Horizon Zero Dawn Frozen Wilds PS4 PlayStation 4 1

While the world anticipates Geoff Keighley’s The Game Awards 2017 this evening, the Push Square forum members have already spoken, declaring Horizon: Zero Dawn to be their Game of the Year. After 250 posts as part of a typically epic thread coordinated by themcnoisy with assistance from KratosMD, Guerrilla Games’ action-heavy role-playing release took top honours by scooping the Platinum gong.

But it was a close run contest, with Persona 5 taking the Gold award and NieR: Automata settling for Silver. Bronze was a three-way tie, with Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, Yakuza 0, and Resident Evil 7: Biohazard duking it out. All incredible games, of course, and equally deserving of their success, so well done to every title.

Elsewhere, publisher of the year went to Sony with the release of Horizon: Zero Dawn, as well as various other noteworthy titles like Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, Nioh, Farpoint, and Everybody’s Golf. SEGA took second place with its retro revival Sonic Mania and the superb Yakuza 0, while Ninja Theory received deserved recognition for its “AAA indie” strategy with the thought-provoking Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice.

And in less optimistic news, Mass Effect: Andromeda was forced to take the walk of shame, as it scooped up the biggest disappointment of the year. You can read through the thread in its entirety through here. Thanks as always to themcnoisy and KratosMD for putting this together, and every community member who visited the forums to participate. And don’t worry if you think our Game of the Year coverage is over, work is already underway on our staff list, and it’ll be going live throughout the Christmas holiday.
