@TechaNinja HDMI 2.0 is capable of 1080p/144. HDMI 2.0 can actually do 4k/60fps. It won't be doing HDR like that though. 2.0 only goes up to 18Gb per second.
@MemSec The framerate the game is running it defines how often it'll accept inputs in that second. So lets say your sensitivity is set at 7 at 60fps. at 120fps you'd have to set it at 3.5 for the exact same sensitivity settings or you'll be turning twice as fast. At higher framerates, you can have more precise/accurate choice of movement. Even if you don't see or feel a difference initially, it is there. Its way easier on the eyes too.
@SilkySmile89 to say PC games don't have optimization is absurd.
thats all down to how the devs optimize for the hardware.
tl;dr - have a little faith.
The hardware being used is 3xxx ryzen CPU line in the consoles, which is currently being succeeded by the unreleased ryzen 4xxx cpu line.
That makes the processor, in ps5 and xsx/s already outdated in hardware terms but not in usability. Its new but no longer bleeding edge.
That CPU line has already been out for a year and most developers are actually very familiar with that architecture now. CPU optimization won't be an issue.
Navi2 will be though but its probably not too far off from Navi.
Consoles ARE PCs. The parts are somewhat customized to work specifically as the company designed it to interact with the other parts on the motherboard and designed to use as little power as possible while squeezing as much as it can from the hardware without too much of a performance loss. So yes, its slightly gutted, but all things considering, most ryzen cpus run off the 65TDP requirement to begin with so the CPU still isn't hit that hard.
its still just hardware, no different than a PC. If any OS had code to run on that specific hardware, it will. Don't misinterpret that.
I've been using a gen 1 ryzen for 3 years now, and no game even comes close to maxing out this CPU. Which is actually nuts.
edit: i also play at 144+fps so that puts even more strain on the hardware at 2K resolution.
this means i'm entirely gpu bound.
@Leon_93 the internet has no idea what they're talking about 80% of the time.
As someone who builds PCs myself, i'll just tell you myself that the hardware thats in both the PS5 and the XSX are literally around the mid range of a high end PC. the XSS is at the lower end of a High end PC.
They are literally stronger than about 50% of the PC base on steam in many regards. Only 8% of steam users even have 8 core processors. Lets not even get started on the GPUs. Less than 3% of the PC base is using an nvidia 2XXX series card. The most common card is a GTX 1060 which is made for 1080p superior gaming and can run 2K fine at best. Its outside the realm of 4K.
The hardware in the consoles at $500 is a literal steal at the power they have. If they can't do 4k/60 native, it'd be very close at them not reaching that target, it'd be unnoticable.

Re: PS5's Limited SSD Storage Space Cannot Be Upgraded at Launch
Wow...people that don't have internet that want to expand their storage are gonna be SoL when it does get the update to allow it.
Thats just seriously bad.

Re: Final Fantasy VII Remake Patch 1.01 Out Now on PS4, First Update Since Launch

Re: Poll: Has Xbox's Bethesda Buyout Made You Reconsider a PS5 Purchase?
Was never interested in Bethesda games to begin with.

Re: PS5 Game Install Sizes Revealed, And They're Enormous
thats actually somewhat smaller than i was expecting considering the average of most games nowadays is substantially larger than that.
