Music film still have a viable, long term market. Physical games do not.
End of story.
Let's look at my rather sizable home town. I can count 6 movie and music retailers, including a massive HMV, all selling a continuous stream of new releases from TV, film and music - not to mention a sizable back catalogue.
No, but you are choosing to ignore the fact that the brunt of games bought on PlayStation were digital - even by those who occasionally bought a game in a box.
Dance around it as much as you like, but there's no escaping that fact. Sony has the numbers and so are pulling the plug.
I, along with millions of others, continued to support physical media for music and film. Did millions of gamers do the same? No, they did not , clearly.
But go ahead, paint me as the bad guy for pointing out an uncomfortable truth. How very "gamer".
I'm perfectly chilled. I'm just amused, and somewhat bewildered, by how PlayStation gamers are reacting to Sony's decision to pull the rug from under physical games
Your brought it on yourselves. Seriously, what the f*ck did you think was going to happen? 🙄
No, it's much bigger. The boom in vinyl purchasing has gone beyond serious collectors. Younger generations have also caught the 'vinyl bug'
No, I'm sorry, this is purely a games industry problem... one that gamers are as much to blame as anything else. You had your chance, but the horse has long bolted. No point crying about it now.
No, Sony are not being tone deaf, they're reading the markets.
Physical music and film continues to thrive, in fact there's been a surge in the purchasing of music and film on physical formats.
Physical games, however, has seen a massive downturn. Now whose fault is that?
GoG is my main purchasing site. Used to be Steam and I do still use it, but GoG is king. No DRM, no launcher required, genuine ownership with offline installers, cheap.
That's the main difference between PC being all digital the last decade and consoles now reaching that point - choice. On console there is none.
One store front completely controlled by the platform holder with a take it or leave it policy.
That sucks and console gamers, I'm sorry to say, are soon to find out just how much.
And save the bleach. It's not strong enough to wash away the ignorance of others.
I imagine 360 games will also be part of the program at some point.
Consoles abandoning physical media has been on the cards for some time. I don't agree with it as I believe in choice, but as a PC gamer who was there when PC CDs went the way of the Dodo I knew it was only a matter of time before game consoles reached this point.
The sad part? All you digital cheerleaders out there helped it come to this. Sacrificing ownership and control of the products you buy for the sake of convenience.
Been there, done that, had time to regret it long term - and so will you.

Video game stores: CEX. A second hand shop
Case closed.

But it's everyone else's fault, amirite?

Yeah, because I guarantee, for all their talk, the brunt of their game buying was digital and/or subscription based.
Again, gamers need to take some responsibility for this outcome, but you won't. As per usual it's everyone else's fault.

The industry push itself to digital, not the consumer
And the consumer could have chosen to vote with their wallet - but you didn't.
Take some responsibility.
But it's typical of gamers to blame everybody else, so I'm not surprised.

I'm not crying
Plenty are and as I see it they have no right to.
Gamers wanted this.
To coin a phrase, you get what you ask for.

And the again given your chosen headline -

You buy vinyl records - which has seen a huge surge.
Now, you're either deliberately trolling or really are that stupid. Which is it?
Re: 'The Way It Was Meant to Be Heard': Tone-Deaf Sony Pushes Vinyl Turntable After Killing Physical Games
That's because there's still a huge market for physical music. I buy new vinyl and CDs every month.
It's the same for film.
Both these medium options will continue long after Sony pull the plug on physical games.

Another example of why I love games, but generally cannot stand gamers.
Sony still suck a big one though. The way they've handled this entire situation, which they created, is beyond contemptible.

It's not a rumour, it's from the horse's mouth.
