With the Death of Boxed PlayStation Games Incoming, Sony Records Its Best Physical UK Launch of 2026

Physical folks deciding to actual buy physic games instead of just lamenting that gamers no longer buy physical games, maybe?

Side note: Nice to see The Witcher 3 still getting the attention it deserves!

I bought Wolverine on disc, got platinum and now it's on the shelf and will stay there until some sort of DLC comes out. I think us in the UK have always been physical minded.

We all know that first party games from Sony sell very well in disc format.

This game was always going to have a strong launch on brand name alone. Whether it will carry on selling over the years is another question.

Responding to the title. I think we'll still get boxed games. Just won't have disced games. Might be like gta with a code in the box.

Bought it on disk and will sell once I get the plat.

Unsurprising really - I expect the game will sell very well across both disc and digital.
Just because discs are being phased out in over a years time, I don't expect people will stop buying them and move over to digital entirely, yet.

Imagine if they had put a special edition on the shelves with a free comic, like the one that should have been included with the game because it did serve as a prequel. My copy is physical, and is bare bones but if they released one that had a little more imagination I'd have gone for that one instead. If any franchise was going to go all out for a special edition it should have been a Marvel game, it's such a missed opportunity.

It's all Symantec's like weather you go out and get your weekly shopping in the store yourself or just order it straight to your door.
Interesting for those that care but doesn't really matter.

@get2sammyb Currys, Argos, The Entertainer plus a few other stores. Oram never even mentioned about retail if you buy off Amazon its still Physical disc. Basically Sony only seem to think US is the only place that exists all there decisions is geared to the US every other country be damned.

@Oram77 I think this depends on the age / generation. I always frowned upon buying digital because older siblings instilled it into me. Things like ownership, sharing games, cool things inside the instruction manual sometimes. We'd go to Game, Argos, HMV or Smyths and buy games we wanted.

Was shocked when University friends were scrolling through their library on their PS4 and jumping from game to game without putting anything in. I still get my games physical. Even got Yotei physical from Amazon. I don't know why I prefer physical but the convenience of digital for gaming doesn't do anything for me.

At this point why should we have to buy a console. Just stream the games like Netflix

most likely the real reason is that bigger portion of these single players games are more often bought to re-sell later.
That is exactly the biggest reason why all companies want to go digital only. Each person who will sell that copy again, is loss for Sony, MS, Nintendo...
almost 10 billion USD is unofficially in used games market annually... who is not happy about it? simple as that

it is evolution, none existing ps7 will be only servise on tv, mobile, notebook etc... nothing more. and you will only rent game or it will be "given" to you for selected period of time.... for "small" fee of course...
oh... and we forgot... we will be paying for servise, games and another new fee... streaming.
That is absolutely disgusting what MS came up with , 5 hours of steaming for a month?

I got it digitally as I got a code through a work colleague. Had that not been the case, I would have bought it physical and sold it a week or so later.

For me personally, playing it just prior and upon release felt like the worst parts of a Spider-Man game, and Insomniac’s flaws laid bare.

It’s not a bad game, just not really what I envisioned myself. So yes, good on those buying it physical, I dare say a fare few will be trading it in, not specifically buying it to list after it on a shelf in their retirement home.
