Scathingly apt

The majority of Sony’s attention may be pointed directly at the PlayStation 4, but that doesn’t mean that the platform holder’s done tweaking its former flagship format. A brand new mandatory firmware update is available for the PlayStation 3 right now – even if it has arrived with much less fanfare than its successor’s latest patch.

What does the fix do? Well, that’s not entirely clear – but the manufacturer’s official Japanese website does mention something about “system software stability”. Of course, the real downside is that you’ll have to manually sit through the laborious process of downloading and installing it, which feels even more tedious in this post-PS4 world. Oh well, at least it’ll give you a chance to cut your toenails.
