Bloody hell, that took a while didn't it? Rainbow Skies -- sequel to much loved PlayStation 3, Vita, and PlayStation 4 title Rainbow Moon -- finally has a release date. We first heard about Rainbow Skies all the way back in 2013. Back then, it was set to launch on PS3 and Vita in 2014. Crazy.
Ever since, the game's been in and out of the news cycle. It was scheduled for 2014, 2015, and then 2016 before it went dark. Last year, it was pegged with a tentative 2018 window, and the good news is that the release date has finally stuck.
Rainbow Skies will hit both the PS4, Vita, and PS3 (!!!) next month, on the 26th June in North America, and the 27th June in Europe. Safe to say it's been a loooong time coming.
Offering some explanation, developer Marcus Pukropski writes "Rainbow Skies has been developed by a core team of just five people. To make Rainbow Skies accessible to as many players as possible, we have localized the game into five different languages [...] Furthermore, we wanted to ensure that Rainbow Skies was balanced for a large variety of players. Rainbow Skies features a complex battle rank system, which allows players to scale the difficulty according to their preferences. This led to an unforeseeable amount of testing hours, where we devoted as much time and effort as necessary to ensure everything worked the way we envisioned."
Sounds quite ambitious, doesn't it? What's more, Rainbow Skies will run at 60 frames per second on all three systems, and it'll feature cross-save functionality as well as cross-buy. Nice.

OMFG it's finally really coming out?
I was so looking froward to this game when it was announced in 2013 for 2014. Rainbow Moon was the first turn based game of it's kind I'd ever played and I really liked it. I've commented for literally years on the PS Blog and their FB page constantly asking them when it would be out. But a couple of years ago I finally gave up hope.
Now that it's coming out I'm not sure I care anymore. Well I care, but my backlog is so full of games I really want to play don't see myself ever getting around to this one. Not just too late, years too late.
The first 1 was really good, and I suppose this will be good too, but no time. Trailer does look good.
I need to go back to moon at some point. I remember starting it but getting annoyed that the movement speed in the field was super slow. The trailer for skies still looks a little sluggish in the field.
Sure i will get this to support my vita though. It looks really promising.
I love a good grindathon of an RPG but really didn't enjoy Rainbow Moon! Not for me!
I wonder if the combat will be like moon? Kinda of a strategy rpg? If I remember correctly
Too bad in knee deep into Ni No Kuni 2 atm cause i would really like to play this on Vita/PS4. Was kinda hoping it would be a PS Plus game but oh well. I might get this and play it in 2019. Between the aforementioned Ni no kuni 2, NMS multiplayer in July and Spider-Man and Dragon Quest 11 in September i dobt think i can stomach another rpg this year.
Day one. Been waiting for this forever...
Already have it on order for the ps vita. Feel like a heldhand game to me. Loved the first game.
Love the fact they still release the ps vita. Would have been easy for them to cancel development.
Hope both games come to the switch at some point.
@rjejr Hope you will find some time some day. We have tried to improve pretty much every aspect of Rainbow Moon, while staying close to the roots of the first one.
@ellsworth004 Similar combat but with a lot of improvements and new features.
@Splat Thank you
@eastasiasoft I'd like to play it, looks good, but I really don't see myself ever getting the time. I'm about to buy The Witcher 3 Complete. That might be the only game I play the rest of the year. Maybe I'd find time for FF7 Remaster, but that's about it. And I have about 7 or 8 Kingdom Hearts games to play before KH3, I may not live that long. What a drag it is getting old.
@eastasiasoft Thanks for supporting the Vita .
Rainbow Skies looks great!
I will move away my pile of shame of purchased but not yet played PS4 games and play this day one. Loved Rainbow Moon.
I enjoyed the boss fights in the first game, pretty cool. I hope the story is a bit more interesting in this one.
@rjejr 100% agree with the whole "not caring" thing anymore. This is how i feel about every game. I hate when a game announces a release date (which yes i know Rainbow Skies didn't do that, but im talking about other games as well) and the release date is like a year or two away. Like why announce it?!?! Announce it when the game is less than 6 months away from release date...... they would sell so many more copies. Take Kingdom Hearts 3 for example..... they're suppose to announce the release date at E3. If the release date is for this Fall, i'll be getting it... but if it's for next year or gets delayed, ill end up losing interest in it and not buy it. I know this because it's happened DOZENS of times with other games over the last 10-15 years.
@kyleforrester87 Rainbow skies is 10X better then Moon. I only like Moon but addicted to Skies
@LieutenantFatman They have a proper story in Skies.
