Started playing Cyberpunk 2077 again last night after doing about an hour or so a few months ago. It’s really weird after playing Horizon Forbidden West and Elden Ring back to back. The first person view feels really restrictive and I just want to press a button and have it change to third person.

A few sessions and hopefully I’ll be in the zone. Looks like it could be fun.

@render I’ve started Cyberpunk also. And I’m playing alongside TLoU2, which I think I’m close to finishing. I just wanted to take a little break and so I started Cuberpunk and probably just played a couple hours.

I completely agree — I wish the game was third person. I think I’d probably like it much better if it were. But as it is, I’m not sure I’m going to get along with it. It’s menus, systems, and game world are all pretty confusing. The game setting and aesthetic are cool and all, but it’s kind of hard to follow. The edgy slang and futuristic terms take a while to wrap your head around. And none of the characters I’ve met so far do much for me.
Of course playing anything alongside TLoU2 is going to feel inadequate in the character development department.

@Th3solution Or maybe the game is just fine and it's all just the user...

@Th3solution @KilloWertz @Fragile @velio84 I’m finding the same in terms of the interface. It feels like it’s really built for PC as you have to move the cursor over anything to see the details. There’s also a lot of written info on everything so you end up staring at the screen for a while to try and determine if the thing you just picked up is any use compared to anything else.

As an example one of the very first missions was to collect your gun from the seller in the tower block but the options when you speak to him mention selling, and then you are just presented with a screen of items to sell on the one side and buy on the other. After staring at it a while I realised that one of the guns had a small yellow circle next to it but it wasn’t obvious that’s what I should be doing.

I quite like the Brain Dance mechanic although there is a lot of faffing about to get people in the right places to see the things you are supposed to see. Generally though it does a good job of getting some interaction with the quests rather than just telling you everything.

The characters are at least interesting here and it’s great to see that there are different choices you can make but I do wonder how deep that goes. Will I lock myself out of certain things with the options I choose or are they inconsequential. Guess I’ll find out.

Got the platinum for SpongeBob last night, nothing I haven't seen before but it was an enjoyable enough 15-20 hours and it cost me nothing through PS+.

Started Unbound: world's apart this morning to get a feel for it. A nice hand drawn 2D puzzle platformer where you have to shift dimensions to progress not unlike Guacamelee but only surrounding your character.

I've started A Plague Tale: Innocence, played for around an hour or so and reached chapter 2. It looks fairly pretty is quite atmospheric but am not sure it's gonna be a game for me. Seems quite heavy on the sneaking about stealthy play so far and that's usually the section of games I really don't enjoy. Now I'm probably gonna stick it out anyhow but hopefully it'll start to win me over a bit in the next session. Hoping any of you can encourage me to keep plugging away and tell me that it's worth the slog...

@Jimmer-jammer
Thank you! Exactly what I was hoping to hear.
Just done chapter 3 and enjoyed the introduction of the rats and exploration/puzzle solving aspects.
Then chapter 4 and back to the stealth trying to distract guards and sneak past a bridge (sigh).
It does seem well made though.

@KilloWertz There’s definitely an element of “user bias” here but I think there’s more to it than that! 😜

@velio84 @render @Fragile Glad I’m not the only one. The fact that the game runs fine now takes the focus of the technical shortcomings and now it’s left with a rather complicated game that’s difficult to really get into.

Thrillho

@Sorteddan I really enjoyed Plague Tale and it’s a very achievable platinum too

The combat is quite weird as the game encourage you to mostly avoid it but there are some areas where you have to use it and the controls can be really fiddly to use.

@Th3solution @velio84 @Fragile You hit the nail on the head there. I think it’s enjoyable enough for me to want to play it but doesn’t feel as accessible as it should.

I did actually find a few technical issues - a few floating people and I crashed into a barrier when driving, the car then wouldn’t move so I ended up getting out only to see the problem was the car had sunk into the road. They didn’t cause me any problems but does seem that even after another year they haven’t completely fixed this game. From their recent news that they are going for Unreal Engine for the next Witcher game makes me sure that they have reached a point where RedEngine is too much of a handful and they need to start afresh.

@render After about 3-4 hours of game time, I haven’t had any crashes but yes, there have been a couple minor glitches too, like character clipping into cars and background scenery.

Voltan

After a pretty long break, the Mrs. and I went back to play several levels Sackboy. I discovered there was an “infinite lives” setting, which turned out useful as I’m sure we lost more than 5 lives in at least one of them.
Unfortunately she doesn’t play any games enough to git gud

Voltan

render

@Voltan I was unaware of that setting. Glad to know it exists though as we played it a load but really struggled when the kids chewed through all the lives 😆

render

Voltan

@render Maybe they added it in a patch in the meantime - but it’s probably just that I never looked through the menus before
The game might not be hard (in the regular levels anyway) but it’s not a cakewalk for somebody who barely knows how to use the controller either
Anyway, I’m still a big fan of the level design

Voltan

@Voltan I did finish the game but ended up doing a lot of the later levels on my own or with my wife. There really is a world of difference between those early levels and the later ones but it’s such a fun game, well apart from the level with the Britney Spears track 😉

JohnnyShoulder

@Voltan @render I too only found out about the unlimited lives option until quite late. Some of those later levels are hella hard, but the charm of the game is unquestionable. The Chemical Brothers level had me smiley face the most.

Anyone try the bonus levels after you finish the game? Think I lasted about 5 mins before giving up! 😂

@JohnnyShoulder @Voltan I’ve completed all the levels, even those bonus ones and yes they are brutal. I don’t have all the stars for those though like not dying or getting all the gifts etc. That was too much. I’ve also completed all the knitted knight trials bar the last one which is basically all the others put together and has a cut off time of 10 minutes.

That Chemical Brothers level is the best but the Mark Ronson one is a close second.

Voltan

@JohnnyShoulder @render We only just got to the 3rd world now (but we did do every level in the first 2, including the hidden ones where you get teleported to another world, except the knitted knight trials) so we probably still have the actual hard ones ahead of us
We didn’t find all the blue orbs / stickers though so I’ll probably go back on my own to clean those up. The ones she struggles most with are the ones where the camera moves forward on its own and forces you to be on the move constantly.

My favorite ones are the co-op levels.

@Voltan @JohnnyShoulder You've got a few more worlds to go yet but the levels keep on getting more challenging. I tidied up a lot of things in coop with my wife as she is way better at platformers than me. The knitted knight trials however I ended up doing on my own as they are really tough to do in coop, plus there were some that were ultra annoying and it's those sections when put in that final knight trial that usually end up curtailing my runs.

I still struggle to believe how hard this game was in the end considering it comes across as a really family friendly game but then it's probably easier than something like Crash for me. That is more infuriating than Elden Ring 😅

render

JohnnyShoulder

@Voltan @render Yeah I only managed the first few knitted Knight trials. They started to get too difficult for me after that. But I'll happily spend hours trying to get pass a boss in a Souls game lol.
