GTA 6 Confirmed to Be an $80 Game

Well is anyone here going to be surprised

I don’t think it would have made much of a difference what Rockstar decided to sell this game at, it will sell gargantuan amounts, but this is a fair price for sure. It also stops other companies selling games at higher prices should Rockstar of sold at £$100 because if it had been that price, it would definitely have opened more developers going for a higher price point. Thankfully that isn’t the case!

GTA 6 being $80 is not bad.

80 bucks is reasonable for a game of this magnitude. If the rest of the market thinks it can follow this practice they’ll get a rude awakening.

I mean it really is the only game that justifies that price tag with a rumor budget of 2 billion. Alot more deserving than Mario kart world.

I personally don't think the price is bad, especially if it's £70-75 in the UK. Most games release at £64.99 so it's only a maximum of 10 more, for a game we've waited for for many years.

What i am more frustrated about is that they're locking whole shops behind the ultimate edition. I get additional skins and vehicles being extra, but the ability to change your hairstyles, tattoos etc is ridiculous

Yh tbh if anyone can charge 80 for a game, its GTA. Im not surprised considering the industry n yrs in dev it took. Plus there be yrs worth of online content so theres value. Im not in a rush, i want it for the campaign only, ill wait for sale down the line.

The precedent was set by 10hr games charging $70 so GTA6 charging this is not surprising.

$80 and the physical copy only have download code. Welp...this is another bad example after Nintendo charged $80 for Mario Kart.

I honestly thought they'd go on the cheap end (£60-£70 tops) to guarantee a massive launch that breaks through to mainstream media and the casuals, get the punters in in numbers to sell them Shark Cards, and as a price that can much more readily be justified by the casuals that still need to buy a current gen console to play it on when they go and get the sticker shock from the price of those.
I'm sure they've done the maths and figured out that £80 still gets them all this anyway.
No shade intended by "casual", I just mean the type of person not like us who browse gaming news several times a day.
Edit: I won't be paying £80 for it at launch, I guarantee you that. I'll wait for a sale and reviews.

I see a lot of folks bringing up Mario Kart World, but I would just point out that most people only paid $50 for MKW digital console package.

This doesn't have a $50 console bundle that I am currently aware of.

If a new Martin Scorsese film is coming out, I don't need to touch my chin with my finger and say 'hmmm, I'll wait for the reviews to see if it's any good or not.'

People always rag on about the times they've been burnt by a game, but I think it's nearly always evident in the trailers and pre-release footage if a game will be good. Other times I have no sympathy for people. A new Ubisoft or EA game launched completely broken and wasn't very good anyway when it was fixed 3 months later? Allow me to pull out the worlds smallest violin for you.

I've never been burnt once in my 12 years of buying games at full price. I think part of being a fan, the fun of being a fan, is showing up when it counts. If you can't allow yourself that I think you're just robbing yourself of life.

I can't believe it, but I will probably buy the ultimate Edition.

As much as I love MK, World was not worth that amount. Glad I got it in the bundle with the SW2.

On the other hand there were some really long and tedious parts of V, and I'm personally not interested in online. So either way, with that and the pay walled "full access", alomg with code in a box; it's a sale purchase for me, unless I find a good deal on PSN credit.

Won't affect me, and won't affect R*'s bottom line at the end of the day with how many units they'll shift. Everyone is happy.

Really grim future ahead. $80 game that's a code in box and puts you into an auto-renewal subscription (GTA+) which will trick lots of unsuspecting players.

All while other companies choose to copy Rockstar because GTA6 will no doubt sell insanely well.

@Boxmonkey - Agreed! If anyone complains on the price they can wait for the PS6 re-release in 2030 for $69.99 😆. A game this big, detailed and costing a significant amount to create needs to recoup that investment.

The game isn’t my cup of tea (thanks largely to the multiplayer not being segregated from the main game’s trophy list, thereby forcing trophy hunters to play that too for the Platinum+100%) but for the amount and quality of content that’ll be here, $80 seems fair. Those interested will be playing this for years to come so viewed though that lens the price is reasonable. It’s more concerning whether other publishers will try to charge the same for games which aren’t anywhere near the quality of R*’s title.

I can also confirm I won't be paying 80€ for this, however great it end up being. It'll be half price soon enough and maybe we'll get a real physical version in the future.

@ColtyRozz we don't know what the ultimate edition includes, but it is likely just cosmetics and currency so no loss there.

I only buy a select few games at full retail. This will be one. But thanks to my PS credit card points, I will pay $20 for the ultimate edition.

It's actually a real benefit to play most games 2-3 years after launch. I'm about to finish Ragnarok for the first time and then can move on to other older games that are new to me and were either free, or heavily discounted.

They only showed cutscenes not gameplay. But you do you if you trully believe this game will be good just based on cutscenes.

The PS Store page is live in Australia. $130 and $160, including tax. Which is funny because $70 Sony games were already $125.

No game should be 80. Whether it is GTA 6 or Mario Kart World, it shouldn’t be 80 dollars.

And for the record, I bought MKW for 50.

And the fact that it is 80 USD for a code in the box just makes this worse.

I just confirmed I will wait for this game to go on sale. I'm not spending $80 on a video game.

As for Mario Kart World being $80 ... you can spend $50 for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe which is a superior game.

It sidelines the thousands of people that have worked on previous Rockstar games who are carrying over into this one. People do the same with Hideo Kojima and Metal Gear. Overlooking the incredible team that had so many of the same staff members up until 5.

I also don't have to justify anything about The Definitive Trilogy as I never bought it because I thought it looked bad judging by the trailers, and behold, it was. Rockstar wasn't even the developer of that. It's a blemish on their reputation definitely. But when none of the talent behind the doors touched it, I'm not sure what I need to be worried about.

And I understand what we've seen isn't a gameplay demo, but it even says in the trailer "was captured entirely in-game from a PlayStation 5, comprised of equal parts gameplay and cutscenes." We're far from the seventh generation days of cutscenes being pre-rendered and the gameplay being a choppy sub twenty fps mess.

We can argue about if the game will be a 9 or a 10 or even an 8 in the reviews, sure, these are realities. I'm not sure how it could turn out to be some sort of 4 or a 5 given what the trailer actually shows.

For those upset by the price: just don't buy it. It will eventually go on sale. Personally, I haven't paid more than $50 for a game in years. You're playing right into corporate hands by purchasing these games at full price. At this point, the current structure needs to collapse in order for the suits to understand that they're responsible

Personally, given how much content will be in the game (the shop stuff is BS I will say) and how long it'll last, if sny game deserves or makes sense to be 80, it's GTA 6. With that said, my hope is that other devs dont try and price their games at 80 because they think they can get away with it. Because now, when a dev charges 80 bucks, a consumer will expect GTA 6 levels of content and quality. Hopefully that doesn't happen...

I never say Dan is the only reason R* got their success. But Dan was R* main creative lead for GTA, RDR, Bully, and Midnight Club for decades. He's also the guy who supervised R* games. So again, excuse me if i'm skeptical that the current R* will knock this game out of the park.

And people wasn't wrong because right after Kojima left, the "incredible team" you're talking about or what's left of old Kojima Pro can only made Metal Gear Survive and it was a total garbage.

Heck, Konami can't even do a proper collection and remake with MGS Master Collection vol 1 and MG Delta has so many bugs and technical error.

R* was still the publisher for Trilogy DE and they let that garbage released when they should do a proper Q&A and delayed the release to fix all the broken sh*ts.

It looks like in Europe is still 80€, weird that the price was increased only in US and other regions , pre-orders already up in Greece store and shows 80€

$80 is ridiculous - the game won't be that different from its predecessors, won't be innovative in its game-play loop and I doubt it will offer significantly 'more' to justify the cost - i fact it seems to offer 'less' with just a code in a box and no GTAO either.

The fact that they have likely chosen to spend so much more time ad money on just 'graphics', just the way the game 'looks' - which you should expect to have improved with better and more powerful hardware- shouldn't give them the right to charge more. Its like upgrading the packaging to look more impressive but the 'game-play' loop, story etc will feel like older games in a lot of ways. For $80, I can buy 4 or more AAA games now on sale that also offer a LOT of potential hours worth of entertainment and not paying the 'premium' just to play it at/near launch - each to their own of course, but no game is worth paying that much and most games will drop in price quickly too anyway...

I hope someone can explain to me why everyone goes on with this incredibly silly notion that "if any game deserves to be X price, it's GTA VI".

But why?
What have they shown or told us? Nothing.
Will it be a revolutionary game? Absolutely not.
It'll still be the usual, trite and outdated Rockstar game that plays like a plank of wood and restricts you in every way possible.
It'll just be incredibly pretty, but spending all the time and money in the world doesn't give you the right to up your prices.
