Thought I’d copy and paste my comment from the Spiderman PS5 debacle article to here where there is still some chatter about cross-gen games. Hope that’s alright!
I know it sounds like a lot of work has gone into it, but looking around at other releases and upgrades that are free, it really isn’t anything special! Some Xbox releases are getting substantial free upgrades, Cyberpunk and the Witcher will be getting them, many cross gen games are also getting upgrades very close in calibre to this.
I just think this is poor across the board from Sony. And when they announce the paid remasters for TLOU 2 etc, there will be uproar. The reason I’m assuming there’ll be paid upgrades is due to this Spiderman release. These upgrades are what we expect from games being patched for a next gen. Sonys set a precedent with this, if they don’t stay consistent more questions will be asked of this Spiderman release.
@TheFrenchiestFry
Haha
Dont start this one. There is a new FUD bs story about PS5 every hour now 😄
The crowd, accepting this immediately, assumed the anti-Eurasian posters and banners everywhere were the result of acts of sabotage by agents of Goldstein and ripped them from the walls.
@Kidfried They'd be incredibly stupid and tone deaf to release a paid upgrade for PS4 games that released this year at full price to begin with
I was already a little uneasy about a two year old PS4 game going that route but at least Spider-Man on PS4 dropped in price before this remaster was announced

@LieutenantFatman I mean, if don’t don’t mind paying for some minor upgrades to a game whilst competitors are offering their players free upgrades, that’s on you. I’d like the best deal possible, personally.
@Kidfried Pre-orders for destruction all stars aren't gonna sell out lol. The console might be okay for the moment, but being silent on launch titles that don't have the weight and instant hype of Demon's Souls is a terrible idea that will affect sales for each title. I really wonder what is going on inside of Sony with these things and how they figure what will be a good idea. It's amazing how incompetent people who get such high-up positions can be.
@Jaz007 I think it is more to do with the pandemic and how difficult it is to get these things out. It is not like we have had loads of gameplay and deep dives on any games for Xbox (as far as I know)so it is the same for them too.
Life is more fun when you help people succeed, instead of wishing them to fail.
Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.
@STLamy
I just think it's incredibly obnoxious entitlement to demand companies give up improved versions of their products for free. If they want to charge for the additional time and work they've put into something, it's their right to do so. They shouldn't have to justify that.
If the original version had been broken or felt unfinished, that would of course be different.
@LieutenantFatman I’m not demanding it. I’m stating that many releases are getting free upgrades, including many COMPETITOR releases. The precedent has been set. It looks bad for Sony if they decide to charge across the board.
Where did I demand free upgrades? Charge for it all you want, but if you can’t see the disconnect compared to the wider industry here that’s on you. There’ll be articles upon articles, and they’ve already started. On this very site for instance!
@LieutenantFatman Yeah, I agree with @STLamy, it’s not that we’re demanding free upgrades, it’s just a bad look. Sony are getting decimated in the marketing war because of a buildup of these decisions undermining the perceived value of PS5.
