I was also more making the point they used a horrible shot, not on original hardware to show the original version which is going to distort how the original version looked
@Runex2121 well I still have a pvm and a consumer grade crt in my game room. I replayed 7 this summer on the consumer grade with hd retrovision cables and I can tell you it is close. But to each there own
Unfortunate they decided not to show the original on original hardware. This is decieving by Square. Add scanlines even from a consumer grade CRT and that original probably looks almost as good as the remake.
@DreadfulDragon couldn't agree with you more on this one. Anyone that's every made a Contra clone needs to be sued into oblivion, anyone that has every used Akira Toriyama style characters in a game should be sued into oblivion cause lord knows no one ever copied Dragon Quest or Dragonball art or mechanics over the years.
Was super pumped about this game earlier in the year and even moreso after finding out it played more like Doom 2016 than eternal. Then I found out the physical is not really a physical. I will buy when there is a proper physical or not at all. I've already sent my feedback to the developer as well. I will not pay the same inflation adjusted for a game today that comes with no map, no artbook/manual no way to resell or display as I did in 1990. They can turn off when they see fit. People letting themselves be ripped off to save space is bonkers. Want to save space sell when finished use that half you recovered to buy more.
I am more interested to see if this will work on my Brook dongle on the ps2. If it does then I could use my ps5 controller on all my PlayStations without having to pair every time.
@Foxhound I did this very thing at the beginning of this year and have not regretted it one bit. Problem one backlog was getting so large I would never be able to complete and I'm only mid 40's. Problem two, I refuse to give into corporate greed and refuse to go digital. So I decided to go back and only do ps4 and have been concentrating on retro. So many games I missed as a kid and teen. Finally beat Chrono Trigger, and beat a bunch of NES games. I get physicals and manuals and maps all for about 80 dollars and if I don't like I can sell. I do not mind games being 80 dollars actually that's what they should be compared to 1980's prices. What I refuse to give into is paying 80 to get less.
@Godot25 My Atari still works from 1980. I along with many other people also fix broken consoles and sell refurbished ones on Ebay I do not think that will be a problem. My son is 27 and comes to me for suggestions all the time about things he should play on SNES as he got into retro gaming last summer. I just hand him my copy of the game. While he could very easily emulate it and I am all for emulation the nostalgia I am able to share with my son hits different and that was my whole point of my post. I have things to pass on. Hard to pass on a digital copy and have the same feels.
@Godot25 Imagine 20-25 years from now you have a son or daughter that has really gotten into video games and comes to you and says any suggestions on a really good rpg? You them about this game but sandfall got bought out years earlier and the ps5 store has been closed. Sorry kid out of luck. Now same scenario with my kid I reach up on the shelf and hand the kid the copy. It leads to a great father-child conversation about the art on the cover and I explain the mechanics of the game. But imagine not having a physical copy of games in the future.
Currently playing PS5 Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom (harder than I thought) Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge PS4 Tetris Effect Streets of Rage 4 PS2 via my new to me crt Devil May Cry 3
As someone who just got into this series about 6 months ago this double pack is perfect! I started at TOC 1 as I do not have access to the Skies series. Here in the states the PS4 versions of 1 & 2 are ridiculously priced so had to buy the physical from PAL area and 3 & 4 go for full price used. So having this as a double pack even with only slight upgrades is a god send! Think I will finish 2 then hit the Crossbell arch then onto these.
My bigger concern with digital that no one seems to talk about is how you are letting yourself get ripped off. Even if you want the convenience of a digital library we as gamers could force that if we would demand it. I get inflation, I get games are technically cheaper now at 70 than they were at 30 in the 90's here in the states. But games going to 70 dollars while dropping the middle man, dropping the manual, dropping production cost and not having to compete with second hand market is the corporations totally sticking it to this generation. You are paying more for less. If you buy FF 16 and its just not your thing and you bought it digitally you screwed yourself and Square loves you for it. If like 15 years ago you bought that game and it just wasn't your thing you could immediately sell it and make 75 to 90 percent of your money back. I argue with my son about this all the time, drives me nuts. What we should be doing is telling these companies "hey you cut out my manual to save money so throw in a digital copy of the game and tie the disk to a digital key". In this way I could yes sell disk but the digital copy would be burned. We are so letting ourselves get raked over the coals I just do not get it. Me personally being 40 understand the value of nostalgia and these younger kids 30 years from now cannot pull out a digital code and let their kids look at it or pass it on either. SMH

I hate to burst everyone's bubble here but this has already been disproven over here in the states. We have a youtuber that goes by Spawnwave that did a good video on how this patent is to correct an issue with wobbling in the disk drive. If you look at the patent notes at the very bottom it points all of this out. The confusion and why everyone thinks this is the detachable drive is because it is called MOUNTABLE in the patent. The problem is any drive that can be removed from a system is mountable.
The game is still not working for me. Every time I try to get back into it it says "can't play because your playstation plus subscription needs to be upgraded". I have premuim tier so that is wrong. Any suggestions? Also I have tried restarting the console that did nothing.
So excited for this game and first time ever funding a kickstarter! Do not mind having to wait till 2025 if it is worth it. Pumped I was able to put my kids name in the credits of one of my favorite childhood series!
@AstraeaV and how do you know this? I know they said they were tweaking the combat but nowhere have I seen it will be an action RPG. Sources? I also stand by my original statement if they go full action they will lose and flop on the mainline series. Most will just stick to FF.
@AstraeaV I couldn't disagree more. The reason most people in the west like Dragon Quest is because it sticks to turn based. While you are for sure in the majority that prefer action RPG those of us few who buy Dragon Quest do so because it is more strategic. Not boring. DQ 11 is anything but boring once you learn how to combine players who are in psyched up mode and combine to do thousands in damage. Slow yes, but a lot of us prefer that. You think it's boring you can't hack and slash your way to victory in every game. If I wanted that type of RPG I would buy Final Fantasy. If Dragon Quest turns action I along with a lot of others will be out. Would kill the franchise cause I would just buy Final Fantasy at that point that has much more experience in that type of RPG. Square is making a huge mistake here in my opinion. I'm not knocking you at all. But don't knock others by calling a game or style you don't like boring. Say it's not your personal cup of tea
So much whining on both sides but I have to go with Xbox here and I love PlayStation. This is just new console war. If Sony doesn't like it stop wasting your time complaining, dig in, and go create a new FPS IP that people can't live without.
For all those that leave comments like "who cares about classics or retro games" or similar sentiments, you are being extremely self absorbed. Just because you can't handle or don't like the graphics doesn't mean there aren't just as many that are ok with it. Me personally I want to replay my entire childhood and have the platinum to brag about them. Which a lot of the classics being added have trophy support. I would love to have a platinum for every Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy through X personally. As well as many other RPG's from PS1 and PS2 as well.
