@Hatsune_Miku The Genshin Impact one certainly is terrible. I mean, it's their smartphone icon... I do hope devs become more consistent. Look at Assassin's Creeds for example; Origins and Odyssey have great icons but for some reason Ubisoft decided to just use the Assassin symbol for Valhalla. It's pretty lame.
@Hatsune_Miku Not sure you understand what I'm saying. PS5 used to pull from the store whether the dev wanted to or not. It's not a glitch it works like the PS4, Xbox, and Switch now instead of automatically pulling from the store. The main reason they did this is because PS4 games no longer share icons with PS5 games.
Now, if devs want to change the icon they need to do it with a patch like it works everywhere else. That's why you see games like CoD and Fortnite with seasonal icons but Avengers without it. What it really comes down to is consistency. If you think Tales should have proper artwork on their icon you should ask Namco Bandai or complain to Sony that they should require devs to follow certain rules for icons.
I said this above but it's worth repeating. This has nothing to do with devs changing the icons for seasonal content. They have been able to do this for years. It works the same way on every console. They just have to update it via a patch which makes sense.
The way the PS5 handled this originally did not make sense. They pulled all the icons from the PS store which causes all kinds of issues. Yes it made Spiderman and AC: Valhalla have proper box art icons but it made some games purchased through collections (shenmue, Batman, etc) have the same icon even if it didn't make sense. It's also why this ugly PS Hits icons were on them.
Fortnight, Call of Duty, Rocket League, and any other dev that wants to change their icon can and will continue to do it like they have for years, via a patch. Automatically matches an icon to the store sounds like a good idea but in practice it causes more problems than it is worth. It's now completely up to the devs so of you have a problem with an icon you should complain to them. After all, Spiderman may have a ***** icon now but Rachet and Clank has a great one. Maybe we should ask insomniac to be consistent instead of force store icons on every app regardless of whether it makes sense.
Pretty sure you guys are wrong about this. Devs can change their icons with this system as many devs have. Just look at Fortnite and call of duty. This is just the way PS4 handled icons for years and it's going back to that.
The old system actually did not have devs change the icons. The old system pulled the icons from the PS Store which is why the PlayStation Hits games had that ugly banner. So whether devs wanted to or not the icons would use the store ones. If anything this means that devs had less choice.
@The_Pixel_King It caused a lot of problems though. You already mentioned the PS Hits banner but it was also a pain for game collections. Games like Batman: Return to Arkham, Shenmue, and the Bioshock collection. All games in these collections shared the same icon so when I played Shenmue 2 it would only display the Shenmue 1 icon, Arkham city would only show the Arkham Asylum icon. That's even the case for preorder bonus like art books and soundtracks. They all shared the same icon and it was really a pain. Now it is up to the dev to decide. The real problem is that for what ever reason, some devs think an icon with just the logo and no title like the Spider-man ones is okay which I really don't like.
@3Stock_Samwise Actually same. That is really the only good news to come out of this preorder mess. I won't bother with the Horizon collector's but this is getting me excited for when the inevitable God of War one is announced.
@Lyonjak Honestly, cross gen games should stay $60 and give you dual entitlement. They should only charge $70 for next-gen exclusives. This is what I think Xbox is doing (besides Flight Sim which is niche) and it is vastly superior to what Sony is up to.
***** of them. At least offer dual entitlement for the $69.99 version of the game. Even Call of Duty is doing this better... I was lucky enough to get a PS5 at launch so this doesn't affect me but really bad for current PS4 owners who really want access to the better version when they get a PS5.
Shame, I went digital middle of last year and traded in most of my games, including Death Stranding. I'll probably end up just buying the complete package when ever it goes on sale.
@Jayslow Hey, if those 8-10 games have no sentimental value then you could just sell them and get PS credit. I kept about 20 games out of sentimental value when I traded most of my collection in last year. After being digital for some time I decided it was time to get rid of those too and now I am pretty much set for the year. It's kind of nice not being held down by the NEED of owning something physically.
@Jayslow Yeah the PS Plus version confused a lot of people lol. Basically, if you purchased the game on PS4 you get a free upgrade but it doesn't come with the Yuffie content. That stuff you need to buy as separate DLC. If you got it through PS plus you will need to pay full price for the PS5 version.
Personally, I have started to shift to digital during the pandemic so I ended up buying the digital PS4 version. Now, all I have to pay for is the Yuffie DLC which I am hoping is $20.
@Jayslow Not really, P4G and P5R were both full price rereleases. Have you forgotten that PS5 owners get a free upgrade for the base version and just need to buy the DLC separately? With P5R thee was no way to just purchase the DLC.
@TheRedComet Sure but no amount of compression is gonna get an 80+ GB game to fit on a 50 GB disc. Final Fantasy VII Remake is about the same size and it needed two disc. I guess we will find out soon enough though.
@Zuljaras Doubt it. EA is not in the habit of releasing games with multiple disc and PS4 disc only hold 50 GB so imma go ahead and bet that it's one disc with a huge download attached. No codes or anything. Sort of like what Activision did with the Spyro collection.

Re: Mass Effect Legendary Edition Download Size Is Massive on PS5, PS4
@KnightRider1982 It would only be two but I'm betting it will be one blu ray with a big download.
