There's no question that the past couple of months have been kind to PlayStation Plus, with the lineup in September and October really taking a step back towards the series' very best days. But still there's a recurring sentiment that the service needs an overhaul, with the PlayStation 3 and Vita games becoming increasingly less relevant over time.
One idea that we've seen proposed around the web is the addition of PlayStation VR titles to the Instant Game Collection, replacing one of Sony's older platforms with a brand new one. And writing on the PlayStation Blog, it's a prospect that the platform holder has admitted that it's exploring: "We have nothing to share at this point in time, but we are looking into it."
Personally speaking, as someone who intends to purchase a PlayStation VR headset, this is a concept that this author could get behind – but we suspect that those of you less interested in virtual reality will be a bit less generous about it. Either way, even after a couple of great months, it's evident that Sony's subscription model needs a shake-up – but will it be able to please everyone in the process?

I do not mind getting PSVR games but not at the expense of losing support for the older formats. If they did drop other formats then its not unreasonable to expect a years notice and then make changes. Especially if you are only getting PS Plus for the PS3. What happens if you signed up for a year and then they drop the PS3 you have a subscription thats worthless.
A VR plus has to go along with the current two games on the service rather then replacing one because VR games have a limited market.
I agree with the above, VR should not replace an older platform. I'm purchasing VR day one, but would never want to squeeze out these who still are actively using their PS3s and Vitas.
(I still own mine, although I rarely use them)
How about adding a VR title every two or three months? Or run a heavily discounted "VR game of the month" type deal?
Are there enough VR games in development to be able to even contemplate having them as part of the subscription model?
Just add it the normal line up
Oooh, now every month we can complain about pixel-art indies on VR, too!
I'm going to be the jerk here, apparently. I think they should drop the PS3 free offering to one game per month, while adding one PSVR game. This is essentially a new platform and to help it grow, people should be incentivized.
People will collect the "free" PSVR games even if they don't own it yet. Then at some point the scales may tip and they'll decide to get one, at least partially because they already "own" a half dozen games for the platform.
I just want Knack on PSPlus.
@Mega-Gazz +1
Expect tiered subscription options within 18 months.
Because its a new product and the install base will be fairly meager to begin with there is going to be quite an interest in some of the lesser game devs/publishers to maybe get there game on PS Plus. There's a lot of games coming to VR early and plenty will sell terribly, that's almost certain. We'll probably see some VR games pop up sooner than anyone might imagine I suspect.
Anyone crying about support for PS3/Vita, well, Sony should have dumped them on day one of PS4 launch.
As someone who will not be able to get VR at launch but do plan on getting it eventually,I hope they do start including VR games even if they stop including old games.
I'm sure they'll switch things up at some point. Only so much longer they will keep giving Vita and PS3 games on ps+. I'd guess they'll make some changes next year.
PS Plus is already giving mostly useless garbage that I won't play anyway, so why not throw PSVR there too? Would give me extra incentive to cut off the subscription.
rather than giving away free PSVR games on ps+, sony needs to convince as many publishers to make demos as it can. some people experience nausea with VR and it can vary from title to title, so giving people the chance to try out a demo would give them an opportunity to see if they can purchase and play the full game without having to rush to stick their head over a toilet bowl every 10 minutes.
@dryrain Worthless? Thats a bit of hyperbole right there. You still have (potentially) years of free titles to access and play, that require a PS+ subscription. If I were to sit down and play all of the games that I have on PS+ that I like (that I haven't gotten to yet), it would take me well over a year (multiple years, likely) and I play games every day. This is more true of the PS3 where the selection of PS+ titles is quite nice. All of your existing titles won't suddenly melt, and your cloud saves (the whole reason I have subbed to PS+ since day one) would still work until Sony completely abandons the platform.
I think that Sony needs to drop the PS3 support from PS+ immediately, and phase out Vita support over the next year. I would be happy though (as a compromise), with just lowering each of them to a single title (rather than 3), and continue to support them for awhile longer.
@leucocyte Yeah I agree, the last thing we want is someone to buy vr game and get sick from playing it, that's why I'm glad sony is giving ps vr a demo disc containing 18 games.
