It hasn't been all that long since No Man's Sky's last big content update, Desolation, but Hello Games has been working on yet another. The studio has announced Origins, the latest major refresh to the persistent space exploration title.
We don't know too much about it right now, but the update is due to arrive this coming week. On the game's official website, Sean Murray teases that Origins is "the beginning of something new", calling it a "small step in a longer journey". He continues: "We know there is a huge appetite in the community for No Man’s Sky content, and the team has worked our socks off this year to deliver in difficult circumstances."
Given how much has been added to the game through the years, we're not sure exactly what Origins will entail, but we're interested in finding out. Roll on next week, then. Are you still playing No Man's Sky? Fly through a black hole in the comments section below.

I feel like they should've waited for the PS5 launch day and put this out as a "next gen patch" to stir up more interest.
@Matroska The thing I wonder is how many people are still buying the game?
I picked it up for £5 or something silly a few years ago post Atlas and enjoyed it but nothing since has made me desperate to go back. So I wonder how many people are deciding now is finally the time to buy it.
But big respect to them for continuing with such big free updates this far down the line.
@Thrillho Yeah, I agree. But that's why I think positioning it as a kind of pseudo launch game would give it a big helping hand. All those people looking at lists of games available on Day 1 and seeing this Origins update... I think that'd really help. I have to imagine that the PS5 remake of Demon's Souls is gonna tempt a lot more people as their first PS5 game than if it was just a remake on PS4, more akin to Dark Souls Remastered.
@Matroska I reckon there will be a PS5 and xsx version with all content as a whole package and they'd probably offer a upgrade path as well most likely.
Dev of the generation. Other devs should be taking notes.
This game has apparently gone a long way since I bought it at launch before returning it three hours later.
How are these people making any money? Its a few years since this released now and they've had constant free updates since.
The only thing that keeps me from playing this game is better and more varied fauna and flora!
@carlos82
I reckon it's still selling pretty well. Every time they create free content, it results in news articles like this, which generates interest, thus new sales. The cycle goes on and on.
I'm impressed how much support this game received considering how horrible it started.
I'm still waiting for them to finish it.
I mean, it's mostly still a 1 player game right, it's not Wow.
@Thrillho People like me buying it again for the ps4 because ever since the beyond update the Xbox One has had problems loading textures properly so creatures look green with no detail and rocks look blurry, and grass sometimes doesn't fully load so it looks fat.
@rjejr I (and most people I know) only play single player games so not a problem
I really hope this gets an update for ps5. I wanna play it in VR but it is a little blurry on the ps4
Soooooo... still no Pro patch for VR eh?
@rjejr Its had full on MP for over 2 years now and even has crossplay.
If Giant Worms aren’t included, I’ll scream.
YES I play it still today. I did the daily mission this morning. I bought the limited Edition at launch and enjoyed it as it was. But wow I feel guilty now every time new content comes out and is still FREE. I also loved Elite Dangerous but haven played it in quite a while.
@Brydontk
That quickly? I'd be surprised if you got a full refund.
The gift that keeps on giving. Love the support this dev has shown this game.
@Steve30000 The manager who was working at the gamestop at the time pretty much gave me a knowing look and said, "No Man's Sky? Yeeeeah, we'll take it back". Not sure if it was because a bunch of people had complaints about it or if the guy was just a decent guy but I returned it... Can't remember if I got a refund or swapped it for something else.
I still go back to NMS every time there's an update and easily get another 20-30 hours out of it minimum. Absolute gem of a game that I've really enojyed from day one. Only regret is that I haven't got a PSVR to try it out that way, so I'm hoping we can do so with whatever VR solution comes to PS5 via backwards compatibility or a next gen patch.
@WallyWest
Thanks, I didn't know about the full on multiplayer, I thought it was just like signs that say xx2girls1cupxx was here. I've been meaning to pick it up for the 1 player just to play thru the story.
@rjejr Yeah the game even requires Plus now if you want to play online. You have a big hub where tons of players meet, you can do missions with them and you also do full on co-op with friends if you wish. While insanely rare it is possible you may even come across a random player on your travels.
To give a cool idea of how Online can work is this, this morning i was doing a community challenge what required me to go to this specific planet, i got there only to find a random player hanging outside the Portal what takes me to this Planet and basically welcoming anyone what comes through, i then go to the location i needed to go to only to find i need these rare resources for the mission but because this community challenge is the same for everyone a bunch of players who were there previously have created a farm near where i was what grows these rare resources basically making the mission dead easy.
@WallyWest That sounds absolutely nothing like I remember about this game when it released. Maybe I should try it out. Or at least add it to the list.
