Sure do love Chris Pratt taking on the legendary role of Chris Pratt
To be honest I didn't think much of Jack Black as Bowser either. I was expecting him to be a bit more gutteral/deeper but... whatever.
It looks nice (Aside from Mario's model looking a little off to me). But it's an Illumination movie so... I wouldn't touch that with a ten foot barge pole 😅

@Ralizah
Is white trash slasher film a real genre or you just using it in a derogatory sense to describe something you don't like?
I watch both of Zombies Halloween films. The first was pretty good in my opinion, showing how his unsettled childhood created the monster. The second had too much supernatural nonsense going on for my liking.
Still will probably work through most of the other Rob Zombie horror films over the next few weeks. Definitely the firefly trilogy of which I've never seen the third, the more recent Lords of Salem and 31.
@sorteddan It's fairly descriptive of the sort of films Rob Zombie makes, in terms of both the types of characters that populate his films and the sort of deliberately raw, grimy, provocative aesthetic they adopt. I don't mean it in a derogatory sense, though. Like I said, the first remake is better than most of the sequels in this particular series, and even if they're not my thing, I can't really disparage his skill as a filmmaker.
If it's the term itself you're taking exception to, well, I don't think he'd mind me describing his films that way, lol.

-Evening With Kevin Smith. been watching all of it anyway. damn shame that those college students were idiots the whole time. that one lesbian about started World War III with kevin when she was sort of ranting about being a lesbian and how Chasing Amy affected her or whatever.
-Scanners 2 and scanners 3. Not really interested in them but might as well watch them.
Morbius. A bit dull in all honesty and felt too formulaic. And I'm getting a bit fed up of the Multiverse stuff as it just seems a lazy way of introducing characters from other films. When I first saw what they did, I thought they had cast Michael Keaton in another role. 😂

@JohnnyShoulder I've kind of got fed up of those as well. Haven't watched an MCU film since the last Spider-Man and not seen any Star Wars past Rise of Skywalker.
Weekend movies (just copied my Letterboxd reviews). Starting up on some spooky stuff for the season.
End of Evangelion (Blu-Ray)
Disappointed that I couldn't give it as high a score as the series, but I ultimately don't think it's a satisfying end to the story.
From what I can gather this takes place during the events of the last two episodes of the series (which took place inside protagonist Shinji's head in a more abstract form as the studio depleted their budget), with the movie showing what's going on in the actual physical world during the events.
Without getting into too much spoilery territory, the first half is fairly strong and features a tense, large scale military assault with with some cool (& sometimes greusome) action with the protagonists on the ropes. The second half features some stunning animation with a lot of trippy (& outright weird) moments, but it ultimately doesn't tell you anything that the series doesn't, IMO. We still get the general gist of what Shinji chooses, but there's absolutely no followup to show how or if the extended cast/world at large is able to move on (which I thought was sort of supposed to be the point). Honestly the world still ends up looking more f***** than at any other point in the series (I think I actually prefer the seemingly more open ended finale of the series).
Trailer:
The Slumber Party Massacre (Tubi)
Teen slasher flick that sees a wild eyed psychopath dressed head to toe in denim terrorize a group of high school girls with a foot long power drill.
First watched it last October & remember enjoying it, so decided to seek it out again and it was just as good the second time around. It doesn't seem to do anything particularly fresh (in fact some shots seem directly "inspired" by Halloween), but it does a great job of hitting all the typical notes well (very gratuitous nudity, brutal slayings, fun fakeouts, etc.) all in a brisk runtime if under 90 minutes. Will definitely become a yearly regular for me.

Currently Playing:
Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)
@JohnnyShoulder I can see something like that happening, Quill punching in the wrong co-ordinants and crashing the Milano on Dagobah or something. Then we would get the ultimate buddy movie Chewie & Groot 😂
@MightyDemon82 Doesn’t sound outside the realms of possibly happening. In a few years time when we see it, we will have the weird feeling of deja but not know exactly why.
@JudgeDredd that and District 9 are probably one of my favourite modern sci-fi films. I was a but disappointed with Chappie, but still enjoyed it more than most. Worth it to see Hugh Jackman playing out of character. The last Blomkamp film I saw was Demonic, which I did not think was great at all.
The only negative I can think of for Elysium is Jodie Foster's accent which is a all over the place.

Speaking of 80s movies though, I finished watching Top Gun (1986) yesterday. It's certainly not the best movie I've seen but it's pretty good. There aren't a lot of movies about fighter jets so it was interesting to watch. Definitely an iconic movie though just like a lot of the movies from that time, for sure.
@LN78
There are three film versions of Carrie I recently discovered ... The first (1976) is definitely better than the last (2013). Don't think I've seen the one in the middle (2002) so think I will be looking out for that one soonish.
As for the others, some great stuff on your list - enjoy!

@LN78
Not double features no.
I'm currently working through Rob Zombie back catalogue and the final destination films for a couple of contrasting approaches to the horror genre. Will probably watch a couple of Romeros of the Dead films, one or two classic slasher and anything else that takes my attention or piques my interest.
I love October in that regards

@LN78 I should really watch The Crow again this Halloween. Yes, it’s a bit of a mess but it’s understandable given what happened. The aesthetic is spot on though and it’s just really watchable, if that makes sense.
