There's no doubt that the PlayStation 4's install base makes for pleasing reading, but the big winner for Sony is the amount of PlayStation Plus subscriptions that these sold systems are attracting. The number of members signed up to the premium service has doubled in the past year – and the Japanese giant wants to both keep those accounts active, and attract many more.

As part of an investors presentation, the organisation highlighted how it intends to do this: through further expansion of online titles and with the introduction of more PlayStation Originals. The first of these, Powers, launched earlier in the year to critical acclaim – and a second season of the top rated adaptation has already been commissioned.

Expect to see more of these types of shows in the future, with more likely to be announced at E3 next month. Sony Pictures recently trademarked a television and game series named The Player, which could well factor into its plans. We suspect that, for many of you, a better selection of Instant Game Collection software would be preferred to supplementary media, though.
