As announced moments ago, base PS5 hardware is getting a big update, with the introduction of QSSR – a simplified version of Sony’s proprietary upscaler, better known as PSSR.

And one of the first games to take advantage of the feature is Marvel’s Wolverine, enabled by default with v1.002, available now.

The full patch notes, as released by Insomniac, are as follows:

  • Uses QSSR on PS5, on by default
  • Fixes various UI, Photo Mode, Out-of-Bounds, and Visual polish issues
  • Addresses some progression issues and crashes experienced by a small percentage of players
  • Fixes Accessibility issues with Navigation Assist, Lock-On, High Contrast, and Screen Reader behavior
  • Addresses several localisation issues across supported languages

You can see how QSSR improves the base PS5 console’s image quality in the comparison embedded above.

In its hands-on report, Digital Foundry describes the improvements as “exceptional” in Insomniac’s action game.

Ghost of Yotei is the other title currently updated to support QSSR, available alongside its Complete Edition, which we reviewed moments ago through here.

Moving forward, the tech will be available to all first-party and third-party devs, and you can read much more about it in this article.
