Update []: Well, that was nowhere near as close as I thought it might have been.

As it turns out, you lot really like the new James Bond game. The votes are in, and 007 First Light is officially our Game of the Month for May 2026.

IO Interactive's action-stealth adventure won the poll by a landslide, crushing the competition.

Granted, May wasn't an especially busy month for new releases, but I get the feeling that First Light would have still been incredibly hard to beat even if it had launched amongst heavier hitters.

Here are the top five PS5 games of May 2026, according to readers of Push Square:

  1. 007 First Light - 644 votes (63%)
  2. LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight - 174 votes (17%)
  3. Mina the Hollower - 88 votes (9%)
  4. Mixtape - 64 votes (6%)
  5. Bubsy 4D - 19 votes (2%)

007 First Light is one of the highest rated releases of the year so far, and so it's no surprise whatsoever to see it be so popular with Game of the Month voters. It's also sold millions of copies, which always helps!

"007 First Light is more or less exactly what I was hoping for," wrote the globetrotting Stephen Tailby. He gave the game a 'great' 8/10 in his 007 First Light PS5 review.

"It really shines in its sandbox missions, but it weaves these together with its more linear moments in a seamless, cinematic way."

Congratulations, Bond — another successful mission!

Original Story: You'll have to forgive me for being a little late with this Game of the Month poll for May 2026 — it was all down to those pesky summer gaming events, leaving no room for such a debate.

But now that the excitement is over, it's time to look back on the month of May and ask ourselves... which PS5 release deserves to be crowned Game of the Month? As always, only you can decide.

May wasn't what I would call stacked, but it did have a couple of heavy hitters in the form of 007 First Light and LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight — and those two blockbusters (pun mostly intended) were flanked by some really highly rated, smaller releases.

Both Mixtape and Mina the Hollower were met with rave reviews, and they couldn't be much further away from each other in terms of gameplay and design.

So again, it wasn't the most packed month, but the quality was certainly clear for all to see. And so I'm thinking this poll will be rather interesting...
