Whether you’re enjoying Cyberpunk 2077 or not, there’s no question the role-playing game’s launch could have gone better. While the title’s reasonably playable on next-gen consoles like the PlayStation 5, it’s sub-par on a PS4 Pro and borderline unplayable on a standard PS4. Considering the release was originally scheduled to deploy in April, it’s an unfathomable turn of events.
CD Projekt RED has, in the aftermath, not exactly helped itself. Despite turning a profit on day one due to amassing eight million pre-orders, it’s since passed the buck to Sony, suggesting that fans will be eligible for PS Store refunds when they actually aren’t. While this has flagged a gaping flaw in the Japanese giant’s refund policy, the Polish developer hasn’t exactly come out of this smelling of roses.
In fact, in a conference call earlier today, some of its comments are frankly flabbergasting. Board member Michał Nowakowski explained to investors that its ambition for the PS4 version of the sci-fi epic is for it to “be a good, playable, stable game, without glitches and crashes” once it’s implemented its previously promised January and February patches.
He admitted that the company prioritised next-gen and PC performance, despite the game originally being scheduled to release before the PS5 was even available: “It is more about us looking – as was previously stated – at the PC and next-gen performance rather than current-gen. We definitely did not spend enough time looking at that,” he said.
Some fans have questioned why Sony even allowed the game to pass certification in the first place given its state, but Nowakowski hinted that the platform holder “trusted” the studio to solve things before release: “I can only assume that they trusted that we’re going to fix things upon release, and that obviously did not come together.”
To conclude, the executive said that its aim is to get the game in “much better shape than it is now”, but that comes with a few caveats: “We have stated that if your expectation is that the game is going to be equal to, say, next-gen or PC in terms of performance, that definitely isn’t going to happen. Having said that, I’m not saying it’s going to be a bad game – but if you’re expectations regarding, say, visuals or other performance angle, are like this, then we’re openly stating that’s not going to be the case.”
One investor summed up the sentiments of the entire gaming population with his response: “I don’t expect next-gen performance on last-gen, but I would like to be able to play through the game. Thank you very much.”

What an unbelievable headline.
Cyberpunk 2077 Aiming to Be a 'Playable, Stable Game without Glitches and Crashes'
Should have done that before the released it
And yeah I know people were angry about those delays but if they would have just said that it is in an unplayable state right now many gamers would have accepted it. But instead they claimed that this games runs surprisingly well on last-gen consoles just 3 weeks ago
Would be nice to not have to be constantly quicksaving because of inevitable crashes. It does take you out of the world a tad.
Wan*ers. Thats the aim for release you a-holes
Wow, we are not worthy. You mean we're actually going to get what we paid for? A working and stable product!
This is so unheard of in the consumer market, thank you CDPR!
Even though in any other market launch you would have been sued to high heaven for releasing something not fit for purpose.
Lol. Talk about getting out a shovel and continuing to dig a giant hole.
Outrageous comments really. It reflects terribly poorly on CDPR. So basically they are saying they don't respect their paying customers enough to release a working product at launch?
This puts me off even considering buying the ps5 version in future with that attitude.
Get working on that PR CDPR
Where is Hotgoomba lol. 🤢🤢
This seals it for me. I won't be buying this game at all. Future CDPR releases will be heavily scrutinized before I even consider a purchase as well.
Yikes. This game was developed, marketed, and released for PS4, XBO, and PC, not for PS5 and XSX. To suggest otherwise, like prioritizing next gen, is basically insulting to consumers who have paid any sort of attention in recent years. This should have been cancelled for PS4 and XBO years ago, the way it was running at launch was not a surprise and it would not have been better in 2018. They actively hid those versions from consumers and reviewers.
I can't believe there are those on Twitter and elsewhere actively defending this.
@get2sammyb
It is strange as I believe the PS4 has sold nearly 114 million consoles, so surely that's one platform to get right straight away as that's a lot of game sales there.
It's extra sad because they keep talking down about the PS4 and XBO as if those were the target consoles for the last 8 years. They should've done what Rockstar did for GTAV. Make it good on the target systems and better on the new ones.
I'm kind of glad I didn't have ps5, if I have ps5 I definitely buy the game after seeing the metacritic score 😕
I hope the game can be feature complete with no bugs when I buy it a couple of months later since I'm still interested in this game.
Basically sounds like we just didn't care but now theirs such huge negativity let's pretend we do care.
That hole they are digging must be so big it must nearly be at Australia by now
Apparently, throwing up cactuses really does something to your health.
CD Projekt Red: Develops a game for current gen for 8 years
Also CDPR: Forgets about making CP2077 playable in the slightest for current gen
They just wanted to save money and time and not fix the current gen consoles even after 8 years of development
Lovely.
I just don't understand at all why they didn't release the PS5 version and Series X version alongside PC. We all know it will be a port of the PC version anyway, don't expect dualsense support, at least nothing too good.
I say this because if you look, for instance, Direct Comparison video on youtube, the quality from the 2018 demo to the release on a ultra high end pc is pretty much improved. Looks super good on pc.
Instead we get this crappy looking game, even on PS4 it looks kinda bad, following Ghost of Tsushima and Last of Us II...oof!
This is scandalous, it truly is. I mean I took one look at the game and knew it would be best left for the PS5 but it's not even that great on the new console either.
CDPR just release games on PC then, it's seems that's what you want so do it. Of course you wouldn't be getting any 'peasant' money from us poor console players but I'm sure the average member of the PCMR will buy at least a couple of copies each to help ease the pain.
😉
“It is more about us looking – as was previously stated – at the PC and next-gen performance rather than current-gen. We definitely did not spend enough time looking at that,”
And there is no PS5 or Series version available. This guy is un-fkin-believable… WTF
@eaglebob345 you seem to forget that GTA V ran about 25fps on PS3/360
Not that I'm defending CDPR. It's a disgrace that they've released in this state and makes a mockery of both Sony and Microsoft's QA but to make out GTA V was good on the old old gen consoles is a stretch of the truth.
"Cyberpunk 2077 Aiming to Be a 'Playable, Stable Game without Glitches and Crashes'"
This headline reminds me of times where it was commonly expected for games to actually launch finished without bugs and glitches from the get go, and not needing to be patched...
Games are a right mess nowadays in that sense. Sure, some aren't as bad, but most still have a day-one patch nowadays... sigh
The bar is set pretty low.
The only good thing about this is that the game is finished fixing bugs and other issues should be quick.
But what a disaster in providing term's.
Next big release I wish the games press would start asking more difficult questions and to hell with getting exclusive previews and pr bites.
They should have aimed for this before releasing the thing.
@Col_McCafferty What I do know for sure is CD Projekt ain't no Rockstar, you could make fun of their constant milking of GTA V (you don't but I certainly do 😋) but when they release a game you know you're getting a high quality very polished experience no matter the platform.
So I was basically right. This isn't a surprise, the gap between Cyberpunk on a descent PC & PS4 is hugh.
I've honestly lost all faith in CDPR, it's just lie after lie at this point.
I've went from I'll probably get this again once the next gen ports drop to I don't wanna support a company that would treat its fans like this.
As insignificant as it is in the grand scheme they will not be getting that $60 again from me.
"Cyberpunk 2077 Aiming to Be a 'Playable, Stable Game without Glitches and Crashes'"
Wow. Aim for the stars there, CDPR. lol
Think they should pull the advertisement for this from TV too, I have seen it advertised a few times already yesterday and today, they now know it's a mess and still advertising it not a good look, although it is advertised on next gen consoles but still not a good look is it.
Why not release the PC, PS5 and Series X versions first. The next year release the last gen versions, or just cancel it entirely.
I'm not even going up bother getting it on PS5 now.
@HotGoomba___Rebrand you held true to your word though. Commendatoré.
@banacheck Is that Hugh Jackman or Hugh Laurie?
So basically if they didn't put all their time into next gen versions and PC versions we may have had good versions for the base consoles. This basically admits they didn't care and knew it would be bad, they lied and purposely mislead people because all they cared about was the PC version (lets face it CDPR are not console Devs and only bother with them because they have no choice).
Funny a week ago CDPR were classed as one of the best most pro consumer Devs out there and a week later they are considered up there with the likes of EA and co and Cyberpunk will go down as one of the biggest disasters of last gen even if the sales are great. They burned all their goodwill what could have been avoided if they were just honest.
Also thanks Pushsquare for coming down hard on them, even though the PC version is buggy as hell it still got 10's and 9's so i'm glad you aren't bowing to CDPR.
While I really haven't had any issues to speak of on PS4 Pro it is bad for those who have and continue to have issues. This might be my most anticipated game ever simply based on how much I love Witcher 3 but even I can see this ain't what we were promised. I have no doubt that they will fix the majority of these bugs. I recall playing Witcher 3 on a base PS4 on launch day and had several issues. With all that Witcher money though you'd think they could have done a better job at managing not only the game but the fans expectations. Only showing us high end footage of this didn't help at all
@WallyWest @oldschool1987
The problem is that that statement makes no sense as is there is no next gen version and won't be until some time later next year; they said as much in the conference call. They haven't just made a next gen version and put it on the shelf, there is no next gen version yet.
They obviously haven't paid any attention to any console version at all and only focused on PCs, tried to port it to old gen and realised they fked up.
Wow.
“I don’t expect next-gen performance on last-gen, but I would like to be able to play through the game. Thank you very much.”
The fact that an investor had to say that post launch is incredible.
What kind of pressure was this team under though to get the game launched by Christmas? Or did they just dig themselves in to a hole by making promises they couldn't keep?
Either way, the poor folk on the dev team who are going to have to spend Christmas fixing this, and the last gen players who were more or less hoodwinked are who I have sympathy for.
The cynic in me wonders if CDPR was hoping their PC master race & new gen console fan bases were going to rescue them from this PR mess with the current "you don't like it on base ps4/xb then you shouldn't have bought it!" attitude.
As I said in previous posts-CDPR possibly got investment $$ to fund Cyberpunk's development on the promise of console sales to what was then the current gen based off the original timeline. They probably had to set a hard date of this year even though they'd known the base console versions were in trouble. They were absolutely counting on the base console peasant sales to make the development costs back & start turning profit day 1. So its ironic to blame them subtly for the PR mess they're in now.
This situation is very disappointing, looking forward to this for years. Played a bit on launch but quickly decided to leave it for a while and come back when patched, and that's on PS5. They do have a history for this though going all the way back to the original Witcher game, purchased that on PC and was a complete technical mess. They fixed with an upgraded edition about a year later.
Does come across as very dishonest, you'd assume the base PS4 version will have sold the most pre-orders but that's the version they spent the least time on optimizing? Concentrating on the much smaller group of high end PC and next gen users? Very dodgy.
Nothing to say that others haven't said before... but let me just say it for the sake of letting it out... WFT?!?!?!? It's... how they could even dare to say something like that... this, and I mean all, the game, the PR , etc, all is not just a misstep... it's fuc*ing unbelievable. Surreal.
I feel like I am hate-playing it out of obligation now since I can't get a refund. Thankfully, I can play it on PS5...but the crashes are annoying and they reset my HDR and graphics settings every time.
You'd think at the very least this is what they aim for on release...
@eltomo No way, they had just over 7 years working on the game, no way they could even figure out how it would run on consoles available... 7 years ago...
Aaand there goes any sympathy and respect I had towards CDPR.. what a ***** condescending way to speak to your customers.
They release a game on current gen consoles (against everyone's better judgement) and then tell us it was not meant for current gen consoles. I'm flabbergasted.
BTW the game's nowhere near good on PS5 either!! SMH
Where was sony through this? I'm pretty sure that a game of this magnitude would have had to pass some kind of quality control yes? I'm not defending cdpr here but surely a percentage of the blame should fall on sony too? All i'm reading is that cdpr should never have released it..sony never should have let them..
@Northern_munkey Come on, it's not a Sony owned studio. Blaming them or Microsoft for this debacle is a step too far.
Funny how when Ubisoft releases a buggy game it's all on them, when it's CDPR....
🤔
Man, this is really disappointing. I’m not even gonna fool with this game.
CDPR finally showing their true colors. Your f-cking game is unplayable on the last gen console and you think that we expect this game to run as good as the PC version. How dumb does this guy think the console gamers are?
But there literally aren't next gen versions yet, what else were you expecting the majority of people to play their PS4 copy on??
"I’m not saying it’s going to be a bad game – but"
Ha, jeez eh!? Wow lolol
So much has already been said about this mess that it’s hard to offer anything new but I’ll try. CDPR are up to their eyeballs in damage control mode and it’s 95% a self made problem. The other 5% of the problem and the silver lining in all of this for me is the resetting of expectations that this was ever going to be anything more than a video game.
CDPR’s handling of this situation has been at best poor and is inexcusable but I love this game. It’s not quite the game that was advertised and it’s unfinished but it’s a bloody great game. It’s easy to hop on the hate train and lose sight of all the things the game gets right.
To me it’s like the open world design of Spider-Man (in that the world is there to facilitate immersion between missions, gigs and side jobs and not really there to actually mess around with) mixed with the setting, world and dialogue of Deus Ex. This is not a GTA sandbox and it’s a shame CDPR advertised it as such.
If you’re on the fence, wait for this as it will be incredible once the bugs are ironed out and expansions add to the world.
Full disclosure: I have truthfully not had the crashing issues many have had and generally have a higher tolerance for bugs and open world jank. I feel for those who have not been able to play the game due to these issues.
This headline is hilarious. CDPR management needs to fully accept responsibility for this if they have any hope of retaining their reputation and so far I’m not seeing that. I feel bad for Mike Pondsmith right now.
I aim to be dating a Mean Girls-era Lindsay Lohan.
@solocapers To be fair Cyberpunk even dips below the 20s, oftentimes to 16 frames per second or lower. At least GTA V managed to stay around mid 20s. Also there's so many other issues like crashes, ps2 textures, bugs and glitches compared to GTA that even in it's rough state at launch it still ran way better than cyberpunk.
@KPraj PC is the next gen version. They could have released it along side the PC version if they didn't choose to be greedy and aim for the old consoles because its a bigger install base.
"They haven't focused on any console version at all"
You're not wrong lol
I think covid would have been the perfect excuse 9 months ago to go "sorry we are transitioning to just next gen as the current situation means we can't dedicate the needed resource". Hindsight, however, is a wonderful thing.
I can’t remember this sort of negligence towards a version of a game, they basically did the bare minimum on PS4 and Xbox one and focused on PC. It’s especially bad when it’s always been advertised as a PS4/Xbox game and was meant to release months before the new consoles even came out. You can’t even buy a ‘next gen’ version of this game, the patch isn’t until next year.
Disgraceful.
This is a high-end PC game they dumped on consoles knowing it would not run even at the lowest settings.
Regardless, people are doing what they should. Complain and demand their money back.
Gamers should not be trained in accepting "it is better than nothing" from publishers. Or play a garbage version to show support on PS4.
Amazon takes returns for defective open games in the USA. If you have physical, send it back - they will refund.
I can’t believe this isn’t an Onion headline.
“I don’t expect next-gen performance on last-gen, but I would like to be able to play through the game. Thank you very much.” OOP. I bet the executive felt really stupid after he heard that.
They didnt spend enough time looking at the last-gen versions? So they didnt even have a couple seconds to check those versions, which is enough time to see its a buggy mess. They only are making it worse and worse.
@BrainHacker hmm its definitely playable on ps4 pro
as mama cass song went its getting better every day we can but hope
@Andyhunter132 Its playable if you want to torture yourself by experiencing the game in the worst possible way.
My little brother ask for a refund for this game and he is playing it on PS4 Pro. Thankfully, I have this game on my PC so I let him borrow mine while I'm at work.
@Col_McCafferty i was not blaming sony at all..i was asking at what point did sonys quality control ok this..a game as big as this...as hyped as this got released on a premium multi million selling console and nobody at sony asked about it..the fact that cdpr have said they hid it from sony speaks volumes about how much sony actually saw of it running on the ps4 but still deemed it fit for release (i am pretty sure there is a certification system to make sure a product is fit for purpose) so how did this pass? Like i said sony need to accept a certain amount of responsibilty here...not blaming sony at all..
Just shove a copy under the bed for 3months and when the glitches are sorted the game will be amazing.
Then redo all the reviews not forgetting the rush and sorted.
I feel bad for all the folks with ps4s cause they game is actually decent once you get past the performance and the bugs.
Here's hoping that Horizon: Forbidden West doesn't suffer the same.
I've seen so many comments about people stating, well PS4 and XB1 is old tech - this is holding the game back.
Probably true - so don't release on those consoles. Don't make it a massive focus of your marketing campaign. Admit the issues. Sigh.
@get2sammyb you wrote the headline. Unbelievable? Well, go back to the drawing board, dude! The game is playable without all those things. In fact, I've put in multiple hours every single day since release without problems. But, I guess making a mountain out of a mole hill is what gets you clicks (read: paid), right?
@wiiware Nah. Have some patience.
I've got a PS5, and I nearly pulled the trigger on a preorder, but I was worried THIS would happen. I got really worried when I heard they weren't letting anyone review it on console - if I'd had a preorder, that's when I would have tried cancelling it. And from what I hear, while it's better on the PS5, it's not really a crash-free experience on ANY platform (including ultra-high-end PC).
The excuses are just unacceptable to me. It was absurd that they went gold when they had to know this was this broken - it's not like PS4s are the hot console that's hard to find for testing. HOW DID THEY LET IT GO THIS FAR? I know they got serious criticism for delays, but they could have simply been honest, even if that meant delaying only the console editions (though the PC needs patches, too). I'm firmly in the camp of preferring a delay over a buggy game.
So now, I'll wait for the inevitable GotY edition, at a lower price than what they're asking for now, with most of the bugs squashed and most of the DLC included. It sounds like a decent game if you can get past the bugs, and by the end of 2021 it will be even better.
I've been playing on PS4 pro and had few issues. Especially since latest patch. Well one crash since that. I don't know if I've been lucky, I tend to be with games that are said to be buggy messes. I can't help feel that CDPR were in a damned if they do and damned if they don't situation. No doubt the pandemic has affected the later part of development and testing and they had already delayed and delayed. At the end of the day it's an excellent game, but feel for base PS4 players and hope they'll get it sorted asap.
@TheLightSpirit Yeah, this game is about the immersion and the bugs will really take you out of the game, it reminds you that it's only a game. Considering witcher 3 ps4 is patched until it run good, I hope cdp also patched this game until it's good.
@RobN Yup, it's better to wait until cdp patched all the bugs, the ai problems, the economy, and the characters upgrade path.
@Jimmer-jammer I think Maximum Mike is pretty busy playing 2077 himself on a high-end PC with good performance.
Honestly, you're right. It's so easy to hop on the hate train. Almost as easy as it was jumping on the hype train, I suppose. And I see too many who lose sight of what the game actually offers.
We all had crazy high expectations from the game. We should've seen this coming. I expected a lot more complexity in terms of character relations, side quest to main quest integrity, and how all that affects Night City. But I guess 4(?) years of development wasn't enough. It all goes back to the fact that they announced the game too early. The Witcher 3 still had a long way to release and they revealed their next game!
This situation is messed up. This is the kind of thing I'd expect to see in Night City, not outside of it. Feels so ironic for a game that is inherently (as far as I've experiences, no spoilers) anti-capitalist and against corporations to treat people this way. But as you said, once the bugs are all ironed out and the game is 'playable', I hope more of us can see what the game actually offers than what it didn't deliver.
My heart goes out to all y'all who, like myself, had so many expectations and it all fell apart, whether by the game's core shortcomings or bugs.
I hope for CDPR to recover from this, they were supposed to be role models for other studios. This isn't the way.
I appreciate your balanced reply. CDPR’s upper management and marketing is to blame here and for the sake Mike Pondsmith and all of the developers and collaborators who poured their heart and souls into this game for us, I just wanted to try and inject a little reason and positivity back into the conversation as there is a brilliant game buried under the hyperbolic negativity in this mess of a launch.
It’s not okay that I have to reload saves to fix scripting issues. It’s not okay that I need to reset my video settings every time I boot the game up. It’s not okay that I have to fight with menu scrolling constantly drifting down. It’s not okay that I have to stop every time I reach a location and let the world load in so it looks good. It’s not okay that they marketed a different game than they delivered and it’s not okay that CDPR tried to pull the wool over the public’s (and media’s) eyes. I’m not defending any of that, just trying the keep the conversation here from degrading into the usual “burn them at the stake” mob mentality that is frankly destroying lives.
CDPR will hopefully fix this going forward, however that may look, and we will all get to finally reap the rewards of everyone’s hard work. Hope you have a good day
Thing is, at least from the videos, on the base PS4 it doesn't look exceptionally good or something, there are much better looking games on the PS4 for my opinion. So it's just a poor implementation and not an attempt to run something beyond the hardware capabilities.
For example, GTA V on PS3 looked exceptionally well for that console, so people (including myself) didn't mind the pretty poor performance. Here you have something that looks decent and performs very bad.
Just reads like very poor damage control. Really, you didn’t pay attention to the PS4 version which has by far the largest install base of any console?
CDPR showing exactly what I need to ensure I never buy a game from them at full price ever again. I’ll wait for this to get down to $19.99, I feel no rush in the slightest to play this now.
I have the game sat on my PS4 Pro and it will stay there until patched fully, or I get a PS5.
CD Projekt Red have definitely gone on the naughty step for me with this, I will be getting the next thing from them at a deep discount or not at all.
They've joined Square Enix for offering a discount on Life is Strange 2 before all episodes were released.
Still, neither are close yet to the lifetime ban on giving Gearbox any money after Colonial Marines and Randy Pitchford.
Imagine releasing a game with the long term goal being "One day we hope this will be minimally functional. "
@Northern_munkey Then on the same token you have to ask where was Microsoft with certification for Xbox and PC? This is NOT Sony or Microsoft, it's all down to CDPR.
And not getting hysterical about this because enough has been said already but jeezo, CDPR have destroyed their reputation with this and it won't be repairable damage. As for the state of the game? it's going to take a lot of firefighting to bring it back under control. It should have been a great time for them releasing this after working on it for so long, not this absolute disaster...
This is the sad state of the gaming industry: release a game in pre-alpha version without calling "early access" or "crowdfunding" and try to fix it before a class action lawsuit.
Putting aside all bugs and glitches, the game is not good. Every part of the city looks the same, with no incentive to explore to find unique locations. Most of what you find will be shards, junk to sell or disassemble, or money. There are no special surprises that make you feel glad you explored.
Quests almost all take place within one small location like a multi-floor building, no travelling across the map on a wide-spanning adventure.
A.I. is non-existent. Enemies just rush towards you or stand there shooting at you without any tactics. NPCs do the same routine in the same spot from day to night. Police just spawn next to you if you commit a crime, you can see them pop up in front or behind of you. Races do not work because of no A.I. Rival cars teleport to catch up instead of driving to overtake you. If you stop driving they stop driving too or teleport in front of you.
All side content is just killing Enemies, fetching item or finding an item. There is nothing else to do. Main quests are just more elaborate and scripted but content is similar.
All guns feel the same, and melee too. It is very clunky and feels floaty because hits are hard to register when even you know you can't miss. A lot of clipping enemies and objects, sometimes even spawn inside one another so you have enemies with 2 heads or 4 arms and legs.
Ememies often get stuck in environment. I couldn't enter a room because an NPC I couldn't kill got stuck in the doorway with Talk option overriding the Open Door option.
Cars I summon do not have A.I. either. If another car blocks them, my car will just stay there 50 meters away stuck in that position instead of finding a way around and driving towards me autonomously. Sometimes my car I summon fall through the map after hitting another car. Switching camera view when driving takes 10 seconds or just doesn't work.
Answering calls sometimes require multiple presses of the button because inputs don't register or take 10 seconds to register. The settings in game reset to default on every start.
There is the illusion of choice in dialogue and quests because your choice doesn't really affect the game and are just meaningless. Prologue for Life Paths last 30 minutes and do not affect anything else after that. After Prologue there is a montage of various scenes which are actual gameplay segments cut out of the game. A minute of scenes you thought you would experience in the future but no, they are just there to show you what you supposedly did without letting you do it.
The world just feels very barren and lifeless like a game on rails. There is no autonomy in anything anyone does. It is all scripted in a very predictable way with no variation in behaviour. You can tell exactly how any enemy will behave the moment you start combat so there is no strategy at all.
"Aiming to Be a 'Playable, Stable Game without Glitches and Crashes'"
Man, I'm so old that I can remember a time when that was the plan before a game was released.
This whole thing is pretty shameful. Not only did they not show footage on from the base consoles, but they also outright lied to Sony and Microsoft that promised QA fixes would be carried out prior to release. And then they had the nerve to release them to the public knowing what a broken mess they were. This is behaviour which almost makes EA look like a fairly reputable company.
The poor explanation is worse then them just saying what we all know. They made a game too demanding for old systems but wanted the market from the 100 million PS4 owners.
How has it become so common for games to launch in this state? The idea of a game launching could be this massive event, where the world takes part in experiencing your art. Now we are all accepting an unpaid beta tester job, at full price retail for the game. I'm playing on the PS5 and I don't have too much to complain about, but the crashes really takes away from the experience. I'm immediately brought out of the experience and back into some corporate world, where for some reason, a specific release date becomes more important then the game's launch state. We accept it as something that is unavoidable, like there is nothing a developer can do to work on bugs and glitches prior to release, but not every game that launches is crashing on you like this. This isn't an unavoidable part of making video games, this is prioritizing something more then the game and how it plays.
The fact this article exists alone says it all about this game.
I hope you have all learned your lessons and never pre order games until you see reviews for it. CDPR has blown all their goodwill with this s*itshow of a launch
@tweakin_frostyz The headline is a direct quote from a CDPR board member though.
cant honestly believe this from CDPR... one of my fav. developers going totally bulls**t on one of their biggest customers, playstation. Really disappointing.
@tweakin_frostyz cd project red themselves are the ones who said that. It's not "just for clicks". And the issue is very widespread. You seem to be lucky. Ign and digital foundry both showcased just how bad the game runs in an objective manner as well
I don't expect a flawless game on Day 1 but this launch was inexcusable. I'll wait for the inevitable $20 PS5 disc on eBay.
Now that I think about it, can you imagine how much angrier console players would've been if this game was released before November 12? Maybe it's one of the reasons why the game got delayed so many times. The developer wanted it to be at least playable on the next-gen consoles.
Originally, I was planning to buy this game day one as a digital download for PS5 but then I heard the reviews and assessment of performance & stability and decided against it. Once the major updates & patches have been rolled out (read: February) I’m considering buying it then, but Sony desperately needs to do something about digital game ownership & the business model of the digital marketplace.
It’s a mess!
It has a lot of room to improve, but some of those improvements can already be copied or inspired by extant structures ála Steam downloads and their refund policy.
Perhaps if the Sony PS Store would allow you to put down a ‘security deposit’ of say five to ten dollars that gives you limited access to the game (say, the first 2 hours) sales of most games would actually go up. Currently (ESPECIALLY if it’s only available as a digital copy) it’s a big ask to charge up to $70 for a game IF you are not permitted any refund in the case you just don’t like it.
Sony desperately needs to update their digital store model, and Cyberpunk has been a great study on this. For the medium of video games, you can’t fully judge if you like it until you’re directly playing it! It’s inherent to the medium.
@ankehuber Every 5 minutes. Just to be sure. I didn't have any crashes today, but I don't wanna let my guard down...
I played witcher 2 and 3, they were excellent, not sure what exactly happened it seems like they just panic released it before series X and PS5 became the mainstay platforms.
Witcher 2 is on the 360 and witcher 3 is on the Nintendo switch the only compromises were graphical fidelity...
@Cheski the thing is it doesn't even look great on PS5. This argument about focusing on next gen? Do they mean Series X and PC? Because the PS5 is just the PS4 Pro version at Upto 60 FPS.... Their comments are flabbergasting.
The amount of immersion breaking awful graphical elements just break any immersion. Dodgy lighting, low resolution textures, terrible pop in and that's before constant glitches and crashes.
Come on nobody believes they didnt know right you started how long ago with this game and didnt see the need too test it? For all the people who defend this better shut up about Ubisoft or EA if this happens with them or you are a hypocrite.
@Sam-Bridges My expectations were a fun playable game without too many bugs. The hypetrain excuse even after this response is really insulting. Just come too terms they messed up big time and yes they tried too keep it from the people and they got away with it. You know what you are working with they console is around for 7 years and if you believe it wont run on this generation dont try too cash in on it.
@solocapers GTA 5 was a million times better on PS3 than Cyberpunk could muster on PS4. then check the specs each had to work with Rockstar made a miracle happen.
they have ruined the reputation in a day! after building it up for so long I will not be trusting them for a very long time now.
I've deleted it from my PS5. I may download it again in a few months (Years?) when it's all patched and playable.
