Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Silent Hill 2?

TruestoryYep

@RBMango I like the "jumpscares" and never thought anything bad about the performances of Mary/Maria. My only gripe would be that it's too easy, apparently like the original. It's a horror game but not "survival" for me because I never had any worry about enemies, ammo or health.

The game nailed the atmosphere and everything else though. 8 or 9? I'm not sure what I can decide on.

Re: Random: Hideo Kojima's Chronic Back Pain Symptom of Carrying Video Game Industry, Fans Say

TruestoryYep

@Yagami Eh there's other games I would consider better than all three. Resident Evil 1-2 including their remakes in place of 4. Silent Hill 2 in place of Snake Eater. Nioh 2 in place of Dark Souls. And you know, the game Yagami is from, Judgement, I would consider better than Snake Eater, Dark Souls and Resident Evil 4.

And that's not getting into Nintendo games, which strangely are never discussed here. Zelda, Metroid, Mario games etc. Ocarina of Time is still the highest rated game of all time. Even recent Zeldas are high up, with Breath of the Wild being often at the top of people's personal lists.

Re: Dragon Age Series Ditches Those Disgusting Spiders in The Veilguard

TruestoryYep

@Matroska Remove blood next. What about people with hemophobia? Get rid of caves too. What about people with claustrophobia? Heights? What about people with a phobia of heights?

It's less about the game being "woke" and more about people wondering how a series that was originally dark fantasy and somewhat "gritty" is toning down the "darkness" because some people are apparently scared of fictional things in a video game, including things that are part of the real world. I wonder if the removal of giant spiders also means there won't be any small ones in the environment or cobwebs.

That's just being too sensitive.

Re: PS5 Exclusives Astro Bot, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Lead Golden Joystick Nominations

TruestoryYep

The fact Dragon's Dogma 2 is there but not Black Myth Wukong or Stellar Blade, despite the later two having higher ratings from players and critics alike, shows these awards are already irrelevant.

If the Game Awards is the same thing, it'll also expose them as being irrelevant.

Could be political for the reason these games aren't included. As we know, some journalists have been upset with these two games accusing them of sexism.

Re: Upcoming PS5 Games for October and November 2024

TruestoryYep

@The_Wailing_Doom The only exclusive on this list is Until Dawn. A remaster of a PS4 game...and wait it's also releasing the same day on PC too.

So yeah, where are the exclusives? Unless you want to count the timed exclusive of Silent Hill 2 which is also releasing the same day on PC too? Strange hill to die on but you do you.

Re: Ever-Evolving, Live Service Experiences Like Fortnite Are 'the Future of Gaming'

TruestoryYep

@Shad361 We can use the same logic to your argument. Cherry picked games. What about Suicide Squad failing? Concord? Redfall? Babylon's Fall? Marvel's Avengers and the inevitable failure of the upcoming Sony Fairgames?

Besides, Mario Kart, Animal Crossing and Smash Bros are all also single player with extensive single player content. Meanwhile Animal Crossing, much like Elden Ring, was mainly brought for its single player component. It having multiplayer is just a plus. That's something you ignored. None of the games you listed are live service multiplayer only games. Few live service games are actually successful and not many even come close to the success of Fortnite or Call of Duty. Even established franchises like Halo tried and failed. Halo Infinite is practically dead, regularly being beaten on Steam by its non live service counterpart: the Halo MCC collection.

Meanwhile strictly single player experiences continue to do well like others have said, like the recent example of Black Myth Wukong.

If Nintendo thought single player was dead, we wouldn't have got Zelda TOTK last year, a new top down Zelda this year and we wouldn't be getting Metroid Prime 4 next year. There also wouldn't be any new 3d Mario games ever again.

Re: Dragon Quest Veterans on Dealing with 'Ridiculous Country' USA Amid Censorship Row

TruestoryYep

He's right. None of it makes sense but it's got nothing to do with any religious concepts anymore. Instead today it's out of fear of offending anyone or being accused of not "being inclusive" especially when it comes to the gender removal.

Then again, what's the point complaining if they won't do anything about it? Go with the higher age rating and if they, like many, find the "body type" in place of gender stupid, remove it. Or does the publisher make these decisions?

Re: Suda 51 Says 'Everyone Cares Too Much About Metacritic Scores'

TruestoryYep

@johnedwin No not always true. There's so many games widely agreed to be masterpieces that are like 8/10 on Metacritic like Ghost of Tsushima, Nioh 2, Streets of Rage 4, Hi Fi Rush, Yakuza 0, Judgment, Metroid Dread (which also won GOTY awards) etc.

And this year, the most successful and most well received game by players is Wukong. 8/10 on Metacritic but most people are saying it's GOTY.

What these games all have in common is player reviews and player consensus of these games is much higher.

Then you have games like Dragon's Dogma 2, Cyberpunk and Fallout 4 which has high critic scores but low scores from players. So yeah, critic scores aren't always accurate.

Re: Japan Sales Charts: Astro Bot Barely Registers at Retail, PS5 Numbers Plummet After Price Hike

TruestoryYep

@Jrs1 "Obviously not enough under age school girls in astro bot, so no chance of high sales in the native territory."

What a silly and salty comment. The best selling games of last year in Japan were Zelda, Mario, Pikmin and Kirby. None of these franchises are about underage school girls.

The reason why Astro Bot is not selling well in Japan is because all the players who want adventure or platform games, have Nintendo Switches instead. Sony has long lost the market in Japan. That's just a fact.

Re: Black Myth: Wukong's Sales Top 18 Million in Two Weeks on PS5, PC

TruestoryYep

@somnambulance

No, it's because it's a genuinely good game. It's also based on Journey to the West, which is heavily popular in Asia and already had hype following it before release.

I remember seeing this game years ago and thinking it looks amazing.

I'd also say it's a 9/10 game imo. The boss fights alone blow every boss from other action games and action RPGs out of the water.

Re: Poll: Are You Playing Black Myth: Wukong?

TruestoryYep

@RagnarLothbrok Neither. There is leveling but health and stamina increases are minimum, it's mainly about unlocking new skills and upgrading existing ones including the spells, transformations and using the set bonuses of armour.

It plays like its own game. I'd say its difficulty is harder than those games though.

Re: Poll: Are You Playing Black Myth: Wukong?

TruestoryYep

I got it on release and have found it to be amazing so far. Great gameplay and the bosses are insanely fun to fight too. I'm on Chapter 3 right now and still finding new things out about the combat. The environment in the 3rd chapter is beautiful too.

I've been pleasantly surprised by the exploration too. After Chapter 1, there is actually good exploration to be had between bosses and more regular enemies to fight too and I've been enjoying fighting them too.

All the NPCs are a crazy cast of characters as well and this game has great dialogue. I'm surprised Wukong hasn't talked since the prologue though.

For me, the game is GOTY so far.

Re: Site News: Where's Our Black Myth: Wukong PS5 Review?

TruestoryYep

@Colour Where are you seeing that? We'll see with player reviews anyway. I've only heard of a few bugs mentioned in the PC version. I doubt it'll be as bad as Cyberpunk either technically or gameplay wise.

Truth is, the PS5 and Xbox Series X are probably already outdated for many Unreal Engine 5 titles which is why they can only use 4k at 30fps.

Sad that as next gen truly starts, it seems consoles will now struggle. Glad I went back to PC gaming.

Re: Random: Divisive Dark Souls 2 Is Seeing a Resurgence and Some Revisionist History

TruestoryYep

@KundaliniRising333 Is it really herd mentality? A lot of flaws can be pointed out with the game such as the weird hitboxes on the player, the terrible level design, the odd level transitions (which some people tried to defend with a lore explanation of "time is convoluted"), recycled bosses and some downright terrible animations and models on enemies like with the Falconers, Lion humanoid enemies or miners for example. Then of course there's the extreme graphical downgrade the game had along with the extreme washed out lighting that just made the game look ugly.

I think there's more herd mentality with people who defend everything about From Software's games and argue that they're perfect.

It reminds me of how Bethesda games used to be considered. The fans would never accept any flaws with the games.

Re: Ubisoft Suggests More Development Time Required for Future Assassin's Creed Games

TruestoryYep

@chucksneed

It's not disingenuous. Yasuke was presented as a Samurai in both Nioh 1&2 and nobody complained.

So the guy you're replying to is right. It's just outrage drama. All these games are fiction anyway. Stop with this nonsense that Assassin's Creed is historical. We weren't made by aliens, there aren't any alien artefacts here on Earth and there's no Templar Illuminati controlling the governments from the shadows either. The games are fiction.

As for culture, so it's ok when the Japanese make games based on foreign cultures and change things, go by rumors or fictionalise things but it's bad when a Western dev does it?

Then your next outrage should be directed towards all those JRPGs which grossly misrepresent Christian culture and symbolism.

That's the other thing, nobody complained when Assassin's Creed was doing all that until now with the Japanese setting. Before that, I seem to recall all the other games saying historical people like Jesus and Alexander the Great weren't even human, they were aliens or at least influenced by alien technology.

Again, nobody complained.

So if you're really concerned about historical accuracy...you missed the boat by 17 years...

Re: PS5's Lack of Tentpole Exclusives Isn't Hurting Engagement, Says Sony

TruestoryYep

Capitalism is a success? Ok. Sony being successful doesn't mean their console is good. Now they've admitted to a lack of exclusives so people can stop pretending otherwise.

The console is a success for the company not the consumer. You're playing the same games you could play on PC and 99% of them on Xbox (which also has the same problem as the PS5 in lack of exclusives).

These consoles aren't a creative success though, that's the issue.

Re: PlayStation's Domination of Europe Set to Continue with Renewed Champions League Sponsor

TruestoryYep

@Mikey856 That actually means Nintendo is still the market leader since lifetime sales of all Nintendo consoles and handhelds is at 863.07 million hardware units... which is a lot more than 500 million units of consoles and handhelds sold by Sony.

Honestly why expect otherwise? Nintendo was making hardware 10 years before Sony and continues to do well, with the Switch outselling its eighth gen competition including the PS4. While the PS4 took 7 years to reach 114 sales, Switch surpassed that in 5 years.

Really this is all meaningless anyway. Both companies are clearly successful in the end with their hardware sales unlike Microsoft with Xbox.

Re: Phantom Blade Zero Dev Denies 'Nobody Needs Xbox' Quote as Outrage Over PS5 Exclusivity Brews

TruestoryYep

@Jamesblob

The PS3 console, that like the PS5 today had no games for a long time? The PS4 and PS5 today doesn't even have backwards compatibility with PS1/2/3 titles.

The feature of free online multiplayer is gone too. Your post has only reminder me of how far Sony has fallen too especially with the PS5.

PS5 has very few actually next gen exclusive games too. How's it different to the Xbox right now?

This "next gen" generation so far has only been a success for cross platform titles that are on PC too.

Re: Here's Your First Look at the Like a Dragon: Yakuza Television Show

TruestoryYep

Looks good from the teaser but it's Prime. Both the Halo series and the LOTR series are from Prime and they're considered by most to be bad so I am wondering if this will follow suit.

Also the Yakuza fanbase has become absolutely unhinged and toxic in recent years. I imagine if it follows Yakuza mainly just by the main story, there's going to be people crying because their favourite substory isn't included, Kiryu didn't faceplant some woman's panties (optional player choice in Kiwami 2), Kiryu didn't spend a week in Carabet clubs hooking up with hostesses (I can see it now: "where is Rei?!"), Kiryu didn't get sexually assaulted by an old woman, Majima didn't do the funny meme thing or the show didn't confirm their gay ship fanfiction of two straight characters etc etc.

Either way, I don't think I'll enjoy the reactions to the show whether it's good or bad because these people will end up upset regardless I think.

Re: Not Much Is Known About PS5's Loulan Yet, But We Bet It'll Be a Soulslike

TruestoryYep

@NateTheBad It's because people are getting bored of Dark Souls clones that rip off the same exact combat.

I have no problem with the genre but developers should try to create their own actual combat system instead of copying Dark Souls to the letter. The only exception I've played has been The Surge series.

Nioh too technically but then I wouldn't consider that a Soulslike because it plays much more like an actual action game with combos but if people want to define it as one because of the death mechanic, it really stands on its own two feet simply because its combat is truly unique. So unique with its stance system that it inspired other games like Ghost of Tsushima.

All these other games though are just Dark Souls clones right down to having the exact same controls. Even attempting to copy the aesthetics, themes, writing and dialogue of the Souls games. At that point, you might as well just go play Dark Souls rather than an uninspiring rip off.

Re: Poll: Are You Sick of Soulslike Games?

TruestoryYep

@PuppetMaster You're right.

Even Black myth is being called a Soulslike even when it looks like the gameplay is completely different. For starters it has combos, then transformations like an action game but because there's a stamina bar (which seems to function more similarly to Monster Hunter) and big bosses, there's people calling it a Soulslike.

That's the thing. Souls didn't even invent those mechanics or even learning boss attack patterns. Monster Hunter had that from the very beginning and so did Castlevania games with the player having to learn boss attack patterns. Ninja Gaiden 3 too including the unblockable but counterable red attacks that everything thinks Sekiro did first but NG3 actually did.

The worst one though is seeing user tags on Steam calling the latest God of War a Soulslike.

I swear, some Soulslike fans haven't played much games. I picture them as some Bethesda fans where their whole library is Call of Duty, FIFA, Fortnite then maybe Skyrim or Fallout, so when they come across another open world game, they say "it is like Skyrim" because they don't realise there's other open world RPGs. I think that's how some Soulslike fans are. Some of them have only played CoD, FIFA and Fortnite next to Elden Ring, so when they finally try another action game, they call it a Soulslike because that's been their only exposure to the action genre.

Re: Poll: Are You Sick of Soulslike Games?

TruestoryYep

@YoureTooSlowBro

Likewise. I'm burnt out especially since most are clones of Dark Souls.

Black myth, I'm not sure that's even a Soulslike. It looks different and plays much different like a traditional action RPG so I'm looking forward to that.

All the other actual Soulslike games coming out look and play exactly like Dark Souls though. I fail to understand why some people can still enjoy them. If I want Dark Souls, I'll go play Dark Souls.

Re: German Dev Piranha Bytes Latest Studio to Close Under Embracer

TruestoryYep

@AverageGamer Agreed. Embracer is a terrible company that should never have been given the chance to own all these companies and IPs but Piranha Bytes closing is not a big deal as their games were bad.

I'm suprised it actually managed to survive this long in the first place given the poor quality of their games.

Re: Talking Point: What's Your PS5 Game of the Year for 2024 So Far?

TruestoryYep

@Enuo

Same, Dragon's Dogma 2 was a massive disappointment.

Shadow of the Erdtree, I have no intention of playing it as I'm burnt out on From Software's Souls formula. Unless it's done something completely new, I don't see why it would deserve GOTY. I don't think the main game even deserved that.

There's still plenty of games coming out this year too like Black Myth Wukong and Stalker 2. Either one of those will probably take GOTY at the awards.

Then again, who cares what award ceremonies say? People's GOTYs can be whatever they want them to be I guess.
