Insomniac Games has produced a trio of great games based on Marvel's most popular superhero, and it seems the series has become a source of inspiration for other Spider-Man media.
The web-slinging hero is about to hit theatres with Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and its director, Destin Daniel Cretton, has shared how the games have had an impact on the movie.
In a brief interview with Polygon, Cretton says the team "drew inspiration from the video games" alongside previous films based on the character.
Asked directly about the games, he admits he's "not a gamer" but that he has "played the game", as have numerous people working on Brand New Day.
"So a lot of the people in our stunt department loved playing those video games. So they would do screen grabs of their play and bring it in and say like, 'Can we pull this move off?' So that was a great inspiration for things."
The games have a lot going for them, but I think one of their greatest strengths is in the animation work, whether it's combat or web swinging. Insomniac really let loose on that front; Marvel's Spider-Man 1, 2, and Miles Morales are all super fluid.
So it makes sense to me that the stunt team is looking at moves from the game and trying to recreate them for the film.
Tom Holland, who plays Spidey in the movies of course, says the games are "absolutely sensational", so he's clearly a fan too.
Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is also set to receive the Brand New Day suit as a free DLC next week just before the film makes its debut.
