Play, create... nightmare

Every crossover fighting game needs a nonsensical narrative, and PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale is certainly no exception. While developer SuperBot Entertainment has been reluctant to share details about the mascot mash-up’s plot, it has revealed that each character will have a rival. And, according to a recent issue of PlayStation: The Official Magazine, Sackboy and Big Daddy are not best the best of friends.

The cataclysmic fall out transpires when Big Daddy’s Little Sister decides that Sackboy is cuddlier than her gigantic guardian. Plunged into a blood-thirsty rage, Big Daddy decides to exert his revenge on the burlap buccaneer, which spells trouble for the Imagisphere.

Elsewhere in the article, SuperBot Entertainment reveals that the fighter will feature unlockable Minions, who act as cheerleaders during matches. Confirmed characters include Kat from Ninja Theory’s upcoming Devil May Cry reboot and the incredibly oafish Captain Qwark.

Finally, the game will boast a slew of combat trials designed to teach you how to pull together increasingly complex combos. You’ll need all the help you can get to defeat the game’s final boss, who will apparently be “instantly recognisable to old-school PSone fans”. We’re going to go out on a limb here, and suggest that Polygon Man is the overarching antagonist. At least, we hope he is...
