A French source believes a PS5 price hike is imminent.
In a post on X (or Twitter), the account GyoJvFR warns prospective PlayStation purchasers to brace themselves for a “drastic” increase.
According to his message, prices will increase as follows:
- PS5 Slim
- From €549.99 (~$634) to €649.99 (~$749)
- PS5 Pro
- From €799.99 (~$922) to €899.99 (~$1,038)
- PS Portal
- From €219.99 (~$253) to €249.99 (~$288)
He claims the “announcement will be made shortly” but he doesn’t know the “exact effective date”. Apparently the same source accurately leaked similar Xbox price hikes last year.

Still, it’s worth noting that we’ve been unable to corroborate this information and will contact Sony for comment.
As many of you know, the economy is stretched at the moment and an increase in AI consumption of key computing components has pushed prices up across the board.
But PlayStation, to its credit, has said it has secured inventory for the rest of the year, and it’s iterated that it intends to further monetise its existing consumers to offset increasing costs.
As such, these price hikes, on the surface, look far too extreme to us. It’s worth repeating that the PS5 launched at €499.99, so we’re looking at a potential €150 price increase over five years into the generation here.
We’ll update if and when we learn more, but definitely chalk this down as a rumour until harder evidence surfaces.
