Around 20hrs in....feel as though I need to complete it now but was done around 8hrs ago. This is a slog. Graphics are top notch, animations are fantastic, encounters can be tense but the pacing is so slow at many points, far too much filler, the script is terrible in comparison to the first with the only good interactions being with Joel and Ellie in flashbacks (the birthday flashback is such a good indication of what this game could have been). The gameplay gets stale very quickly, I am now sick of seeing the same animation for choking out enemies, the AI can be ok however time and time again an enemy was staring straight at me and the vision meter was filling and I literally ducked down and he lost me. It's totally dumb. Also the sound design of enemies dying had me in tears with laughter, it really is ridiculous at times. Story wise it is pretty standard but when thinking again of it against the first game it is lame in comparison and I have managed to avoid spoilers but I feel it is going two ways either Ellie gets her revenge, which is a standard ending or as Druckman indicated the story was about the pointlessness of revenge, then both of them decide to walk away, which if I have endured what I have for both of them to say....ah never mind let's call it quits, I will be super peeved. I do believe though what this game has done is reaffirm that the professional reviewers are all just trying to stay on the good side because no way is this a 10/10 perfect game. Any other title on the front of this and it would be languishing around the mid point. For me at the moment I would say it's around a 5 or 6/10 purely for pacing and sheer repetition of gameplay. Let's hope it improves but as I am now Abby I think not, definitely the most disappointing game of the generation.
So people can't give a 0 if they only played a few hours and hated it yet they can play a few hours, love it and give it a 10?? There will always be people who down vote for the sake and there will always be people who up vote for the sake and that's the issue with reviews. I personally reviewed this as a 4 on metacritic as it has terrible gameplay, yet a captivating story but I am playing a game not watching a movie. If I was rating it on story alone it would be a 7 or 8 for me but really repetitive, dull gameplay elements drag this right down for me. Will be selling my copy today, but I tried it and it's just way too much of a snooze fest. Suppose that means I must start playing Fortnite or Call of Duty (as I am told countless times on other pages if I mention I didn't like this game) seems that's my only option.
