@Medic_alert Phones can emulate the PS2 no problem. Emulating it on a PC is light. The PS5 is similar to a 6600XT or 6700. Either of those have more than enough power to emulate an ancient PS2 in 8k. Hell with Sony's in house emulation code it would be more efficient than other x86 PS2 emulators out there.
@Member_the_game Yeah, since they both have HDMI 2.1, and their GPUs will be capable of scaling to 8k. Weird that they don't just enable it. The GPU scaler will be quicker the the TV chipset scaling a 4k image to 8k in most cases.
@TrickyDicky99 For an uncompressed video stream, sure. It would only do 8k30. That's what DSC is for, which the PS5's HDMI 2.1 is capable of. It could output 8k60 no problem. They just haven't bothered to release an update enabling it.
@Member_the_game Because they're misrepresenting customers. Regulations exist for a reason. If you're gonna put it on the box then it should be able to do it. Not some time down the line maybe, or not at all.
Hell there probably are a few folks out there who saw that and thought they'd be able to view 8k content on youtube or amazon video, only to discover it can't even have the output set higher than 4k.
@Medic_alert It could do the second, just only on basic looking games. Hell it could run PS2 games in 8k. And there is a game on the PS5 that runs in 8k internally.
I imagine most people seeing it on the box thought it was for media streaming apps to watch 8k videos.
@Member_the_game People not buying it for that purpose is irrelevant. I don't own an 8k TV, and I have no intention of getting one. It's a feature I would never use, never the less they put on the box that it has it. It doesn't.
People can keep saying ohhh they could enable it. Yeah. But they haven't. In 3.5 years they haven't. For 3.5 years they've been showing it has a feature on the box that it doesn't. It's a deception regardless of how many would make use of it.
@twitchtvpat But the point being the box advertised it as being capable. I can't take my car to 150, I can only go 70-80. But it should still be capable of it if that's what they advertised.
They advertised a feature it doesn't have. Doesn't matter if you intended on using it or not.
@twitchtvpat Owning an 8k tv is irrelevant. They advertised a feature on the box that it doesn't have. That should not be allowed.
Maybe the box should show the picture of the console with 2 controllers, even though it comes with one. They can just say you can go buy a second controller.
@thefourfoldroot1 But the point is they didn't. The box said it. It doesn't do it. They could have enabled it for media at least. Or simply so the GPU does the scaling instead of the TV scaling the 4k input to its 8k screen.
But they didn't. They advertised something it doesn't do. There's even a game that internally renders in 8k, but it's then supersampled down to 4k by the GPU since no 8k output is supported.
@thefourfoldroot1 It can't do 8k though. 3.5 years later and they've never released an update to enable it. Max you can set it to is 4k120. The 8k on the box is simply a lie.
@Member_the_game No one using it is irrelevant. They were advertising a feature that it doesn't have. My car said its top speed in 150mph. I'm never gonna do that, but I'm pretty sure if it turned out it can only do 75 max and the 150 was a lie, there would be trouble. Legal trouble.
Also blast processing was actually real. But no game used it. All it did was increase colour depth. Kinda like 8bit + frc to achieve fake 10bit colour.
@dskatter Ok, connect it to an 8k tv and set the output to 4320p... Oh, what's that? You can't? The system isn't capable of outputting an 8k signal, 3.5 years after they started selling it with 8k advertised on the box? Well I'm sure this must be a mistake and we should all rush to defend the company for lying.
I pretty much gave up on Genshin a while back. Grinding for upgrade materials to level up chars is slow and boring. And the story quests are often veeeery slow and boring. At least with Star Rail you can use autobattle for grinding materials.

@twitchtvpat Of course it's deception. Me not using the feature doesn't mean it's ok to advertise it being there when it isn't.
Can't fathom why you're all so desperate to defend some big company.

Still. Sony lied.

@pumpkin_head Not wanting to be lied to when buying a product it moaning for the sake of moaning?
Re: PS5 Packaging No Longer Mentions 8K, Some Fans Accuse Sony of False Advertising
@TrickyDicky99 Wat? It could if they bothered to enable it. It has an HDMI 2.1 connection. That can do 8k60. Hell, that's how it does 4k120.

@Member_the_game It was advertising a feature it doesn't have. Literally false advertising.
