@psmr Man, I started on hard and just kicked it down a notch as I was getting my arse kicked. Those twirling dual-wielders sure know how to spam attack when in a group 😆

@Metonymy well don’t forget that you can always kick it back up again later on, as I did find it (the campaign at least) did get easier as you acclimated to the game and unlocked skills. I played it on Weapon i think, and I definitely could’ve done with upping it to Best There Is by the end. I didn’t though, as I wasn’t confident of being able to Adamantium the combat gauntlets on that difficulty (I barely scraped through on Weapon tbh 😅).

Glad it’s gone good for you so far though.

@psmr Thanks! Yeah, it was Weapon that I started on. I like how aggressive the combat system is, it really forces the player to control the flow of battle. I do wish the cooldowns were a little faster. The spinning move is the only crowd control I have right now and I was finding myself swarmed and stuck in a barrage of constant parrying that I was struggling to get out of. It’ll all probably improve, like you say, as I unlock skills and acclimate. Think I’ll bump the difficulty back up again then.

The game scored major points with me right off the hop for such an accurate rendering of Vancouver. I used to live there, they absolutely nailed the look and feel. I can’t say I was expecting to be slicing up baddies in the North Shore sulphur piles. Very cool!

@Metonymy all I’ll say is, by the time you have four special attacks unlocked, the cool-downs will feel about right as you would be just far too op otherwise. Particularly in the combat gauntlets, you’ll be keeping a specific special technique for a specific situation etc… it just adds to the adrenal-fuelled fun! If the cool downs were softer, you’d just use it knowing it’d be ready again anyway.

I’m looking forward to hearing when you’ve done your first gauntlet, they’re like a mini rouge-like slash/stab ‘em up bonus game.

I gave £50 for one advertised on a local seek and sell site so saved around £20 as they are advertised at £60 at Argos and i saved £10 in fuel as i didn't have to go to the next town to buy at Argos.

I started on normal and kicked it down one notch as i too was getting my arse kicked by those dual-wielders too often, i am no good at this sort of game never have been but do enjoy them, i like a challenge but when it gets frustrating i prefer to just go along with the story rather than end up hating the game even if it does mean finish it earlier.

Same here i was going to wit until after Christmas to see how cheap they got in the local second hand stores but having watched many reviews i couldn't.

Yeah started on the game as well (seems to good to skip). Have many tried NG+ yet?

@psmr The gauntlet sounds cool. I’ve done some nightmare doors but that must be different. I’ll let you know how it goes. Hope Vancouver’s been good to the missus’ daughter.

@Metonymy cheers buddy, I think she’s doing okay professionally but unfortunately her relationship seems to be a bit rocky rn… and that was the reason she moved out there 🫣.

So there are 4 combat gauntlets and they are actually one of the nightmare door variants… the only ones that pose a challenge really. You’ll know them when you try them 😉

@psmr Oh, that’s rough. Well, if she’s absorbed even a bit of your determination, I’m sure she’ll find a path forward, however that looks.

I’ll keep my eye out! I have to add, I’m really enjoying the level of environmental destruction on display as well. Insomniac’s done a great job of capturing what it feels like to embody a whirlwind of destruction.
