@JohnnyShoulder Yeah, it came up back in August when we talked briefly about how Disney finally got around to releasing their streaming exclusives on physicals. I have mine pre-ordered and I'm really looking forward to it! I'd say Prey is my favourite of the franchise, even over the original (though only just, the original is a stone cold classic). I recently had a Predator+AvP marathon, and while it wasn't quite as painful as it may sound, there were a lot of clunkers! Apart from the original and Prey, I'd say Predators from 2010 came out pretty well, at least for me (I even graciously not-hated the first AvP, which I fully expected to loathe with a passion. Turns out it was only "meh" )
@FuriousMachine I know it been brought up that it was releasing on physical media, but wasn't sure if a confirmed uk date had been posted.
Can't say I've enjoyed any Predator film since the first two. Similar with most of the more recent sequels and remakes of films from that era such as Alien and Terminator. I can't think of any that were even as good as the originals. Hopefully Prey will be at least watchable, which is more that I can say for the othersnive seen.
@LN78 Yeah, man, that ending! Wonder what Darabont is up to these days; haven't seen anything from him since the Walking Dead debacle way back when... he didn't go and die on us, did he? Hopefully he just took a long hiatus, living off the settlement money and is ready to get back in saddle again soon.
And, yeah, I'm given to blaspheming quite often. Been accused of heresy on a regular basis, too. In my defense in this particular case, I do go back and forth on them all the time
@JohnnyShoulder No, you're right, I don't think the release date was ever confirmed here
I dropped out of the Terminator franchise after no 4, but have been meaning to pick them back up in order to see just how bad they get. As for the Alien franchise, there's a lot to love about Alien3 (even if Fincher himself can't see it ), though after that it gets pretty bad... even Ridley Scott's own attempts at sequels didn't work for me (I hated Prometheus when I saw it in the theatre upon release, and haven't gone back since).
@LN78@FuriousMachine
Alien 3 and Predator 2 I have similarly grown to like more over the years.
I remember collecting the comic books for the making of Alien 3 before it came out, and reading about the original plans that Fincher had with the wooden planet. Would have loved to seen that come to fruition.

@LtSarge Yeah had a fun time when I watched the movie at the cinema a little more then a year ago or something like that. The movie felt like an ambitious project . I did not least like the many fire fights and the ending which felt like the most ambitious part of the movie. I have otherwise myself had a good time lately as I have watched a couple of the first Xman movies hehe,
@LN78@JohnnyShoulder I wasn't really sold on "Predator 2" after my rewatch two years ago. I didn't dislike it and I was never bored, but it didn't particularly grab me either. Alonso and Blades were solid, but Glover's "loose cannon", gritty cop got a bit tiresome for me. Might have just been my mood at the time; may give it another shot later.
I didn't even know that Darabont had written an Indy screenplay! I have to track that one down. I have a sneaking suspicion that many of Lucas' films works in spite of, rather than because of, George Lucas, at least for me. Whenever he's given free reign to indulge his whims, the result is rarely something I enjoy.
Nor did I know that there was a comic for Alien3 released ahead of the finished movie. Fascinating! I knew that the making of it was a complete fustercluck, but I'm in the dark as to exactly what went down. Must see if there's a tell-all kind of book on the subject I can add to my reading list.
@FuriousMachine I think are some YouTube videos about the wooden planet if you search for it.
That must have been a thing back then, as I seem to remember reading something similar for Bram Stoker's Dracula. I was too young to see the films in the cinema, so the comic book was a way to experience it.

I watched Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) and I was quite surprised at how comical it was in places, I mean it may have terrified me when I first saw it aged around 10 but it doesn't really hold up. There are some cool cinematic moments but when Freddy first appears in the alley way with stretchy arms I found it really funny. Also the ending chase part was almost slapstick and reminded me of Home Alone with the booby traps and the knocking him down the stairs bits. Quite enjoyed it though.

@sorteddan I'm gearing up for a run through the entire Elm Street and Friday the 13th franchises. I've seen many of them, but I honestly can't remember which I have seen or not. I do remember that Friday the 13th part VI was the horror film that released me from my fear of watching scary movies and started me on the path to become a lover of the genre.
@FuriousMachine
Oh nice! You'll see what I meant soon then. Im deffo doing all the Elm Street one too! Not sure if I've got time for all the Friday 13th ones as well but I was contemplating it. Make sure you include Freddy vs Jason too - I seem to recall that one being pretty good.
And I'm also usually not afraid of watching horror stuff... Still always find reasons not to re-watch Calvaire though!!!
@sorteddan Yeah, FvJ is one I know I've seen and I remember I found it quite fun.
I've pretty much been immunized against being scared by horror movies, but I have a special fondness for those who manages to impart some tension; especially when it manages to make me invested in the fates of the characters on screen (The first Conjuring movie stands out for me in that regard; it really had me on the edge of my seat as I had developed a connection with the unhappy haunted family and that, to me, makes a good horror movie).
Playing horror games, however, that is a different story. Especially first-person. I have countless games in my collection that I'm too scared to play. VR horror is completely out of the question (though, The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners is no problem... tried Resi 8 VR and didn't even dare leave the first area; I'm sure that game would have incited my first massive coronary had I continued )
@FuriousMachine
Make a note of the book on Jesse's desk during one of his nightmares is the second Elm Street movie. Saw it and immediately thought of you. 🤔

Watched A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge
It is bad. Maybe for some it's so bad it good type thing but for me it was just bad. The first one was a bit comical and dated but at least It had a story and monster that launched the fanchise. The second... Bad, bad, bad.
It had... an exploding parakeet, spontaneously combusting hotdogs, a demon cat and an invisible entity whipping a naked gym teachers backside with towels. Bad, bad, bad.

Just finished watching John Wick: Chapter 2. Really glad that the second and third movies have now been added to Prime Video. Even the fourth one is coming in two weeks!
Anyway, another exceptional movie! Maybe not as good as the first one seeing as how that one felt more like a complete movie while the second one ends on a cliffhanger. Still love the absolute brutality and mayhem in these movies. It's like the creators know exactly how to please their viewers. I'm definitely a fan now of this franchise. Looking forward to watching the third movie soon!
I also watched Thunderball earlier this week. Decent James Bond movie but it wasn't as memorable as Goldfinger.
Every Halloween I set myself a challenge to watch a horror movie every day in October (and then basically do them back to back over Halloween weekend). Every year I use it usually as a mop up session for anything that has had buzz in the last year, or anything that I missed the year previously.
For whatever reason this rarely works out for me and I end up not enjoying most of the stuff I watch, with this year especially having probably the worst two week start I've ever had.
That said, the last two weeks really turned around for me. I rated VHS 85 on Letterboxd five stars, one of only 100 and something out of titles to be awarded that out of the 1000+ I've logged on the 'Boxd.
I also watched Sissy and The Night House, I thought these were both excellent. And enjoyed my time with Deadstream, Smile and VHS 99, too.
It is probably all downhill from here, but this is one of the best stretches of movies I've had since I started this tradition like a decade ago.
@LtSarge Thunderball was such a bore for me. The underwater bits look amazing for the time but watching guys struggle underwater with harpoons for 20 minutes isn’t quite as interesting as it sounds.
