Ubisoft appears to be preparing an updated and enhanced version of PS4 open worlder Ghost Recon: Wildlands, as per a new graphic uploaded to its Xbox Store page.
On the listing for the Definitive Edition, an image highlights a "major update" that's yet to be released or confirmed by the French studio, which talks of 4K and 60 frames-per-second support. It also highlights a new mission being part of the update, and since it's called Last Rites, I assume that's what the extra quest will be called, too.
Here's the graphic in question:

While it didn't really set the world alight critically at launch, Ubisoft offered strong post-launch support to Ghost Recon: Wildlands, which helped to improve overall opinion surrounding the PS4 game in the years after. This updated Definitive Edition already contains all that extra content: two pieces of DLC, a Year 2 Pass, and various customisation packs.
That Year Pass 2 contains the following:
- Splinter Cell Pack
- Weapon, weapon skin, 2 NVG goggles, pair of gloves, 3 camos
- Soldier Equipment Pack
- U100 weapon, JPC vest, military shirt
- Infantry Forces Pack
- ACU shirt, Mayflower APC, covered advanced combat helmet
- Active Duty Pack
- UMP 45, PenCott LN, Blast Face Shield
The title is currently only playable at 30FPS and won't render at 4K, even when played on PS5 in backwards compatibility mode. Therefore, such an update to Ghost Recon: Wildlands would be pretty substantial.

I'm not the most familiar with Ghost Recon, but I enjoyed Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 on PS3, because it felt like a more strategic shooter. Movement was slow, you had to rely on CPU allies to flank enemies, you needed to use gadgets to identify and target specific enemies. It was a very methodical game, you couldn't just go in guns blazing.
To the best of my knowledge, Wildlands is just your typical Ubisoft open world game. Am I wrong in that assessment?
Yes definitely! Breakpoint was an amazing game, but the 30fps on Wildlands means it was a slog. Hopefully they aren’t charging full price for this and it will just be free if you own already.
Oh nice! I chose to do a plat run of Breakpoint because it had a 60fps mode for PS5 so may have to get on this. I’ve got it on my shelf 👌
I'm looking forward to 4K at 60 FPS. I missed out on the game because my computer wasn't powerful enough, and the PS4 port wasn't good enough for me. Now it might work out.
@GamingGod @FinneasGH Hold on a second here. Breakpoint? Have I missed something since launch, because I thought that game was supposed to be terrible.
@FinneasGH I would guess that this will be an update to the PS4 game like ubisoft have done a bunch, rather than a PS5 version. After all, that definitive edition was just released as a PS4 title a couple weeks ago
Let's hope they can add a bit of fun and excitement to the game, instead of walking for 25 mins then shooting 2 NPCs ad infinitum
Only PS4 version up for Definitive edition and it costs 100€.... I own everything but the new stuff and I for sure wont pay that price for a new mission.
AC Ezio Trilogy,3,Watchdogs 2 are my wishlist fingers 🤞
Hopefully it's a nice new no-autopop trophy set too.
If it is I'm all in.
This game with 3 friends in coop is an absolute blast. You can play like idiots, all having a helicopter and tearing around the massive map doing stupid things.
Or play it extremely tactical, taking out some of the hardest bases using stealth and teamwork.
@ShadowRJ It was improved a huge amount since launch, but still accessible if you pick it up now. Although the story is meant to be better in Wildlands, I doubt people are really playing a Ghost Recon game for the storyline.
is it any good as a single player game, without coop?
@ShadowRJ
When it launched it was more like a looter shooter. Every gun had 1000 versions with better stats.
They had an update that made it more like this one. You could buy the gun or find it. Stats could be upgraded by mods.
@GhostOfSparta82K ac liberation, far cry 3, watch dogs 1 and ac rogue. Also nice if they did 60fps for ac black flag and freedom cry too.
I've been asking for this since I got a PS5 and a Series X. I hope they bring back the Predator DLC. I love this game!
Excited for this. I've played through Wildlands several times, but hated Breakpoint due to its convoluted story, lack of AI teammates at launch, and overall bloat.
Excellent news! I played this on PC during lockdown. I no longer game on PC and tried the console version last year as wanted to play again. However, it was rough. Can’t wait to play it again once this releases, it’s such a good game.
@ShadowRJ breakpoint was good I thought buddy. Runs like a dream but not the best graphically. Good tactical gameplay if you so wish
Wildlands was one of the last multiplayer games I played, it was really good with a responsive team that communicated. Then I played it on PC with the real life Mods (it looks incredible) and solo, it felt like an entirely different game. I'll try it again with the update, Breakpoint on the other-hand was a lot like Payday 3. The Developers replaced so many human threats with drones so I stopped playing. The story was all over the place too.
@ShadowRJ If you have a copy try it with the update, it's a really good game even solo. I played The Division with a group and solo too, Wildlands was so much better. It allows for real strategy and planning, it's more like a series called Operation Flashpoint. It pays to plan ahead/use reconnaissance and rewards using your brain. The story is great too.
@ShadowRJ Breakpoint isn't terrible. My girlfriend however is terrible at Breakpoint.
@GirlVersusGame @JohntheRaptor @GamingGod It seems as if Breakpoint has redeemed itself after its rather disasterous launch. Good on the developers for managing to achieve that.
This is a game I always wanted to play. Good to get this upgrade when the time comes!!
I love this game! Had so much coop fun and it is a very good solo game too. Bring it on!!
I'll probably reinstall to try again. I played a fair bit when it came out, but never beat it (the game is MASSIVE). Breakpoint had some fantastic gameplay improvements, especially after all the post-launch updates, but the story and setting were not so great. Bolivia is a much cooler setting, in my opinion.
Also, shout out to the Predator missions.
A 60fps for Watchdogs wood be great too 😊
@ShadowRJ No you're not wrong there. I enjoyed playing on the hardest difficulty and no HUD with my brother. But the map is absolutely massive and no matter how many different biomes you cross, which can add some much needed variety, once you've cleared out a handful of camps, it is just rinse and repeat in the mission structure. Sure you can vary up your playstyles from time time but it's such a long winded game that it can definitely outstay its welcome by the end.
@Yahooligan Yes because you have 3 ai companions you can control which can be a lot of fun or you can tell them to stay and you can go in solo, or you can just let them react however. If you're planning on going for the platinum it can become quite tedious.
Played GR:W entirely in single player mode and had a blast. If it's new to you, this version should be great.
nice, I played through this once on ps4 pro and loved it, wanting to play this again and will definitely now
This better be an upgrade for existing owners because despite how much I adore this game, there's no chance I'm paying $100 for it.
Ubi get alot of hate, but they do seem to care about their old games reaching new hardware. Looking at you rockstar!! Watchdogs 2 next please.
Wildlands is probably my favourite out of the Ghost Recon games. Would be happy to dive back in.
I like wild lands. Calling in rebels was a lot of fun. I can't remember which one I liked better between Wildlands and the sequel. For the right price I'll give it another go.
I’ll be honest, I’m probably getting this. I love a game where I can approach a raised base from any angle and sneak in. I’ve been a fan of this series since the very first when it felt like “Rainbow Six, but outside.” I completely skipped this one though because at the time I thought it was more multiplayer focused. I’m kind of in the mood for something like this, I just hope it’s not toooo bro-y with the whole ICE-centric default bearded bald man with sunglasses and punisher stickers para-military crap. I’m happy to make a non-binary long haired skinny character if there’s a robust character creator 😂
@TheFakulty Far Cry 3 received a 60fps patch back in January, along with Blood Dragon and Primal.
Ubisoft are in my view one of the best developers/publishers out there. Up there with Capcom.
Their games are consistently 8 out of 10 or above, and they’ve provided excellent support for older titles this generation. I'm always happy to buy a map pack or a skin to support them.
They’ve knocked out some banging titles this generation and I spent far more hours in those games, then I have in Sony exclusives.
I also think how many hours of enjoyment I’ve had in dozens of 8/10 or better Ubisoft titles, in the 13 years since Rockstar spat out a GTA.
Let's not even ask where TES6 or Fallout 5 are.
It's quite unjust how some developers poo out nothing at all, or bungling misfires, and yet Ubisoft are the ones who take all the hate.
I used to stream games on Twitch back when this game came out and it had a very strong and dedicated PvP and PvE audience with a tight-knit streaming community around the game. I couldn’t get into it as much as them at the time, but it did have a special sauce to the game that they have not managed to recreate since.
@TheFakulty Far cry 3 has had 60 fps update and i doubt black flag will get one due too resynched.
Revisit? I'm currently half way through another play through. Really like this game.
I can't wait for this. I've been playing Wildlands on the PS5 Pro recently as I missed out on the game initially. Still prefer Breakpoint at the moment due to its 60fps.
So PS4 update like previous titles or native PS5 version? If native i hope the base version is a free upgrade what giving Ubi's track record is very likely. Great game though so i'm excited.
@ShadowRJ Wildlands is pretty tactical and while it has a massive open world its not like a typical Ubi open world.
@ShadowRJ Always online aside the devs fixed every issue with Breakpoint. Gameplay wise its far better then Wildlands but Wildlands has a far better map and open world.
