The chaps over at Digital Foundry have put their juggling skills to the test in the latest PlayStation 4 build of Tekken 7, and it would seem that they've come away reasonably impressed. According to the publication, this is the master build of the game, which essentially means that it's all but complete. With that in mind, it's great to hear that the title runs pretty flawlessly in terms of frame rate, supposedly sticking to a constant 60 frames per second.
However, one thing that we're surprised to see is that the game doesn't hit 1080p resolution, instead settling for 900p on Sony's console. According to Digital Foundry, this does give the visuals a slightly softer edge, which is a bit of a shame. Still, it's worth reiterating that this may not be the final version of the release that we'll be playing at launch, so things could be tightened up before the 2nd June. We imagine that it'll benefit from a higher resolution on PS4 Pro, too.
Are you looking forward to Tekken 7? Don't you dare drop a frame in the comments section below.

Tekken is the only fighting game (other than Naruto, if that counts) I enjoy playing. I look forward to playing it; 900p 1080p doesn't make a huge difference to me, since they aren't going for cutting edge graphics any more.
60fps is most important thank you
I've not played a fighting game since PS2 days but the VR mode has me interested.
It better be 1080p on the PS4 Pro. Get rid of dat vaseline.
I have only played Tekken 6 and didn't care for it, but after doing some reading I hear a lot of people say the 6th game is one of the worst entries in the series. I want to give this a try to see if I actually like Tekken.
It doesn't matter. Why? If you're playing a fighting game, you're most likely focused on the two characters on the screen and not if the edges of the rocks in the Dragon's Nest stage are slightly pixelated which by the way is almost impossible to see unless you zoom in to the background.
Besides, there will probably be a PS4 Pro patch that enables 1080p or 4K. Same for Scorpio most likely and PC will have the option in the settings.
TL;DR: Stable framerate > resolution.
For fighters 60fps is very important, but I should think the ps4 pro will get 1080p
Obviously I agree that 60fps is way more important in a fighter, but looking at the graphics, I'm not sure I understand why it's not already 1080p/60fps. There's not a whole lot of fancy effects/processing going on and textures/polygon counts seem quite low. At the very least, I expected 1440p/60fps easy on the Pro. Maybe I'm getting spoiled, but even 1080p is starting to look 'bad' to me, not to mention 900p.
Not 1080p? Is this 2015 or something?
As long as the framerate is good, I don't really care about the resolution.
Resolution is... well, it's not irrelevant, but it's much, much, much less important than a smooth framerate. ESPECIALLY in a fighting game.
Digital Foundry have actually confirmed that Tekken 7 isn't even 900p on PS4 - running at 1536x864 (not 1600x900). On Pro it does indeed run at the full 1920x1080p with a few 'minor' visual enhancements that can dynamically scale to keep the locked 60fps.
I am not criticising the decision to focus on a locked 60fps but it is somewhat surprising that the base PS4 can't manage a higher resolution - its not as if other fighters are under 60fps. I know there are other factors etc but its not as if the game is running at the max visual settings - not that these have a big impact overall. Whether you notice (or care) that the light bloom isn't as good or some textures are scaled is a different matter.
The PS4 Pro, promoted as a '4k' console - even if its a 'Dynamic 4k' console, can't deliver a UHD resolution in this game. Granted a 56% increase in pixel count over the base PS4.
Of course both deliver a higher resolution and visual setting than Xbox One (720p with lower quality visual settings - including no depth of view blurring for example) so there is that.
So does that mean we will see more games, not necessarily first party or 30fps games, dropping in resolution below even 900p and Pro support offering just full HD? I know games like this are important to keep a locked 60fps but I maintain EVERY game should have a 'locked' frame rate - whether its a Fighting game like this, a Shooter or an open world RPG - I still want a locked 30fps or 60fps.
