If you think that the PlayStation Vita’s the video game equivalent of Morrissey, then you may be surprised to learn that the handheld has more game than you think. In fact, this three hour video by dedicated Australian YouTuber BlueMaxima evidences as much, as it offers a summary of every single title currently available for the portable on the PlayStation Store.
We didn’t watch the whole thing, but we did skip straight to the end to see how the enthusiastic presenter’s energy levels held, and he sounds surprisingly fresh by the time that he gets to Zen Pinball 2 and Zombie Tycoon II. We suspect that a few cups of coffee helped with that – or, perhaps in true Aussie style, a couple o’ ‘tinnys’ of Fosters.

Video games+The Smiths = awesome. (On topic) Vita has plenty of content even if you skip games without trophies. Dont understand why at tjis stage some still believe it "gotz no gamz"
Vita has always had games from the beginning
We are well aware of the available titles. The problem is all the failed promises for the Vita
But how many are exclusive and not indie/psn games.
Also only a few if the exclusives actually feel made for the platform. Then there's if course the other problems.
In a Vita vs 3DS debate, I brought up the Ratchet & Clank Collection.
"Psh, I can play that on my PS3"
Yeah but not your 3DS, dipshit.
Problem is not many of those games are actual exclusives made for the Vita that is what people are complaining about. People can scream from the roof tops how the Vita is more powerful then lets say the 3DS but all the amazing exclusives on the 3DS make that redundant.
@Jazzer94 yeah in 2012 there were actually a lot of more exclusives on Vita than 3DS. But yeah 3DS does have more overall and forever will have more.
@DHW And you shouldve said I can play Mario and Zelda and Donkey Kong and basically every other Nintendo exclusive on Nintendo 64.
The Vita has so many great games. AAA and indie alike, though the last 18 months or so have certainly trended toward more on the indie side, and I'm fine with that. Sure, some are available on other platforms, but that doesn't change the fact that the Vita is almost always the best way to play it.
"Farming Simulator is a thing that I don't really understand..." Spoken true. Spoken true.
@GameAce Yeah
Thanks for doing an article on my video, guys. Kind of disappointed you didn't watch the whole thing
@DHW If you're discussing 3DS v Vita and the best you can do is argue you can play Ratchet and Clank you know you're losing an argument.
@XFsWorld Are you sure because when I think about all that comes to mind is........
HotShots Golf: World Invitational, Dokuro, Frobisher Says!, Wipeout 2048, Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Super Stardust Delta, Lumines: Electronic Symphony, Gravity Rush, LittleBigPlanet PS Vita.
3DS would be...................
Kid Icarus: Uprising, New Super Mario Bros. 2, Fractured Soul, Paper Mario: Sticker Star, Crashmo, Sakura Samurai: Art of the Sword, Harvest Moon 3D: A New Beginning, Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask, Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, The Denpa Men: They Came By Wave.
I'm obviously forgetting some but if there is a difference it was probably tiny and I know 3DS beats it out 2011, 13 and most likely this year.
@DHW
But that's the problem Vita's audience is more likely to have a PS3 than a 3DS, so Ratchet and Clank is not a selling point for someone who has a PS3 and don't care about portability.... Exclusives like Gravity Rush are more special because you can't play them on PS3... Even titles like VLR or Conception 2 which are Vita/3DS only are better than PS3/Vita titles because they can serve as a selling point for those who already have PS3s
@DHW I actually dont think there should be a debate Vita/3DS they both have their fans. Some gamers interested for exclusives but I really think the best selling point for 3DS is better suited for kids (sorry if some dont like hearing that).
Also I think you can be interested in a Vita even when the games you like are also on PS3 (or PS4) and you got it right there IMO
Many reasons to play the games on a handheld instead of a console and Vita reviews should focus on the Vita game with its portable quality (even if of course its interesting to know how better the console version is)
I didnt go through the video but probably the guy didnt go through the PSP games available in store which are IMO also VITA GAMES.
Rest is opinion, some think Vita is great and are happy with it (like me), some think its dead or crappy or whatever no need of a 'debate' XD
@Jazzer94 Do not include indie games, but yeah I'm almost positive. Just don't feel like listing them all lol.
@XFsWorld I didn't include indie games except maybe Dokuro.
If it's a vs 3DS debate, then just hold a 3DS for a bit. Don't even play anything, just hold it and push the buttons, move the circle pad...
It's a horrid peice of hardware. I find that to be a massive barrier, however good the software is meant to be.
And that said, I still find the software library on 3DS to be fairly juvenile, all of those amazing exclusives included.
@Jazzer94 Ok, Just counting the retail games.
@XFsWorld That was not my original point so no.
@KALofKRYPTON 3DS original is a bit on the cramped size for my big hands which is why I like the XL so much. The circle pad is fine and actually more comfortable to use over long periods then the Vita thumb sticks that don't have any real grip, whelp if the games are too "kiddy" for you that's fine for me I just like highly polished exclusives which the 3DS has tons of.
I have had the vita since launch and it was always that thing I paid €300 for. I bought it expecting it would change the handheld market and therefore my life as a gamer. There was quite the buzz surrounding this handheld at first and it had all the specs, and equally important the design, to actually be a hit; with 2 proper analog sticks we would finally be able to really play consoles like games on the go. After a solid start it didn't quite live up to my high expectations though, count in the expensive memory cards and the lack of big name games after a few months and I felt disappointed. I kept on hoping for some serious Sony support, just like we saw with the 3ds where Nintendo turned everything around in a years time. I played my vita every now and then, I liked it, but the feeling of holding the future of gaming in my hands was long gone. And then remote play happened! Remote play is by far the best thing that ever happened to the vita cause I started using it again: I bought myself a power grip and played my ps4 from everywhere in my house. I started to realize the potential again and it really rekindled my love for the Vita. I got more interested in the games that came out the last year or so and started buying some real gems. I'm totally hooked now and I love it as much as I loved my PSP, where I actually had the same problem: it was an excellent piece of hardware, but it didn't match my exact expectations. Once I got over that, I started to see the real beauty. The vita is now easily my number one handheld, I just needed his big brother to make me realize it
@KALofKRYPTON
Couldn't agree more. The 3ds hardware is just terrible imo. I bought one for Pokemon x/y and Naruto and though I did beat the Naruto game, I found it hard to keep gaming on 3ds, knowing that I had a vita waiting for me which felt 10x better to hold. The UI is also better on the vita and so is the ps store vs the 3ds' online store. The latter is just horrendous. The prices are bad, navigating it is hard and all I ended up doing was downloading a few demos.
As for the games, it all comes down to tastes. I prefer the vita games. Not only do they look better, but there is more variety as far as I'm concerned. Even the supposedly good 3ds games like Mario 3d land didn't do it for me. Though I have to say, I really like the 3d effect that some games implement well (Pokemon not being one of them).
At the moment I have enough vita games to play for years and I have yet to buy some that I really wanna play (Freedom Wars, FF 10, and Soul Sacrifice Delta being the ones I want the most).
@N711 It's more like the 3DS has a lot for everyone, while the Vita is mainly for "mature" players. People may say that the 3DS (and Nintendo) is for kids, but those are usually the most immature of all of us. The Vita has mostly PS3 ports with a few exclusives tossed in the mix. While there is nothing wrong with that, it also means that it has nothing to compel PS3 owners to buy it. As for 3DS owners those "kids" would rather play something more than "mature" games and ports of old PS3 games that failed to entice them to get a PS3 in the first place.
I am mainly a handheld player, but the Vita is not all that intriguing for me. It lost a lot of points for not being BC (which has been present in almost every Nintendo handheld), Sony doesn't seem to care about it anymore, I have not seen a commercial for it in years, and although I never had a PS3, it does not have any appealing games to me still. All I hear about it mostly is that it is more powerful than the 3DS (which I couldn't care less about), it has higher resolution than the 3DS (again, couldn't care less), and a new one here today about the design being bad. IMHO, the GBA was the worst designed handheld Nintendo had, which is what the PSP and Vita feel like to me, so I don't know where the "3DS design is bad" stuff comes from.
@TOMBOY25
Exactly. My cell phone has lots of games available too, but that doesn't mean I want to play any of them.
@eaglebob345 you should see my face when my kid is playing her lego games on the Vita. That's the only time I come to think 'the Vita is dying' thing XD
For most buyers I suppose are casual a 3DS seems more natural to give to a kid. The rest is preference as I said both have their fans and no need to lower one handheld or another
@N711 So basically you are saying that the Vita also has games for a younger audience, just as I said 3DS also has games for an older audience. Yes, between the two, the 3DS has a better overall appeal for children, as it does with everyone as a whole (Pokemon, Monster Hunter, Kingdom Hearts, and Resident Evil can all appeal to to the older audience). I believe I misunderstood your original comment. What it sounded like you meant was that the 3DS was meant for kids and Vita for everyone (evidenced by the "sorry if some don't like hearing that"). Also, I was not trying to lower one handheld to another, just relaying the situation as I see it.
@Godsire- As much as I don't support the current Vita game line up, the Vita games are no where near as bad as those pay-to-play things they call phone games.
@BlueMaxima I watched most of it and I'd never heard of you before. I even found out about a few games that had slid onto PSN which I knew nothing about.
Well, I have a 3DS for portability and Nintendo's exclusives (although I seldom take it with me) and the PS3 for Sony games. If I found more appealing Vita exclusives I would have one by now.
@eaglebob345 Yea I meant '3DS is better suited for kids' ...than the Vita.
and I believe thats why its selling so well.
Also it was a general statement that theres no point in lowering a handheld or even saying this one is better than the other.. they are different with different qualities and both have their fans in the 'mature' population at least.
I am one of the folks who will say that the Vita has no games... allow me to clarify. I do not mean that the Vita literally has no games available, that would just be silly, there are lots of games available. What I mean is, the vita is the only system I've ever owned where i have been able to play literally everything I have any interest in, plus a lot more that really didn't interest me just because it was free/dirt cheap with PS plus, and be sitting around waiting for more to be released. And I'm not the type to automatically dismiss a game because its indie or download only, some of my favorites have been indie titles.... doesn't change the fact that they aren't coming out as fast as I can play 'em. Since i don't generally replay games (unless I really enjoyed it, and its required for a platinum) my vita sees a lot more shelf time than any of my other systems. Honestly, I love the system, and it would most often be my go-to choice to play a game on given the option, but theres just not enough new stuff. I've got backlogs for days for half a dozen other systems and consoles. Not the Vita. It's all up to date.
The Vita PSN store has become like my fridge when I'm looking for a snack at 2am. I know theres nothing new in there, but I gotta look every 5 minutes anyway... and i'm always just a little disappointed.
"We suspect that a few cups of coffee helped with that – or, perhaps in true Aussie style, a couple o’ ‘tinnys’ of Fosters."
I couldn't help but read that in the dulcet tones of North Norfolk's greatest DJ in a mid morning slot on a commercial radio station (in the last three years).... Alan Gordon Partridge.
@Reverandjames
Interesting.
So let me get this straight. Me expressing my not-so-positive opinion on 3ds hardware is ridiculous. You saying that it has tons of better games for it is not. I hope the irony is not lost on you. I'll give you a hint: they are both opinions to which we're entitled. Just the way you enjoy 3ds games more than psvita games, I enjoy the vita hardware more than the 3ds hardware. For me, holding a 3ds is awkward. For you, it isn't. Simple as that.
Having said that, your last statement is a perfect example of ignorance. Saying that "all it has right now are shoddy ports and remakes of old games" is a gross exaggeration. Not only does it have several exclusives (Uncharted, Tearaway, Soul Sacrifice, Killzone: Mercenaries, Gravity Rush among others), but in terms of hardware, it can run games that 3ds cannot. The fact that it was "marketed as an HD gaming machine" is irrelevant as it does not affect my experience as a gamer one bit.
@Reverandjames Ridiculous? No.
It's clunky, cheap feeling, and the inputs are horrible- buttons, circle pad and touchscreen all.
It's just not very nice.
The GBA/SP/MICRO were all better put together than the entire DS range.
I've nothing against it really, my daughter loves hers, but the hardware is nasty.
As for the library, I didn't say it was 'for kids', I said it was juvenile, which it mostly is. Again, nothing wrong with that- many of my 30 something friends still love pokemon and animal crossing. But I never got in to either. And I don't need a dozen variations of Mario.
The only problem with all these tons of exclusives for the 3DS is that they're always the same kinda game. Pokemon, Mario, Zelda etc, the vita exclusives are all varied which in my opinion is better since owning my vita I play such a wide range of games now and so what if there not AAA does that make it a bad game?
@daveh30 Just my opinion and not wanting to start a heated discussion on whos wrong etc..
tbh Im slow finishing games (if finishing is a proper word since I keep coming back to a few) but I have the feeling a few gamers a kinda bulimic and are very quickly done with a game.. thats not a personal critic people play the way they want to.
Also I feel it s a bit like people saying PS4 has no games. But if they dont have enough games to play on their Vita/PS4 (considering they talk about the games they interested in and/or that they dont replay much and/or dont mind spending a lot of money on buying a lot of games) I got the feeling they will never have enough games to play depending on when they started to play on this device.
People who just get a Vita or a PS4 have a ton of games to play and will need a while to go through them in the meantime a lot of new games will be out.
Personally with a PS4 a PS3 and a Vita spending time with all of them I cant imagine anybody being short of any game to play
@KALofKRYPTON Calling the games juvenile is calling them childish which is you basically dismissing it for kids.
@danny2kd If you are only playing Mario, Pokemon and Zelda games on 3DS you are doing it wrong, really that statement oozes ignorance.
@Jazzer94 No, it isn't. If I wanted to say that it's just for kids, I'd say it's just for kids. The majority of the library is based on cartoon/toy properties or long standing series.
The 'for kids' label, however right or wrong is of Nintendos own making. Their reliance on their own properties results in mostly kid friendly games, which is fine. Sony's library tends to lean the other way, since their first party offerings are built upon the acquisition of many other studios.
And 50 million people can totally be wrong, look at the Wii. Best thing that did was play GameCube games and Resi 4.
@N711 I wouldn't say I'm bulimic with games. If anything I'm a binger. I'm a 100%er, and a trophy whore, but once I've platinumed a game I'm not gonna replay it, unless there's some new DLC or somthing. The difference with the vita and the PS4, or even the Wii U is just the size of the games. There's nothing the scope of Watch Dogs, AC4, or even the Mario games, that's gonna take that amount of time to 100%. There's nothing like Mario Kart 7 or 8 that's gonna keep me coming back. There's a couple kart racers, but they pale against MK. Once I got the trophies in Ben10 racing and Mod Racers, they both got deleted and it s back to mk7 for on the go racing. They only 'big' games you could say I'm skipping are jrpgs. Don't like em . But I've never had to resort to those to stay busy on any other system either.
Yes if You're gonna buy a vita today, there's a lot of good games to play. I bought mine about 18 months ago, and those games have dried up.
If someone would just release a half decent hockey game on it, I'd never put it down.... Sigh. I'd gladly take even a PSone classic.
@Jazzer94 they was merely examples
https://twitter.com/VideoGamesFacts/status/498246156787675136/photo/1
Its so hard not to feel pity and at the same time hate.
@danny2kd Ignorant sounding examples.
@KALofKRYPTON A majority of Vita games look like cartoons so that kind of point is irrelevant.
@Reverandjames
Your logic is deeply flawed.
1. You called my opinion on 3ds hardware "ridiculous", so your comment was most certainly out of line, as I was only expressing my opinion. Just the way I don't try to offend you for both thinking that the 3ds hardware is good or that the 3ds games are better, so should you respect other people's opinions and not call the "ridiculous". You weren't just expressing your opinion; you were also criticizing others'. Huge difference.
2. "Nearly 50 million people can't be wrong". Yes they can. Your statement suggests that whatever sells well is necessarily a quality product, which is far from the case. I bought a 3ds and I'm not happy with it. Does my purchase mean that I consider it a good product? What about Michael Bay movies? "They made over a billion, they can't be wrong". What about Call of Duty games? Or Watch Dogs, which had incredible sales due to hype and left people who played it disappointed. How many times have COD fans complained about the franchise and then stated that they're buying the latest game anyway? In other words, 50m sales can only be an indication of quality and nothing more.
Also: you know you've lost an argument when you feel the need to point out one's spelling mistake.
@daveh30
Can you give us a list of the ps vita games you've played? Maybe we could recommend a game or two that you've missed so far. For example, have you played Soul Sacrifice? I played that game for more than 100 hours. Destiny of spirits around 700 so far and games like Rayman Origins took me months to platinum.
@Reverandjames Imma step in here.
"My comment was geared more towards statements being made towards the fact tat the 3DS is a horrible piece of hardware and being 'horredndous'. Nearly 50 million people can't be wrong."
You can't speak for me nor those 50 million people and you most certainly can't link sales with subjective opinions on hardware. Success is a completely different beast altogether. Its all subjective, but sales can't back up that type of opinion unless you verify it with every 3DS owner.
@Reverandjames
1. I made the same remark about 3ds hardware and you called such an opinion "ridiculous". You replied to both of us.
2. "There's no point in having a discussion with you when you actually think that the 3DS is still a bad console despite it being massively succsessful."
Do you listen to yourself? Why would the sales of a console change my perception of the console? Would I enjoy Transformers just because it made a lot of money? What kind of logic is this?
Are you actually saying that every product that sells well is good and every product that sells badly is not?
@Reverandjames Thats a story for a different day. Right now it doesn't matter, you can't use sales to support subjective opinions you're masquerading as facts.
By your logic i and every 3DS owner has to conform to the norm that 3DS is "a great console with great hardware, a great interface and great exclusives." just because its successful. Thats not how it works. Annual franchises are successful, should we find no fault in that?
@naruball Its not a matter of 'missing' games... they're all listed right there in the psn store. if you're missing games, you aren't looking. I'm to the point where I've probably spent more time on the PSN store, going through and looking up reviews for literally every title on there, in order, to make sure I don't miss something that might interest me, than I have playing games on the thing. Soul Sacrifice I Platinumed in about 60ish hours. I played that solely for the trophies (it was free or dirt cheap at some point on PS+...) not my kinda thing at all. Rayman was about a week to Plat.
@Jazzer94 Looking like a cartoon isn't the same as having the same content, characters or tone as one.
@Reverandjames See Call of Duty. Widely regarded as regurgitative series and some sort of cultural cancer on the industry. Yet incredibly successful.
@Reverandjames
Read your own sentence again:
"There's no point in having a discussion with you when you actually think that the 3DS is still a bad console despite it being massively succsessful."
You assume that just because it's selling well it's indisputably a good console. The basis of your argument is that "Every product that sells well is good and every product that sells badly is not?", no matter how many times you deny it. (hence also why you also brought the bad psvita sales into this)
@daveh30
Seems to me that it's a combo of you being insanely good at games (never heard anyone platinuming those two games so fast- it took my more than 50 tries to beat certain speed levels on Rayman Origins) and your tastes in video games being quite limited. There are just too many good games available at the moment and you're the first person I've heard saying that he's that invested in the console (spending hours on the ps store) and not having a huge backlog already. Especially when it comes to JRPg's like Persona 4 Golden that take more than a 100 hours to beat or even Rayman Legends (I've lost count of how many hours I've spent playing it and still nowhere near unlocking the last character).
@KALofKRYPTON "Looking like a cartoon isn't the same as having the same content, characters or tone as one."
Thanks for proving my point.
@naruball lol, i don't like jrpgs, or Soul Sacrifice, so my taste is 'quite limited'?
i dunno, i don't have many friends who own a vita, but the ones who do and will argue that his a great library are the couple of guys i know who love jrpgs. The rest us of, we've played what we're interested in, and we wait. For some of us thats more than others (i will play stuff i normally otherwise wouldn't just for trophies... its starting to border on addiction, really.) For me, personally, i'm up to date it on Vita. Never felt that way on any other system. Truth be told, it makes me miss the pre-download days. felt like there was always something new to find... now, with everything easily available without leaving the couch, i know theres nothing new to find. That feeling of coming across some hidden gem in a bargain bin at a used game store just isnt there now. sigh All you can do now is wait for the new download list every tuesday and hope....
(although we do get Minecraft this month! that will suck me back in and devour a huge chunk of my life. just hoping for a new/ different trophy list from the PS3 version...)
@Jazzer94 Quite the opposite.
A Pokemon game (for example), will be pitched towards the target audience of the associated cartoon/toy/ccg.
Something like Guacamalee looks like a cartoon but has no association with a children's targeted product. So isn't intrinsically aimed at a younger audience, nor does it pander to one.
Do you understand now?
@Reverandjames
No shame in admitting that you're wrong. But that could lead to improvement and we don't want that.
@daveh30
Yeah, I know what you mean about old times and dicovering hidden games...
As for jrpgs, I didn't mean that if you don't like them, then you're tastes are limited, but that your tastes may be limited and JRPG's would be an example. I, for example, don't like sports, fps and racing games so unlike some people, I don't get to enjoy games like Uncharted (though it is a 3rd person shooter), Killzone or Borderlands, all of which sound great. Same with Fifa games, football manager and all the racing games on vita that have incredible replay value.
@KALofKRYPTON Cherry picking is a pathetic way to prove a point, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Dual Destinies and SMTIV both look like cartoons but touch on serious issues. Pokemon is a crap example due to the fact it has a huge more adult following from how complex and rewarding the game is at high level.
Both devices are marketed to kids (just look at recent UK Vita commercials) the reason being is that they are the biggest market, the 3DS isn't anymore for kids then the Vita is only ignorant people make comments like that.
@KALofKRYPTON
"And 50 million people can totally be wrong, look at the Wii. Best thing that did was play GameCube games and Resi 4."
Why are they wrong? Because they like something you don't?
3DS is for Kids.
Vita is for adult.
Believe it or not Vita is great.dislike 3DS and platformer games.
In the end its all about personal preference which system they play on and like more. (even if sales wise a system is poor.) Of course the vita has more games than this (I don't need to watch a 3 hour long vid. No thank you). I just wish that they a bit more prevalence on the internet/tv. Nowadays I hear this of this system via word of mouth and from sites like you guys.
