Wow, my progress has been abysmal. I’ve been too embarrassed to report. The best I can say for myself is that I am still sane (I think ... or am I?) and that I put a preorder on Shadow of TR and Spidey.
So ... I other words I’ve made more progress adding to my backlog than taking away from it. Actually I think we call that “regress” not progress.

@Th3solution you got 2 weeks before we all report back mate. Backlog regress has a ring to it, I like it. Someone on here mentioned saving on the spot - so I now use the term spot saves. I have a feeling backlog regress could join the gaming lexicon.

@themcnoisy Thanks! Hotline Miami is one of my favourite games on the Vita so far. The music really complements the gameplay. I have yet to play 2 but I listened to the soundtrack and it's great! Good luck finishing PES! I think after the soccer and silly platforming shenanigans you're ready for a more profound experience. Will it be Nier or God of War (or both).

@Kidfried Same here! I think it's great to keep track of the progress you make in the three main games you're playing in this thread but I also play some fighting games, enjoy a few puzzles in Hue with my girlfriend,...

My main gaming goal is still the Downwell platinum. Someday...

@themcnoisy @Th3solution “Backlog Regress” could be slang for a game you shouldn’t have bought but did anyway and now it’s in your library and you have zero intention of playing it but you tell yourself you will someday and it gives you stress, which can ultimately lead to “Backlog Regret”. Adding games you really want to play shouldn’t be considered regression IMO.

“I just found out this game has no spot saves. Hard miss, it would be mere backlog regress!”

@JJ-Firl @themcnoisy I like it. Nice ring to it. The evolution of the English language in action.

@Th3solution Sweet, another who's pre-ordered Shadow of the Tomb Raider! Can't wait until September. It helped that, when I pre-ordered, the girl behind the checkout was also a fan and was just as super-excited as I was. There was no queue, so we nerded out for a bit.

I also fully approve of "spot-save" and "backlog regress" joining everyday Push Square parlance. I'll try and use them where I can. Nicely developed, everybody!

So, just another Tuesday for PC gamers.

Seriously, I have hundreds of games in my Steam account that I don't know if I will ever play. And I'm not an especially well-off person.

I've just decided to officially add the ones I'm looking to play to my backlog and hide the rest.

@Ralizah Backlog regress not something to be proud of.

Actually, the more we say it, the more I think "Backlog Regress" sounds like something you should ask your doctor about a cream for. "Sorry boss, I won't be able to make it to the office today. My backlog regress has flared up again."

Although I fully support staying home to clear up a gaming backlog, and have done so before.

@Kidfried It's practically a right of passage to experience that sinking feeling when you realize how much Valve and Humble Bundle have contributed to your backlog without your even realizing it.

I'm finding that keeping explicit stats on my immediate additions and subtractions to my backlog each year is far more helpful and motivating than keeping some giant list of all the unplayed games I've collected over the years.

I also won't add PS+ or bundled games, because I value my sanity.

So far this year, I'm at:
12 games purchased (mostly indies that were on sale)
17 games completed

So, overall, I'm at -5 for backlog growth this year. Or, to use the parlance of this thread: -5 backlog regress.

My goal, which I probably won't reach, is to ensure that the number of games I've finished this year is roughly double the number of games I bought.

@ralizah Haha, I love this!

I'm at 8 games bought, 8 games completed (excluding everything Plus). That's a regress of 0! Seven feels really low compared to you, so hats off to your accomplishment.

@Kidfried TFW playing lots of video games is an accomplishment. This is why I love hanging with my people.

Any success in stemming the tide of the eternally growing backlog is a victory. Completing as many games as you buy is an extremely healthy habit.

So, if I divide the ones I beat up further, and cross-referencing with howlongtobeat.com...
[2] of them take an average of 1 - 5 hours to complete
[8] of them take an average of 6 - 10 hours to complete
[2] of them take an average of 11 - 20 hours to complete
[3] of them take an average of 30 - 49 hours to complete
[2] of them take an average of 50+ hours to complete

Of course, I go more completionist with some than others, which skews the stats a bit. One of the "30 - 49 hour" games I've spent 97 with so far, as it has a ton of post-game content.

Ok Ive achieved 2 of the topics I set out to do. Since then I have bought Dirt 4, God of War, Knee deep in Super Mario World and Cant finish the bloomin special cup 100cc on the snes mini. So my backlog regress is 2.

Then add in the fact Im now going for the plat in pes 18 and am tempted to run knack a tad more as its pretty hard and fun. And the fact I started that king in the sky throwing rocks angry birds beater psplus game (what the hell is that called?).

My backlog regress is now;
5

My PS4 software library says I've purchased 196 games and 92 ps+ games. I assume that 196 includes the 92. PSN Profiles says that I've played 128. And I have a few games I've not installed... does that mean my backlog regress is - 68?

Life is more fun when you help people succeed, instead of wishing them to fail.

@JohnnyShoulder I think including regress means you dont need to put a - symbol. So your Backlog regress is 68. Your Backlog progress is -68.

That is a lot of gaming.

I’m close to beating Assassin’s Creed 2 and I finished Bloodborne.
I also started Mass Effect 3 so that’s some progress.
-1 and more coming soon.
One wasn’t on my earlier list, but it needed to be finished so it was still good.

I've managed to clear 3 games off my backlog this week, Swords of Ditto - completed, God of War - Platinumed, A Way Out - Platinumed. I don't know how i balance my life and still manage to platinum games, I work full time, write reviews for Push Square, play cricket and have a girlfriend that requires 24/7 attention. Yet somehow I still find a little time to chip away at my insanely large backlog.

@Simon_Fitzgerald That is pretty impressive. It has taken me nearly a month to get close to getting the platinum on God of War and I've only managed 3 hours of a Way Out in two weeks with my friend.

@Rudy_Manchego I've got a folder of about 30+ triple A titles and a folder of 30+ indies to get through and they just seem to get bigger and bigger. Titles like Persona 5, Nier Automata, Witcher 3, Bioshock collection, Wolfenstein, Dishonoured 1 and 2, Child of Light, Tearaway, Hand of Fate 1 and 2, etc. It's endless!

@Simon_Fitzgerald Ha - I have almost the same titles in my backlog with the exception of Nier and Persona and thats excluding Switch, Vita and Xbox games. Just cut out sleep and you'll manage them all eventually.
