Imagine writing a story about the Japanese hardware and software charts on a day when every game under the sun is getting Gamescom 2015 coverage. An atrocious process for all those involved, we're sure that you'll agree, but we do this every week, so we suppose that we're bound by duty.
So, what's happening in Japan? The answer: bugger all. Unless you like Animal Crossing, in which case you're on the wrong website. On the Sony side of things, there are no new releases worth shouting about, and as a result, the software charts are looking pretty dismal for the PlayStation nation. At least the PlayStation 4 sold a whole 1000 more units than during the week prior, though, eh?
Get a load of these exciting figures and more before telling us that this was a waste of time in the comments section below.

Just waiting for all the comments whining about how Japan "sucks" and that they don't like the same games as westerners. Blah blah blah. At least PS4 is selling more units now, As for Xbox... What a joke.
Haha, those Xbone sales are always so horrendous. Not surprised about those AC sales: 3DS is still printing money in Japan.
Good grief those Animal Crossing numbers. That's INSANE.
Well done Nintendo, nothing special for PS4 but it's nice see the Vita ticking along nicely (most underrated console ever)
Fancy one of those new 3ds LL to play majorcas mask and Mario 64 again. As well as the new games like Corpse Party and Animal Crossing (played this on gc). Is it any good?
@JaxonH Nintendo's now had three massive hits in a relatively short space of time on 3DS with Fire Emblem, Yo-Kai Watch, and now Animal Crossing. No denying that it's absolutely killing it on the software side of things. Crazy numbers.
@themcnoisy The 3DS is only as good as the games you can play on it, and it succeeds in that regard. The Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask remakes are big improvements over the N64 versions. Mario 64 DS is okay. The new content is great, but the controls and the camera can be an issue at times. I think it's worth playing, but it would've turned out much better if they had waited to remake it on the 3DS. Animal Crossing is fine if you're into those kinds of games. New Leaf is the best in the series, and the one you see at the top of the sales chart is a spin-off that focuses more on designing homes than living in a town.
You'll get a lot out of the 3DS if you like JRPGs and Nintendo games.
@themcnoisy Remember that 3DS is backwards compatible with very few exceptions, like the games that also needed the GBA slot.
Like @Storytime7 said, it has some great JRPGs, great Nintendo games and other excellent games too. It's definetely worth a shot.
@Storytime7 @Jairo_MC thanks for the advice, my kids have got a 2ds and a standard xl. Is the new 3ds LL a big improvement? Either way I will probably get one.
@themcnoisy The New 3DS is mostly for better performance on a few games, and faster download speeds when buying digital games. Load times are reduced for Super Smash Bros, c-stick support for Majora's Mask 3D and Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, etc. I played Majora's Mask 3D on a regular 3DS, and the lack of camera control wasn't too big a deal because you can just recenter the camera behind Link. Xenoblade Chronicles 3D, and The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth are the only 3DS games that are exclusive to the New 3DS. Xenoblade because it wouldn't run on a regular 3DS, and I think Binding of Isaac is exclusive because the regular 3DS doesn't support the game engine it runs on. The New 3DS is also supposed to have better 3D (face-tracking), but I can't tell you how well it works because I still have the original 3DS.
It's up to you whether the New 3DS will enhance your experience enough to warrant a purchase, but it's by no means necessary to enjoy most 3DS games.
@themcnoisy Everthing that @Storytime7 is spot on. I got a New 3DS and I enjoy all the little upgrades that it has, but you can enjoy most games on the regular. The C-Stick is actually good when you get used to it. If you like the 3D effect, it's a HUGE improvment over the regular model as it's VERY stable. Xenoblade Chronicles 3D is also a blast to play on the go.
