GTA 6 Delay Ghost of Yotei

The big Grand Theft Auto 6 delay of May 2025 will have caused countless developers to breathe a heavy sigh of relief. Rockstar's ridiculously anticipated open worlder was pushed into May of 2026, leaving the rest of this year relatively open.

Indeed, the threat of GTA 6 was so great that even Sony's own PlayStation Studios were sweating. Sucker Punch, the first-party team behind Ghost of Yotei, probably would have gone toe-to-toe with GTA 6 had the initial 2025 launch stuck.

The Ghost of Tsushima sequel is due out on the 2nd October, and director Nate Fox admits that upon hearing about the GTA 6 delay, the developer basically celebrated.

"We're all still hungover, multi-month hangover," he jokes, in a new quickfire interview with MinnMax (thanks GamesRadar). "That was a great day."

Of course, Ghost of Tsushima is a blockbuster itself, having sold over 13 million copies since its initial PS4 launch in 2020. Yotei will be expected to hit similar numbers over the coming years.

But it just goes to show how much of a colossus Grand Theft Auto really is, when a AAA outfit like Sucker Punch is over the moon to avoid its blast radius. Needless to say, publishers will be steering well clear of May next year.

Do you think Ghost of Yotei would have somehow survived going up against GTA 6 this year? Wipe that sweat off your brow in the comments section below.
