@ShogunRok Looking at the embargo date I've got Wednesday 30th 7:00am GMT/ 8:00am BST/ 09:00 CEST & you seem to be the only review out on the net.
If I'm wrong & sites are given different dates then I hold my hands up, just seems a little off that NIS would say different dates to different websites.
Such a strange and yet not unexpected review. Seemed to lose marks for graphics and not having Street Fighter characters in? Graphics I can see it's not as visually impressive as SF V or GG XRD but I don't remember GG losing points for not having a roster as instantly recognizable as Ryu or Chun Li. Also noticed moaning about how "generic" the mid boss looked which seems a little redundant in a genre built up with generic stereotypes and "Ninja" based characters.
Also I'd compare SF more to Fatal Fury than KoF or even at a stretch Art of Fighting but that's just me being a raving SNK fanboy
@sub12 I think for me it was this direct quote which got my back up "while we don't expect the core combat to be anywhere near as good". As you've already stated the graphics won't be as good as XIII or even XII because it's a totally new system and with XII they aimed at 20 chars and expanded further with XIII.
I really enjoyed what I played of SFV initially but I was soon back playing KoF '98 & Garou because I enjoyed the systems they used much more than what V had on offer. Might be slightly more biased nowadays to SNK but bar the barren stages in KoF 14 I think it has everything going for it to recreate the glory of '98.
@sub12 I'm all for adding you're own personal touches onto articles but the way the article comes across is very much opinion over news. Also I understand this is Sammy's article but the term "we" is used on numerous occasions alluding to the site as a whole with the opinion.
Maybe i'm just extra cranky today or my SNK side is seeping out everywhere but I feel it's not getting it's fair share through this news article and that speaks volumes to me.
This article has pretty much turned me off this site. It's like an opinion piece wrapped in the cloak of news. Yes it doesn't look as visually stunning as SFV but SFV looks all kinds of bland and clunky compared to the likes of Guilty Gear Xrd -Revelator-.
KoF has never really been much of a looker when stacked up to the Capcom crowd but i've always found the core systems to be better and more enjoyable despite being an original SF Fan boy. I guess it's just a case of apples and oranges for some people but I firmly believe KoF 14 will be a much better game than SFV, certainly at it's launch and if SNK support 14 going forward I think Capcom will lose quite a few to the series as word gets out.
Final point of this little rant is i'd be incredibly dubious about reading a review for KoF 14 now from this site due to this obvious bias towards the series.
Been sampling the demo from the JPN Store and honestly was more than underwhelmed. It just seemed like a retooled J-Stars Versus + which anyone who's played would agree didn't have the best shelf life and was highly repetitive. Think in terms of anime games JoJo Eyes of Heaven will be the one for me this year!
@sinalefa I get what you mean!. Seth was quite a strange one as he had quite an interesting story in the Street Fighter IV film (which can be found on YouTube with it's terrible dub) but they quickly just brushed him aside as another way of Bison maintaining his Psycho Power.
My prediction for the story is Necali is going to "Kill" Bison hence his exclusion from SFIII and that his power is going to be based on Psycho Power/Satsu No Hadou which will no doubt bring Akuma into V possibly as a surprise character announced at EVO.
@sinalefa Sorry had to geek at this. There may be a slight chance Necali comes from the same tribe as Gil & Urien but it's doubtful with his story mode intro and the Gil/Urien backstory from 3 which was expanded on in one of the Street Fighter UDON comics, Urien is involved in the story as seen in the Life & Death of Charlie Nash comic so chance is he will be last boss but I think Necali will more the likely be Akuma's newest rival.
I began writing about this for my website yesterday but I honestly believe Capcom had this planned out. The arcade mode will drop after the Story DLC in the June, it's all tied to this "narrative" they have going but also works in their favor where they can play "Good guy Capcom" who have heard people asking for an obvious exclusion and are striving to update the game as such.
I like Street Fighter V, it's been my least favourite of the series for a while but i'll still support the game even if Capcom are perfoming some dirty tactics to extend the life of the game at a base level and try to con people into thinking they are doing everything for the fans.
I have noticed not many stores actually stocked Gravity Rush compared to Naruto, I work in a game store and actually had to get a friend to purchase me Gravity Rush from his local GAME store and that was apparently stocked with only a few copies of the title which is a shame. Hopefully the stock shortage is dealt with and more people can experience Gravity Rush.
@Neolit Will warn you for the first section of the story the cast isn't the most likable but it soon picks up & after it time skips to his teen years it certainly pays off!
@Neolit You could always choose the read the manga route, I find due to traveling to work back and forth on the bus I easily polish off a good 50 issues p/week then extra in my free time. I'v just hit the 500's now and it really is a gripping read at times.
Alternatively they are releasing a collection of the old games on Ps3 so if you picked that up and played every story mode you'd have the core story nailed down.
I'v been playing Kiwami over the weekend and even as die hard fan of the series I think if it boiled down to it i'd rather see 6 over Kiwami release over here and say as Ps2 to Ps4 port of 1 and 2.
After playing tonnes of 0, Kiwami just feels very restricted and if i'm honest rough. The main story is shot for shot remake for the most part and as such so is Kamurocho so you don't get the rooftops, sewers, underground mall or naturally the building works up north. It's taken the combat from 0 which is great but in ways it seems like they actually stepped back in not only features but visuals.
Interested in seeing 5 Star Wrestling Re:Genesis to see if they have actually bothered to work on it from the appalling PS3 version. Something doesn't sit right when the game has no info and the previous version only had 8 Wrestlers
This game for me originally started as "Meh not a Digimon fan" the more I see the more I need this game! Currently letter slot watching for the review copy to arrive so I can settle in with it! Even going as far as researching Digimon which is something my younger self would of disapproved alot with before diving back into Pokemon Silver
Couldn't agree more on any list that has Witcher 3 on the top of it. For me it came at a time when I was disillusioned with open world games and western RPGs, Dragon Age didn't hit the spots I wanted it to yet this game utterly smashed it. I'd previously played both Witcher 1 and 2 before and went into this the same way as I did them, no knowledge & no prior hype. It's now January and i'm still exploring it, got Heart of Stone still to play through and I'v actually tracked down some of the novels to further my enjoyment.
After Witcher 2 I always felt this was the western RPG series for me, 3 just confirmed it and i'll sing it's praises to anyone who'll listen! Bring on Blood & Wine!.
I'm currently still plodding through The Witcher 3, just redeemed my DLC code so hoping to have the main story finished off this month. Xenoblade Chronicles X on the WiiU & Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon on my 3DS (via original DS cart) are currently my major time sinks.
Also reading alot lately as i'v just started picking up The Witcher novels, highly recommend for anyone who loves the games.
Looks a little too much like J Stars Vs + for me which isn't good, unbalanced, repetitive and generally ick fighter with stunning visuals. For the love of Chopper prove me wrong Spike Chunsoft
I can only hope Sega actually bother bringing this over, doubting we will see 0 now which is a shame as I really enjoy the import but speak no Japanese
Been looking around very briefly trying to avoid spoilers but I figured maybe you would know this.
If I finish the main storyline, can I then go back and mop up the remaining quests?, working in a video game store it's often rife with loose lips and as one of my most anticipated titles in years I'd hate for someone to just casually ruin the narrative while I'm busy hunting.
As someone who enjoyed Duke Nukem Forever, Serious Sam 3, Rise of The Triad & now enjoying the hell out of this I have to disagree with this.
Not the worst review I have read for the game but it seems like going in you expected some AAA master class & not the 90s budget flashback it's being published as. My advice to any fans of the older style shooters is you can't go far wrong with this one, enjoying the stuffing out of it even more so than the recent Painkiller remake.
@ShogunRok Just a quick one, I tend to only really play these games now with my friend online & so far there have always been daft hoops to jump through for online co op (Gundam Reborn no campaign co op & have to finish the entire side story set, Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate actually broke my save meaning I couldn't progress past the initial 3 missions).
Just wondering if it's the same deal or just that my friend can jump onto my campaign and work through it with me.
Still enjoying Risen but it's had to take a backseat due to me being sent the new Hyperdimension & Disgaea 4 on vita to review. Wouldn't be so bad but iv also gotten Diablo 3 early on Ps4 too many titles, especially with me having none last month so I cleared some backlog
@Fire-and-Water As a fan of Tenchu, Shinobido both on Ps2 and Vita & the WOTS series I would hardly say they were horrible. They have also recently developed Mind Zero which came out to decent sales and a mixed bag of reviews.
Saying this I don't expect a reply as you "Hate" people who like something other than the norm & everything we represent
I have bought and loved every single Tomb Raider game day 1, the reboot i'v bought twice though i'm yet to delve into my Ps4 just yet, so yeah i'm fairly let down by this.
Thinking more about it though it worries me for the future of SE, this has such a large risk of tanking badly and as such could effect games down the line I.E the next Deus Ex or Hitman. If they don't feel they can gamble on one of their biggest western titles due to lack of sales (On their head be it) then I would imagine the confidence of the already battered studio will plummet further
Ok Sony, since MS have done this now is the time to unleash the Shenmue bomb. If you want to follow up with a partnership with Sega for Western Yakuza publishing aswell to sweeten the pot I think you'll be fine
I believe it's having issues at the moment online. I spent 25 mins trying to connect to a game last night, it's a shame as what i'v managed to play the past couple of days I really enjoyed
As bad as Dead Souls is I have found myself enjoying it at points. Poor show for SEGA to base the series future off the spin off that was poorly received in Japan aswell rather than the fairly successful Yakuza 4
