Persona 5 Royal reviews are beginning to hit the web, and it's looking exceptionally good for the enhanced role-playing title. Right now at the time of writing, the game sits at a staggering 96 on Metacritic, making it one of the most highly rated PlayStation 4 titles ever released. Considering the original Persona 5 topped out at an incredibly impressive 93, this is crazy.
We don't have a review for you just yet -- you can read more about that through here -- but we will have one ready for your perusal before launch on the 31st March. In the meantime, we've gathered a handful of reviews from other sites below.
RPG Site - 10/10
Persona 5 Royal is phenomenal, and if you go into it with an open mind I'm sure it'll take your heart just like it did mine.
DualShockers - 10/10
Persona 5 Royal is certainly worth the price of admission for newcomers. And if you enjoyed the original and are eager to jump back into the fray, then there’s certainly more than enough new content and improvements to justify a second purchase.
TheSixthAxis - 10/10
Persona 5 Royal is a stunning game that takes something which has already captured millions of hearts, and makes it even better. This is the quintessential Persona experience. If you're new to the franchise, this game is for you. If you're a seasoned veteran, there is enough new and improved content that this game is still for you.
Slant Magazine - 5/5
If 2020 is indeed the year where it finally sinks in that we can’t rely on the adults in the room to hold societies together, we’ve never been more in need of a fantastical experience where you can stand up against all the world’s problems, with the best friends anyone could ask for right by your side.
We Got This Covered - 4.5/5
Persona 5 Royal offers so many changes to the core game that it feels fresh, all while keeping its original charm and style. With a brand new story arc and characters, as well as combat mechanics and updates to the social aspects, it's without a doubt the definitive way to play Persona 5.

I'm far from a big Persona fan, but clearly those most enthusiastic about the original release would be lining up to review this one first. Not surprised it's doing so well, then.
Well IDK, the original is one of my favourite games of all time but I wouldn’t say I’m overly excited about this just because it’s an 80 hour game and I’d rather play something new like FF7R.
Very nice. I still haven't seen the ending of the vanilla P5, so I'm hyped to get this "complete" version.
The score will lower, but probably not by a whole lot. Currently, I believe it's third highest-rated exclusive of the generation after Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey.
I'm waiting for a hopeful Switch announcement as i prefer playing Persona on a handheld, i already own the original version on PS4 so i can easily wait until its either announced for Switch or the PS4 version is on offer.
Well deserved aswell, arguably the best Jrpg this gen just tipping DQ11
Waiting until a sale, but definitely getting this. As far as the story and characters were concerned, I think this game was a step down from 3 and 4, but it has godly art direction. It is so incredible that it fuels momentum through such a long game. Also despite its length, I felt the final part and ending of the original P5 felt rushed, so I'm looking forward to the changes.
Sammy will be furious
I want to pick this up, but sadly with how busy things are going to get pretty soon, I'm probably going to have to til July at the earliest to give this game the time and attention it deserves.
@Shirayuki Huh, there is a new character that changes up stuff through most of the game, new social events from existing characters, as well as stuff just changed and added throughout the game. It’s far more than a new semester.
I have the complete edition, but never got around to playing it. I don't feel like paying extra for royal for some changes. They should have had an upgrade option. The fact that they don't shows they're greedy and I don't support such practices.
So, I'll just play the one I already have... eventually
I'll probably get this when it's around 20€.
God why did they have to jam pack nioh 2, trials of Mana, ff7, and p5r all together? :'^(
That's impressive, although persona 4 golden reviews higher compared to base game (persona 4), maybe atlus is really good at this updated games things
I think I'm gonna cancel my steelbook and buy the $70 digital version with ps4 dynamic theme, that theme is soo good.
Here's the ps4 dynamic theme: https://twitter.com/eks2009/status/1201924518211653638
@Shirayuki Have you played it?
I'll need to leave my house to pick up a copy. It's worth the risk.
I bought p5 but have never had the chance to play it yet. Are the quality of life improvements worth playing this version instead?
I have a agree with @Shirayuki here, I'm not for buying the whole game over and having to start the whole game again for the extras. Yep, P5 is a great game but reselling the game with added DLC and forcing a start over is not for me.
