Re: Hideo Kojima's Dream of Breaking into Hollywood Is Nearly a Reality

Ryu_Niiyama

Good luck. But I don’t think it will pan out the way he wants. Most of his work either heavily lifts from movies he likes or is so convoluted that you can’t make a movie out of it. I pity the screenwriter that would have to adapt MGS. I don’t think he can write a movie that would be well received as a movie. Perhaps a video game adaptation but that would mostly draw his fans. But the rest of the movie going audience would likely bounce off it. Most video game plots go to either extreme. Either too sparse or too convoluted/nonsensical.

Re: Dragon Quest Veterans on Dealing with 'Ridiculous Country' USA Amid Censorship Row

Ryu_Niiyama

I am only annoyed by the type a/type b nonsense. The human species is sexually dimorphic and that is easily visible except in medical issues/genetic issues. I am still going to play whatever type is the female character.

As for bodily exposure I can’t take most of it seriously because most characters that are designed with half naked women and girls (as many male focused media love sexualizing the female body at young ages) are designed for boys and men to look at them sexually as opposed to a power fantasy which is why male characters are designed musclebound and (if) no shirt. Objectification vs (male) power fantasy. If I walk around with no shirt on I will get arrested (or harassed … likely both) if a man walks around with no shirt on, nothing happens at all. The last time I could do that I was a toddler. Female and male bodies are not treated the same. Full stop. (I have not heard of a place where they are treated exactly the same. If it exists someone tell me and I will move.) We have countries where women have to be covered from head to toe and can’t speak in public. With legal/criminal and physical repercussions if they aren’t. Until that goes away forever I can’t take any argument about “censorship “ seriously as it isn’t in good faith and it never will be.

Let women and girls tell you what we find to be a power fantasy or practical for our bodies and heroines.

Besides more folks should be annoyed by the localization than the lack of pixels they can oogle.

Re: Fans Appear to Be Coming Around to PS5 Pro

Ryu_Niiyama

It’s probably more the folks that were gonna buy it anyway are speaking up. There are plenty of people that just want the latest tech (and if they can afford it, more power to them) and will be there day 1. But there are many that will evaluate based on value. Personally since we are at a transition period for this gen (Nintendo will announce their new system this fiscal year, Sony putting out the Pro) it’s a good time for PC upgrades imo.

Re: Random: Xbox Boss Complains About X Button After Being Handed PS5 Pad

Ryu_Niiyama

It is annoying. I have all three major systems and have to readjust if I have been camping on one system for a bit. By the time I get out of the Zelda fog next year I won't know how to hold a dualshock. Especially since I game less on Sony because I don't like symmetrical joysticks. At least they all have similar button count now. Back when they were all pretty different was a nightmare.

Re: PS5's Ghost of Yotei Triggers Social Media, Ex-Sony Exec Says 'If You Don't Like It, Don't Buy It'

Ryu_Niiyama

Agreed. Everyone has to whine about a game now (and it's usually something to dehumanize others at that). Oh no there are women in it, Oh no we can't see breasts, oh no the girls aren't 14 years old in game, Oh no this woman character doesn't look like solo fun time material, Oh no the women can fight.

Seriously cavedude stuff. Just pick a game you like and buy it (and also go outside and touch grass). Not everything is made for you. I skip TONS of games due to disinterest. Still have more to play, than I can finish in a lifetime.

Either way, I am super excited for this game and will be preordering asap (hoping for a CE). Sony will likely get two sales out of me if they make a PC version.

Re: Rumour: PS6 Could Span a Console and Handheld Device

Ryu_Niiyama

@Yousef- pretty much multiple. For me PS is my exclusives box or if it won’t run on switch (and isn’t on xbox). I feel like right now there aren’t enough exclusives in play to account for various genres/user interests. For instance for me Horizon and Spiderman are the only Sony (exclusives) games I am playing (with Nioh and GoT also being favorites but are last gen). So as of right now that means that for me the PS “has no games”. (I am getting the Astro Bot demo though, hopefully I will enjoy).

I’m waiting on the system to pick up with more exclusives. I agree that this is years down the pipe but as a consumer that is concerning (as of right now I have no interest in the PS5pro or PS6 because the PS5 has under delivered). I think they should float smaller AA games to make their library more diverse. Like how Nintendo has made a Zelda game every year but they aren’t all huge mainline games but they span different genres. Sony has the IP catalog to put out more games if they would make them smaller or changed genres.

Edit: so the new Ghost game has pulled me back in. Well played Sony.

Re: Reaction: Why There Are So Many Unnecessary PS5 Remasters for Games That Don't Need Them

Ryu_Niiyama

Nintendo pulled forward a catalog that most Switch owners didn’t have access to, while adding to the games (Mario Kart 8 which still sells well had changes made that make it different from the original version and dlc that you can’t get on WiiU). They were never just pure remasters. Even still that was done while adding to their new game catalog. For several years Nintendo had a new game coming out monthly…as in from them. And that ratio has only slowed down slightly. So not quite the same situation.

Sony on the other hand I feel isn’t churning out games as fast internally, instead relying on third parties to float it (something Nintendo can’t afford to do although 3rd party support for them is at an all time high.)

Re: Sony Boss Says 'PCs Are Difficult to Set Up', Firm Will Focus on PS5

Ryu_Niiyama

After you wait 20 minutes to install the game you just bought (and hope there is no day 1 patch).

Only system that is mostly instantaneous is the switch. As most games can be booted from the cartridge as is and the UI is pretty much only there to get you to the games. I have a series x and a PS5 and I like them well enough but that long wait to get from purchase to play is why I game primarily on the Switch. Also the days of PC being difficult to get running are mostly over.

One can pitch the convenience of console without misrepresenting both consoles or PC.

Re: Assassin's Creed Shadows' Japan Looks Stunning in New Open World Showcase

Ryu_Niiyama

I am so ready for this game. I am at the point that AC is less about the story (which was why I played it originally) and more about the location and the playable characters. Gladly skipped playing Valhalla (still don’t have Mirage) and I am very much looking forward to Shadows. This might be my last AC as it is pretty much what I wanted if the story no longer matters but what a way to end things!

Re: Poll: Would You Buy PS5 Pro If It Was Cheaper?

Ryu_Niiyama

Not really. I have a PS5 with a disc drive and it works fine. I would only replace it if it broke. Or just do like I did when my xbone disc drive died and waited for the next system that was BC. So if I get another PS it will be the 6 ( at this point I think this is my last PS though. Way too much buyers remorse for me. Aside from GamePass I feel the same about Xbox right now so don’t @ me. )

Re: PS5 Pro Can Run PS4 Games Better Via Improved Backwards Compatibility

Ryu_Niiyama

@ButterySmooth30FPS but to a family with kids if they see 700 (probably 800 after the disk drive) they are gonna look at the price and pick up the cheaper system. If all one needs is good games to play then the cheaper option looks more attractive. Most consumers are not enthusiasts. And this sets the tone for the next Sony system. I would not be surprised at this point if the PS6 starts at 800. Consumers have been pulling back due to sticker shock.

Re: PS5 Pro Announced, Costs $700 and Out in November

Ryu_Niiyama

Bwhahahahaha! Sony you can keep that. I could use some more games though.

No disc drive too? Nah I will keep my PS5. That does make me wonder if Sony is done with built in disk drives. Ah well, I am heading back to PC next gen anyway. I am more excited for the Nintendo Switch successor now though.

Re: Ex-PlayStation Boss Reckons Axed Game Devs Should Just 'Drive an Uber'

Ryu_Niiyama

@McTwist what “normal” office job? Lay offs (not to mention firings, buyouts, bankruptcy the list goes on…) can happen anywhere (except maybe government jobs, downside is you may not get a raise in forever). Every employee is an expendable asset. That’s just how business works. Be it getting pushed out due to age, life change (many women endure this once pregnant), or just the regular downsizing/lay off cycle, no job is permanent. The fact that people forget that/get complacent are why if they don’t have a medical emergency/major asset loss (like house burns down) are why they are scrambling when things go bad. I always hope people can keep their job but I am never surprised if they don’t. Always hope for the best prepare for the worst. Always.

These things happen even if you are great at your job. Hence everything I said previously about being prepared. Imo the only really thing that can take you out of the game is if your health (physical and mental) suddenly tanks, or your living situation suddenly tanks to a level that you can’t function. As those impact your ability to be stable or go get another job.

Re: Ex-PlayStation Boss Reckons Axed Game Devs Should Just 'Drive an Uber'

Ryu_Niiyama

He worded it terribly but he is correct. Been a while since I checked the stats but the average adult in America changes jobs 7 time in their life (it’s probably higher now). The days of working at one company from graduation to retirement are long gone. (And have been for at least the entire Millennial generation and we are middle aged now). And in someways that is a good thing. Gen X/ Elder Millennials were latch key kids, because the mindset was live to work. When it should be work to save/invest/prepare so eventually you don’t live paycheck to paycheck.

The point is to have a portable skill set and to be fiscally responsible. Lay offs happen, but if you prepare they aren’t the end of the world. The problem is even people with high paying jobs live paycheck to paycheck because they don’t focus on getting fiscally stable first. Pay down the student loans, save and invest, live below your means, try to stay out of consumer debt (and pay it off asap if you do go into debt), drive your car till the doors fall off. It doesn’t look glamorous sure but once you stick that out until you are stable then you can weather life’s nonsense. (Find local inexpensive things to do to maintain your sanity and to enjoy life even when on a budget.) Then you can make it rain if you want to.

Get fiscally responsible, have an emergency fund (and keep stacking it when times are good) and don’t be afraid to work a different/lower paying job to maintain medical insurance (if American) and keep building skills and education. Stay in good health (which is way more important than a job) and try to maintain your home if you don’t rent (as in weather, fire, etc). So that and while bad things suck you can weather them.
