@YummyHappyPills the Order is great. 8-10 hours, cool characters and art, amazing graphics and photo mode, decent story and serviceable shooting. The huge negative is the lack of replayability. Dont believe everything you read, almost everyone who has spoken or commented to me about it found it decent. Its pretty much a victorian version of gears of war with a better story.

I can't comment on Knack - I haven't played it.
Looks OK - nothing ground breaking but potentially enjoyable.

You can't really crap on a game people like then take umbrage when they say they like it.

@JohnnyShoulder I don't know where you got the idea the PS3 was more powerful from? Maybe it was in the case of the CPU but the GPU was better in the XB360 and, more importantly, the RAM configuration was much better too. Both may have had 512MB of RAM but Sony's was split into two 256MB blocks and couldn't work together. The CPU was better BUT also a lot more complicated so that, combined with slightly less GPU power and split RAM made it more difficult for Multi-platform games to run as well on PS3. Xbox also had the benefit of a faster network for better online gaming too. It was Sony's marketing that made you believe it was more powerful -and that was the case in the CPU but then the XB1 has a 'better' CPU than in the PS4 (1.75ghz vs 1.6ghz) and look how that turned out...

@BAMozzy @JohnnyShoulder
The actual difference is barely worth debate.
The PS3 was in several ways a slightly more capable machine - but very few developers took advantage of the Cell processor and really optimising anything that was multi-platform. It was a generation marred by demands of multi-platform parity where the Microsoft machine was just easier and quicker to work with.

Some later first party titles really do show off what could be achieved though (try getting a 360 to run The Last of Us) - and the few titles where PS3 was the lead platform it was easier to port over to the relatively simple PC-like architecture of the 360 and parity was easily achieved.

Regarding the PS4/XB1 - it really is even more a 'much of a muchness' - architectures are near enough identical with choices of bandwidth availability being the key factor for each base machine.

@KALofKRYPTON Is unfair to say the Xbox360 couldn't run Last of Us as that was 'exclusive' to PS3 and Naughty Dog seem to get more out consoles. Look at Uncharted 4 for example - the facial animations and little details go above and beyond - its still a technical show-piece game. Gears of War - particularly 2 was a stunning looking game - also a third person cover shooter that runs at 30fps. The reason its not as 'high profile' is more that the sci-fi setting, story and 'bromance' wasn't to everyone's taste but the story of Last of Us was more universally liked.

GPU was similar but it was still more powerful in the 360 and the better RAM configuration was the main reason that games ran better. The devs had to be a lot more creative with RAM on the PS3 and try to limit certain aspects down to no more than 1 block. The 360 though had much more flexibility - if the game needed more than 256MB of RAM allocated to a task, that was no issue on the 360 - this was key to performance - especially visuals. The Xbox also had eDRAM built in as well which also helped give games an edge over PS3.

@BAMozzy 360 hit the ceiling of what dev's were capable of getting out of it relatively early due to the 'ease of use'. With the PS3 it took a lot more time, and mostly first party developers getting things like The Last of Us working. I doubt very much that there is as technically efficient, proficient or better looking game of similar scale on the 360.

GoW2 is a decent looking game, but as you say - it's just a cover shooter with almost entirely scripted, by the numbers progression. It's like pointing at Killzone 2 and saying how amazing it looks (which it does) but not acknowledging that it's a corridor shooter without very much going on that isn't scripted.

@KALofKRYPTON Obviously you didn't play Gears of War 2 - but that also came out 5yrs before the Last of Us and was playable co-operatively too and with a bigger MP to it as well.

The point I was making though was that @JohnnyShoulder was miss-informed if he thought that the PS3 was significantly more powerful and struggled to run the multi-platform games as well. There was fundamental reasons why the PS3 often couldn't achieve parity. The GPU itself was slightly less powerful but it was only a bit less but the RAM was a stumbling block...

I wasn't trying to debate this but correcting the information. The difference was not as significant as the PS4 vs XB1 but you could argue that the more powerful PS4 proved that the better visuals/performance were important. I know some may put the MS E32013 as part of the problem but I bet if it had done gaming better, it would have been a lot closer - if not the other way round...

@BAMozzy The RAM in the PS3 also ran at different speeds....

I hope whoever said yes to sone of those choices got drop kicked out of a window becayse DAMN thats almost as dumb as the PSn using that stupid search feature when the system has an on screen keyboard.

Almost.

The RAM is worse.

Either way, the Mega Man X Legacy Collection 1 and 2 both land in Japan on July 26th. Various unique boss challenges and movies available.

Collection 1 is X/X2/X3/X4, and Collection 2 is X5/X6/X7/X8.

In Japan you can get it physically and digitally on PS4. Digital only on Xbox One and PC. Digital on Switch with a physical release that requires one of the collections to be downloaded.

I imagine this will ring true for the West, with some modifications. That will be physical releases in the US on PS4 and Xbox One, with the same cheap physical release for Switch. The EU wont get any physical releases, as usual.

Check what i said, it wasn't that.

I always assumed the PS3 was the slightly more powerful console. This was from articles and reviews i read when choosing between the two consoles. One of the reasons i chose the 360 was cos some of the games i was interested in performed better on the 360.

Switch isn't getting that Mega Drive compilation other systems are getting, it's getting something better...but worse.

Better in that M2, the guys behind the 3DS 3D Classics from SEGA, are porting titles to Switch under the SEGA AGES banner, which means they will likely be bespoke ports rather than emulators with potential issues, if their 3DS work is anything to go by.

The downside is, individually sold it seems, so more expensive.

@YummyHappyPills Hopefully we get most or all of the same games over time.

I don't mind them being sold individually, as it just means I can buy what I want and ignore the rest.

Valkyria Chronicles 1 is releasing on Switch in Japan.

I mean thats hardly relevant unless it gets localised (doubtful atm) but its a thing thats happening.

This has been pointed out on NL but is worth repeating here:

Seeing DQ Heroes 1/2 still not localized, seeing Nobanuga's Ambition Taishi, which already released on Switch in Japan, get announced for PS4 and PC in the west but not Switch, continues to paint the picture we see where publishers only believe western sales come from non-Nintendo platforms.

And then you can live in Europe where it feels more and more like we are only getting third party games when someone else foots the bill.

A lot of Nicalis games are only released here later because yes, someone else paid up. Dark Souls is published by Nintendo of Europe here at retail. Same for DOOM and Skyrim.

And lets not even talk about Capcom...they straight up said theres no money in it.

It loops back to a discussion in the chit chat thread, for the UK at least, stores only stock the usual sellers because those are the only ones that move, so why release physical gamss on the worst performing system here when no one will give even notable Switch games shelf space, or niche games on the market leader PS4 any room?

Seems the only reason we are seeing third party on Switch is because other people foot the bill.
