, I've tagged @bearseatbeats into my dark horse question now. And from that I can go on to enabling them to pull the trigger on their gaming room too, but with a few simple tips thrown in πŸ˜… I do like encouraging people to make good (bad) decisions 😁

Tip 1, if you do make the gaming room, don't fill it with soft furnishings, don't even have curtains, a good blind will do, have hard floors of some kind, and seating that isn't plush in any way, not even a cushion or throw. Because dust is incredibly annoying πŸ’€

Come to think of it I'd better give my consoles a good hoover out this weekend, if I can be bothered, too πŸ˜πŸ˜…

@Ravix I didn't get your tags as you spelled beets wrong but thankfully @FuriousMachine spelt it right😁.
As for Dark Horse stuff, I'm pretty sure I've never actually purchased directly from them so it is hard to say. Not sure where you are but as I'm UK based I ordered a lot of my stuff from these sites

https://www.moviefigures.co.uk
https://www.collectiblesdirect.co.uk

plus I think I got some from Amazon. I have a few statues from Sideshow but it is was always tricky figuring how much the import tax was going to be so I liked knowing exactly what I was going to pay from these sites.
I've actually got the Rock Troll and Werewolf bookmarked in my favourites just in case I ever return to collecting more and they still have pre-orders open on the first site. I've just seen they are doing Imlerith and Vesemir now too.

Hope that's of some help.

@BearsEatBeets bears eat beats by dre πŸ˜…

Cheers. Yes, UK too, so I will check those sites out. As i'm new to this I've just been doing the occasional, not so concrete browse via Google, but hadn't seen those sites before, I don't think. All I was getting come up was s*** like zavvi most of the time haha.

Did I consult you on gaming Swords yet? Is that something that's made it into your tat collection? I need to get back looking for some of those πŸ˜…

@Ravix There was a short period when I 'glanced' at some replica swords (GoT/LotR) but I never bit the bullet and actually got one. It's a little surprising considering I enjoy watching the making of knives/swords on Youtube and the program Forged in Fire. Is there a specific sword your looking to get?

@BearsEatBeets probably either something from The Witcher or Kingdom Come Deliverance, or both. There's some that are cosplay/larping style, so a softer foam material with fibreglass, but they do have a look about them, and then some that you can get that are dulled metal blades, that I've seen, cant find the links to the ones I was looking at though.

This was one of the larping examples:

@Ravix When you mentioned foam cosplay/larping style I must admit the mental picture I formed didn't match what I saw from the link. They look pretty impressive. Probably less complicated than real metal too.

Tat levels are rising! Tat be praised. I'm feeling quite tatty.

@FuriousMachine yeeeah. And some 'on theme' stuff basically that relates to KCD and my general love of history, swords, etc. I expect at some point I'll add some Witcher stuff, but I'm still sulking I couldn't get the TW3 Troll figure to kick off my tat creation 😭 so I didn't look for anything else witcher related yet

And as for lord of the rings tat I'm sticking to just rings for the moment, including a new Jens Hansen (the company that created the actual one ring) which is unbelievably awesome, and comfortable to wear. I'd seriously recommend them to anyone who likes to waste money on geek stuff, which, as this is the tat thread, is everyone here 😁

@Ravix It's a beautiful collection, for sure
I've cut way back on these things until I get my housing situation settled, so much so that I've skipped the lates Mass Effect releases from Dark Horse (I really want that Legion figure, though). It really hurts to the bone missing out on these things...damn you, unstable economy!

FuriousMachine

Ravix

@FuriousMachine haha, you have a good solid collection already, at least 😁 but that's how they get you, I guess! Releasing all these things that you want all the time, how dare they?!

I'm definitely going to try and not get too wrapped up in the 'hobby' and keep it to very specific themes. But I still want that trollolo, dammit!

@Ravix Is the troll still available or is it only "available" from collectors who'll charge through the nose for it?

FuriousMachine

Ravix

@FuriousMachine Last I checked it is just listed as pre order on some random sites, but some of those pre order dates were in the past anyway, so not up to date information.

I prefer when shops are just shops and sell stock or list genuine order dates πŸ˜…

@Ravix Absolutely! Maybe they'll bring out some cool stuff when TW4 rolls around, or maybe even relaunch some olde faves. Fingers crossed for you, mate

Stereotype tag upcoming @FuriousMachine but, as I've been getting stuck in to The Last Kingdom Series and it's at the front of my mind, and my interest in Celtic, Medieval, Viking, Japanese historical life and the related games, shows, movies etc that feature these things overlap quite nicely with the kind of tat, collectibles and even antiques I suppose this thread focuses on, I thought I'd ask, as you are our most revered resident Scandinavian (apologies to any others i'm not aware of) if you have any knowledge of any Scandinavian jewellers that make historical style pieces, or modern pieces that follow classical trends. As it hit me that I'd quite like an Arm ring to help along my collection (not to swear an oath on, as I haven't watched the show Vikings, but that seemed to pop up as being a bit of an overused trope during my initial search πŸ˜…) because I think Jewellery is quite a nice niche for small scale collecting. I just had no luck finding anything that wasn't either related to the Vikings show, or a bit trite or gimmicky in my initial search, and I doubt it's something UK jewellers will actually make. Maybe some obscure Celtic jewellers would, but I thought I'd go straight to the Scandinavian side of things in case any of the known stores over there would make that kind of thing frequently enough for it to be available for shipping πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

I've actually just remembered celticwebmerchant so that could be one avenue to explore, but still, interested in legit Scandinavian jewellers.

@Ryu_Niiyama no, no, you are but a true master! I wasn't expecting such a detailed breakdown, but that is actually a really epic 'mind-tour' πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ haha. I've always wanted to be that big of a nerd (? I guess, if it needs to be labelled for language reasons) but I don't think I have the energy or dedication 😁 It has impressed me, for sure though. Are there any pictures on this thread anywhere of some of your collection? (I've migrated the chat to here for ease)

@Ravix Unfortunately, I do not know of any specialised jewellers dealing with this sort of thing, but I was in the market for some Celtic/Viking beard rings a while back and came across a couple of sites that may have what you're looking for. If memory serves, they were mainly LARPing sites, but at least one of them had quite an expansive selection.
The bookmarks to those sites reside on my work pc and the remoting isn't working right now, for some reason, so I will try to remember checking it out over the weekend and get back to you.
So, stereotypical or not, I guess I wasn't the completely wrong person to ask. That makes me happy

@CrispyMango92 @Shepherd_Tallon I thought maybe I'd fully migrate the chats to here for ease, in fact. I forgot I could have just tagged in the thread itself before πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ

@Shepherd_Tallon I have little to no knowledge of where one would acquire a really nice traditional Katana/Tanto. But I can say TheKnightShop in Wales is probably the easiest place to get a Longsword/Shortsword/Armour etc etc in the UK. I think they are the largest UK supplier so it is reliable enough and they bring together various manufacturers from aroind the world, and it's a decent enough website compared to some barely functioning ones that you do see when it comes to this kind of thing too πŸ˜…

European longswords are definitely less detailed than Asian swords, but I still think they still work great for displays. You can also get swords that are made properly that you can swing around, test cutting is also a niche tailored to, but I'd look into that in much more detail if that was ever a temptation for you, as I do know this much: a 'display only' sword will likely not be able to withstand even it's own weight in force when swung around, and it will probably snap and injure someone if it was ever swung around, so it's always best to mention these things when discussing swords, just in case people ever get tempted to try out a few moves with something very much not designed for that 😬

When it seems you're out of luck.
