So, that Yakuza 6 demo is starting to appear on the PlayStation Store in various regions. Officially due out on the 27th February (that's tomorrow at the time of writing), you'll be able to carry over your progress from the demo into the full game, which is set to launch on the 17th April.
There's just one small potential problem, though. The demo weighs in at a whopping 37GB.
Yes, you read that right -- 37GB. That's larger than some full retail titles, so you'd best make sure that there's enough free space on your PlayStation 4's hard drive. Yikes.
Will you be giving the demo a go once it's available? Hit that download button in the comments section below.

This has to be the full game, right? Just closed off and obviously not quite fully localised.
I played the Japanese demo but I can't remember the size of it. I wonder if it's different or if it's just the JP demo translated.
Fully uncompressed Kamurocho and crystal clear Japanese audio t-t-t-thanks Sega
@ShogunRok
You’re probably right. Hopefully if you buy the full game there won’t be much to download. I’ve never played the series before so you think that’ll be a problem? I happy to download any demos since I hooked up a 4tb hard drive and have no download restrictions from my provider.
Must be one of these demos when you can continue to play the full game when it is released. That is still a chunky download for a demo.
Ha, I'll just wait for the full game.
@gingerfrog Honestly I think you can jump into any Yakuza game and enjoy it without previous experience, despite what some people say. There is some stuff that'll make more sense/seem more appropriate if you've played past games, but nothing major. You can kind of fill in the blanks (if there are any) and the games generally do a good job of bringing you up to speed.
That said, if you really want to get into Yakuza I'd probably recommend Yakuza 0 over 6 purely because A) it's set right at the very start of everything and B) Yakuza 6 runs on a whole new engine that honestly makes the older games harder to play because it's that much better.
Could always jump over to 6 once you're done with 0, though. It'll be cheaper too!
@gingerfrog Oh and each game tends to have its own individual storyline, so there's no real need to worry about missing huge plot points or anything.
Currently playing Kiwami so you can't believe how excited I am for this demo and the full game
@zazzy they plan to! It's a little sad that we have to wait so long for all of them!
See my situation, I started at Yakuza 4 Ps3, liked it but I wasn't entirely sure what characters where new or not, I wasn't even sure who the protagonist was! Then halfeay through the second character we got Yakuza 5 and I tried the first 10 minutes, I was getting so confused that I didn't play more of both games!
Anyway, when Yakuza 0 came out I spent like 100 hours in it, I loved it and became a serious fan! I'm now playing Kiwami but I really want to play Yakuza 4 and 5 (since I own them) but I can't be bothered to go back to the ps3! Also I really want Yakuza 6 despite not knowing jack sh*t about the middle games!
Anyway it's just a big mess, don't know what to do but will probably play it like this: 0, 1, 6, 2, 4, 5, 3 lol
It will just be like the mass effect Andromeda demo the full game but with most of the game blocked of or a timed demo.
@gingerfrog
Yakuza is one of those series where it has a continuous story but it's so over the top that you'll be confused no matter where you start. I would recommend Yakuza 0 as a starting point if you have a chance though. Not because it's the prequel to the entire series but just because it's a freaking awesome video game.
This game tops my most-wanted list, even ahead of The Last of Us Part II, so I'm downloading the demo, no doubt about it. Added bonus that it lets you carry over progress when the full game releases.
@Etherwinter it was exactly the same size
Yeah.....no, i wont be downloading that. Ill wait for the game instead. This is definitely the full game. They previously indicated that progress carries over into the full game, so i would be very surprised if this was anything but.
The dragon of dojima is nearly here, one final time!!
Blimey.
All that space is for all the "Nani!?" and reactions.
Restricted full game sounds more accurate than demo. But not that catchy.
@zazzy Doubt it! They will most likely pour out Kiwami 3, Kiwami 4 and Kiwami 5 while MAYBE doing Yakuza 7 (I think 6 is the last one but you never know)
@ShogunRok
Thanks for the advice. Think I may jump straight into 6 if I enjoy the demo
@AFCC Yeah, that was my plan as far as route of play. I’m starting with 0 and then prob 1 (Kiwami) then this.
@Th3solution 0 is the perfect start IMO
yeah i'm not going to bother with that one, it's far too big to download on my internet, it would take HOURS and for a full game that's fine but not for a demo
@gingerfrog If you've never played the series before then at least play Yakuza 0 and Yakuza Kiwami. Both are on PS4.
If you have your hands on a PS3, play Yakuza 4 and 5.
The reason being that all the games star the same character(s) and there's continuity (Yakuza 0 being the prequel). And Yakuza 6 is kick started by events that happened in Yakuza 5.
Yakuza 5 has characters introduced in Yakuza 4. Both Yakuza 5 and Yakuza 6 focus on a character that's introduced in Yakuza 1/Kiwami and stays in the series all through Yakuza 6.
You can start with any game, for sure, but you get the most out of the series if you play a lot of the previous games before the newest one in the continuity. Plus going back to older games after playing the newest game with new engine and combat, may feel like a chore.
I'll just wait for the full version to come out.
