@Oram77 - Thanks, filled it out earlier, interesting to see if anything is done with this.

So I just finished my first playthrough, and……I’m not sure how I feel tbh. The game was good, no doubts about that, but I feel……like it could’ve done more? Maybe I was wrong to see this as the final game for these characters, but then again, there’s enough here to still see the game in that way (especially with how the game ended). I’ll let it sit for a day or so, maybe do another playthrough, but I dunno, atm, I’m not feeling as satisfied as I thought I would.
It’s interesting @BearsEatBeets to see your completion time given you finished almost three days before me, because I only took 12 hours, 42 minutes for my playthrough (and I apparently missed some files, so I probably should’ve played longer).

So in the end, how was the game structured? We had a few short intro sections with the two characters, then one main section for Grace intercut with a couple of short Leon bits, then one big Leon section (notably not intercut with short Grace sections) and a couple more short bits with each character at the end. Overall, I’d say the claim that the two characters had roughly equal playtime is broadly correct, though the lack of any Grace sections during Leon’s roam around Racoon City means he ends up with a bit more.

How was the experience/how does it stack up to the rest of the series? First off, the care center is the best part of the game, hands down. It’s classic Resident Evil with modern flourishes like VII was, but given a more traditional setting. The only downside is that it ends up bit abruptly and once it does, that’s it, we’re on to the other side of the experience. That other bit was fun, for sure (especially compared to stuff like Resi 6) but I don’t see it sticking in the mind for long.
Speaking of, I’m also not sure about replayability. With how the game is designed, I’m not sure how enticing it’ll be to play through the entire game from beginning to end. But again, I’ll give it some time to see how things go.

I’m also hoping we get some dlc content in the future to add some extra modes to flesh out the game’s content. Maybe something featuring some of the other characters that, for whatever reason, weren’t featured in the main story?

So overall, a good experience, just one that had me wishing for more. Probably a solid 8/10, for now.

@FullMetalWesker The was a great read, thank you for sharing your thoughts I know there is quite abit of discourse around the ending at the moment (people feel the same way as you slightly underwhelmed)

Perosnally I loved the ending even got a bit emotional at one piont which is unlike me 🙈🤣. But I can't lie I also felt like I wanted more while the credits were rolling, but that to me is a sign of a great video game. however while Nemesis returning was awesome in the moment, looking back it does feel very shoe horned in and also was extremely easy, even on insanity[/spolier]
I don't say this lightly but the care centre in one the best locations Capcom have ever made! the atmosphere is honestly stellar. I love the whole concept of zombies having remnants of who they were before [spoile] especially the singer.

Yeah I also thought both Leon and Grace had equal share in the game time (suppose it all depends on how cautious you play as Grace), speaking of who, I love Grace she is such a great new character and her voice actress Angela Sant'Albano was absolutely outstanding and already is my pick for voice acting award! RE9 Leon is probably my second favourite version of him (only losing to RE4og) the man just aura farmed the whole game lol I really liked the RPD section thought it was done very tastefully, and the Mr X fight after was great

I've actually replayed the game llike 4 times now (mostly because of the challages for getting platinum) and it was fun trying out the different weapons each time or killing everyone in the care centre as Grace. So regarding DLC according to rumours there is already DLC in very late into development which hopefully means it could come out sooner rather then later, on a perosnal level I hope RE9 gets as much DLC as 7 did as I think this one of the best RE games (def in the top 5) and deserves a lot more content going forward overall 9.5/10 for me.

@McSavage You’re not alone in your love for ‘Village’, which I thought was chock full of incredibly memorable moments - as a RE should be - while also adding significantly to the overall RE story. It was a great entry and has a unique identity. I didn’t realize it was negatively received within the fan base.

I've finished my forth run on Insanity today so I got the plat and will leave it in my collection for now. I can see me playing it again sometime in the future, maybe trying some of the different weapons I unlocked with all the CP.

The Insanity mode is quite cheeky at times with it's subtle changes. The section where you cover Grace with a rifle really took me by surprise and gave me I think my only death as Leon. They sneakily throw in extra enemies in new places and do it so cleverly spaced out that it catches you out when you have done runs before and think you are in a safe spot.

Other thoughts about the game (only read if finished the game).

Overall I loved the game but the low points for me were the following.
Leon's section in outer Raccoon City could have been a bit shorter, maybe without the bit with the mortars which was quite annoying the first time round. I loved the fallen building bit though, especially the bit with the glass.
The motorbike section is the kind of thing that really drags the series down, trying to do over the top action set pieces. However it is quite very quick and visually impressive so it is easy to let it off.
The section playing as Emily is quite tedious in following playthroughs. I love the survival horror aspect of the series but when it's purely slow moving, learning when to hide and wait it's not very interesting. Thankfully again, it's a very quick section so only is a minor thing.
I think I personally could have had done with a slightly bigger section at RPD as you pass through pretty quick but I might be wrong. Maybe much more there would have felt like retreading 2 too much.
Finally I'm not a fan of the gun fight sections in the ARK. For me that's not what RE is and is a big part of why I loathed 6. But again it is a quick section that doesn't overstay it's welcome.
All this sounds very negative but they are minor dips in an otherwise great addition to the series. They just prevent it from joining the best.

Also who do we think Leon is married to? Did you catch him putting on his ring in the final cutscenes and shown in the concept art?

Roll on a DLC announcement for the 30th anniversary later this month. Maybe even a CV Remake reveal.

@BearsEatBeets Sorry was meant to reply to your post earlier my bad. After playing through multiple times at this point, I can safely Grace's section in the care centre in some of the best survival horror elements the franchise has ever been (even more so on insanity difficulty).
Leon's Raccoon city section was good and yeah the mortar tower was a questionable choice and 3 bomb part honestly felt like padding, but agree with the glass floor section is great/tense. I see a lot of people not liking the bike section, for me I thought it was part of the course for a modern RE title (I just think of it as a much better jet ski section for RE4), however the dog enemies in that section I wished they were used in actual parts of the game as their design are super cool!
Yup the Chloe section is straight up a pace killer on replays and should be an option to skip, it's give me boat section vibes from 7 which I can't stand either, really don't capcom keep putting these in the games. I have been observing the discourse around the whole wedding ring plot, I'm personally don't care who but if I had to guess I would say Ada based off their history together, but who knows maybe some DLC will explain things. all I hope for is that Leon is happy with his partner of choice
.

@Oram77

Yeah I have no strong feelings on who it should/could be but find the discourse interesting. A little surprised at the people thinking it's Sherry and is probably the only outcome I would be a little disappointed in. Thought it interesting when people pointed out his gun handle and watch carry the Redfield wing motif. If I had to pick an answer I'd go with Hunnigan making the most character sense.
To be honest, I wouldn't be surprised if Capcom haven't actually decided on anything and put it in the game merely to create all the discussion it's getting.

I only hope if there is DLC that the ending scenes aren't hinting at it involving Chris and his squad going after that Collective elite squad guys. Unfortunately I think Chris Redfield portions of the series have gone hand in hand with worst action heavy games.

Anyone else think we will see any info on the next game or DLC for the anniversary on the 22nd?

Finally Raccoon City begins. I must admit first 2 hours felt weird but all three sections of Grace was awesome and Leon's sniper+church part was epic! Sad for Emily though.

Oram77

@Scottyy I have said this already but I loved every single Grace section, those to me are the closest we will ever get back to the original trilogy, the care centre is one of the best survival horror locations made in recent times. So are just really taking your time or just don't have much time to play?

@Oram77

I %100 agree. Grace sections are just peak RE and what I want from the IP. For your question: Both. I have other things in the week so I only have weekends(and I have preference to play horror stuff when sun goes down) but at the same time I am definetely taking my time with it and it doesn't feel like I'm dragging anything; in fact, I am surprised people complain about the length. 😃

Kraven

I just finished my first playthrough of the game and I loved every second. I thought it was perfectly paced. Playing as Grace really brought out the classic RE feel, while playing as Leon felt peak RE4. Honestly, this might be an all-timer for me; it is just that good.

Kraven

Oram77

Honestly I think the length of the game is perfect within the RE franchise and just survival horror in general. If I had to say if one bit dragged it would be the whole getting the three detonator parts, but it's not that bad on replays

McSavage

Finished my first run over the weekend. I want to preface this by saying I did enjoy the game because I may come across as being quite critical here but I need to explain why I feel the game is good but not great.

Leon's section on the outskirts of Racoon City is visually bland and a bit of a slog. They could have had more varied areas to give it more character. A burnt out school or supermarket perhaps? Most areas in this section just looked like copy / paste grey rubble buildings. Even the zombies in this area were quite generic. The subsequent bike chase is the kind of thing I generally don't like in RE games.

My other main gripe is with the antagonists. Who is this guy Zeno and why should I care? I seen him referred to Temu Wesker and that's exactly what he is and all he seems to say is some variation on 'fulfill your destiny, Grace'. Victor Gideon had potential but they didn't explore that potential enough. I think Capcom need to move away from introducing and killing off antagonists in the same game. We need a big bad that we can build up to an epic conclusion over 2 or 3 games.

So what did I like? I liked the overall plot despite the bit of retconning going on. I think it fits within the RE lore quite well. Grace's sections in the Care Clinic are by far the best part and I really liked the visual design of the place. It would be nice if Grace moved just a little quicker when running though. Leon's combat was good fun once I got the hang of the parrying mechanic.

I'm currently on my second run and I can see myself playing it a couple more times to get that plat.

@McSavage I think that is a fair review though I'm still in shock when you said VIllage is better, again I know that's your opinion (it just took me aback), maybe I am really just too shaded for the whole Winters arc. Don't get wrong Village is still a strong 8/10 game

I have said my peace about Raccoon city but I do think the slog mentality comes from a first play through perspective, since you want to explore the whole area. I don't about you but when Leon got RPD, and once that remix of the og track started up I got a little teary eye as I thought it was done really well

Zeno is a tough one to dicuss, clearly he is a clone of Wesker (which is one of the main themes of the game) but he really was clueless for the whole game, he just gas lit himself and Grace into thinking some was true when it wasn't. Gideon was perfect to be honest, the voice actor absolutely killed the role, I'm not mad that he only got one game, he has already made an inpact on the RE community from what I seen, which is a sign of good writing

WTF!?? Raccoon City section is the next evolution of the series probably. Like I said, Grace parts would be my preference but Leon's action is just Sony 1st Party caliber of stuff!

New survival-horror IP. One can dream...

Miserydhala

So how long would you say the game actually is, if it's only 12 to 13 hrs I think I'll be leaving it till it's cheaper as I expect a little bit more for my money also could someone please tell me what is happening with Ray Tracing in the game, Digital Foundry did a piece on it just having been turned off and now the game supposedly looks significantly worse because of this.

Miserydhala

Oram77

@Miserydhala Honestly don't the timer at the end of the game fool you, that only counts in-game time, here is some useful stats about the game:

I have been playing RE9 on the Pro and I can't fault it in anyway (seriously I can't, PSSR 2.0 is no joke) so not sure about any problems with Ray tracing, overall I definitely think RE9 is worth the money, but if you're still on the fence then maybe wait for when the story DLC/gold edition comes out, hope this helps
