Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls Open Beta: Start Times, How to Play, and What's Included

My assumption was that Danger, Magik, Wolverine, Black Panther, Peni Parker and Magneto would also be playable, as they were already included in the offline demos at various events - but I guess the blog post wasn't clear on that

I've never been this excited for a fighting game that is not by CAPCOM...

Knowing full well I will get my ass kicked, I still can't wait to play this game

I suppose I outta give it a whirl, then. I was pretty excited when it was announced, but that excitement has just dwindled to next to nothing at this point.

Nothing I've seen has really convinced me I'd prefer this to Mv.C3, FighterZ, or Guilty Gear (or any of the other modern ArkSys games). I reckon this beta is the game's only real chance to sell me.

I used to love games like this, but I struggle with my hand since a motorcycle accident. Still, really excited by it though, so if anyone comes across a Buttered Crumpet on PSN, know you’ve got an easy win ahead of you!

It feels like they put a bunch of words in a hat and just picked the first 4 that came out for the name. I fear this game won't last long.

I’ll give the beta a shot. I tend to enjoy Arc’s games.

@RoomWithaMoose I feel it needs to have another offline mode to get me excited I know there is story , but is there any others , I I remember sf alpha 2 home console version had. Level up system ( you don't get with the latest collections ) were your character could unlock air blocks etc .

@Voltan There is no information released yet, so the author is just guessing based on the first closed beta, but I feel they will include every character, besides Deadpool and loki.

@RoomWithaMoose It's quite fun and manageable even for a non fighting game specialist.

@rachetmarvel Deadpool, Loki, Carnage and Hulk (these have neither been in any of the demos yet or mentioned in the context of the beta)
There is a PS Blog post saying Blade will be included
It doesn't mention any other characters but, as I said, several of them were included in the offline demos already so I would be surprised if they weren't here

Sounds like I was right about the characters - everyone who was playable in the offline demos is in the open beta (so only Hulk, Goblin, Carnage, Deadpool and Loki are missing)

Man, I really wish this was Marvel Tekken and not Tokon. This looks like a drag.

I love how this looks but I just don't have the skill to play these more complicated/technical fighters. The amount going on gives me a sensory overload, it's something I love to look at, can appreciate how spectacular the action is and marvel over the fantastic art style, but i'll never have the coordination to follow the action.

@Titntin @ButteredCrumpet Fellow "quite sh*t at fighting games" person here. We should start a Quite Sh*t at Fighting Games group so we can always play evenly matched games 🤣

@Shirtpotatoes75 I know what you mean. I'm visually impaired so have never been able to get good at genres as demanding and technical as fighting games. I'll be giving the open beta a go just to see what's it's all about but I don't expect to be any good.

Can you stream on portal or do only

This thing looks like indie generic title.

@Leinad7 Proving to be the king of bad takes aren't you lately. Its a Marvel fighting game made by Arc its going to sell very well, the FGC is already pretty damn soaked right now in hype for it.

@Toot1st Nah fighting games don't sell well on Xbox.

Music in the trailer was pretty badass. Arcsys rule in that department for fighters. Here's hoping there's something catchy like "bull*hit crazy" or MvC2's "Take you for a ride".

@Toot1st The numbers. Sales for fighting sames on Xbox are never that great with games like Killer Instinct not having a huge Xbox playerbase, the fighting game scene on PS though is extremely high. Don't know Switch numbers but giving how awkward fighting games are to play on it i can't imagine its super great.

@DennisReynolds again do you have any sales data to back that up? Killer instinct came out in 2013 it's 13 years old. Mortal Kombat 11 was in the top most played on Xbox for quite a while. Fighting games in general I pretty niche and Switch 2 and Xbox sales are over 50 million that's a lot of potential customers restricted your audience is a bad idea

@Toot1st Doing multiple google searches the AI thing keeps saying Xbox is the lowest for numbers out of PC, PS5, Switch 2 and Xbox. In fact it seems the Xbox side see's a massive drop off after launch.

Anyway why would Sony care about supporting Xbox?

Might give this a go, although I don't hold much hope of my reactions being as quick as they were back in 1996, when I imported SF Zero 2 on the Saturn.

I appreciate times have moved on for my near 51 year old arse, but I do miss the old arcade modes, they were pretty well balanced and allowed me to learn/improve in my own time, before venturing to the local arcade at the Elephant & Castle and getting my arse handed..

@DennisReynolds they dont but they do care about money and making your live serivce fighting game an option for another 50 million people increases the chances of it keeping healthy

@Toot1st Yeah because 50M Xbox and Switch players are going to play this 🙄 Sony would be lucky if even 500K Xbox players played this, they barely play their own fighting game yet alone others. The FGC is pretty much just PS5 and PC.

Stop with this port begging its cringe. Don't see this energy with Splatoon Raiders.

I don't know if I am casual or not.
I love them, I play them, sometimes win, sometimes get destroyed.
But I love socializing over games and laughing till my belly hurts while gaming and I am ooold too (well 46 young) so let's do that, let's hang on all together and have a good time.

As a very casual fan who only plays fighters offline I enjoyed the limited SP content included in the beta (which only took me an hour to get through). The snappy controls, gorgeous graphics, vast roster and team angle make this a fighter that is going to join Guilty Gear Strive and SF6 in my collection.

@DennisReynolds lol. I could name a couple more Genres that don’t sell well on Xbox any and most lol. This is coming from a guy who plays my Xbox about 80 percent of the time. The rest is on ps5 and portal.Xbox series this gen has only sold right under 40 million consoles compared to Sony right at 95 million. This gen looking worse than last gen. Right at 120 million ps4 to 57 million Xbox ones. No need to put a game like this on Xbox. I’d say switch 2 would sell more of this game

@DennisReynolds port begging? i couldnt care less about this game and i never said they would the same way 90 million PlayStation owners aint going to buy this. its about making your product available to as big as audience it can be which makes or breaks a live service game. And you think 500k players is bad? thats 30 million in sales

Fighters have a proving record of not doing well on Xbox, why do you think so many skip Xbox? Pretty sure Capcom skips them with their collections as well. Its a PS5/PC game its got the audience it needs and wants.
