Release Date: 24th Apr 2018 (USA) / 24th Apr 2018 (UK/EU)

A friend can join your adventure in The Swords of Ditto at any time, and playing cooperatively can give way to so many cool moments. Whether it's solving a quirky little puzzle together or tackling a dangerous foe as a duo, it's easy to whittle away the hours when you're teamed up. What's more, the game's randomised elements, such as its map, give you and your best buddy a good reason to keep coming back.

Release Date: 7th Jul 2015 (USA) / 7th Jul 2015 (UK/EU)

We can't talk about multiplayer without mentioning Rocket League. Up to four players can play offline in split-screen, and the football-with-cars action is as immediate, tense, and brilliant as ever. After several huge updates, you're not just limited to football, either - variants on ice hockey and basketball, as well as the floor-smashing Dropshot, should keep you and your buddies glued to the PS4 all night.

A beat-'em-up dungeon crawler with a gorgeous art style, Dragon's Crown Pro is a rich experience that's fantastic when played with friends. Drop in, drop out co-op allows up to three other people to join the fray, with AI companions filling any gaps, if you so wish. Dungeon delving as a group is always a pleasure, and taking down hulking bosses in record time is supremely satisfying.

Publisher: Warner Bros / Developer: TT Games
Release Date: 16th Oct 2018 (USA) / 16th Oct 2018 (UK/EU)

We could've thrown any LEGO game on this list, but DC Super-Villains is probably our favourite on PS4. As always, you can play it with a buddy with its drop-in/out co-op. It's lighthearted, fun local multiplayer, and a great game for parents to play with their kids.

11. Gang Beasts (PS4)

Gang Beasts (PS4)Gang Beasts (PS4)
Publisher: Double Fine Productions / Developer: Boneloaf
Release Date: 12th Dec 2017 (USA) / 12th Dec 2017 (UK/EU)

This bizarre brawler was a long time coming. Announced for PS4 years before its eventual release in 2017, Gang Beasts is mad, scrappy, and sort of genius. You and up to three others control primary coloured, gelatinous Beasts, and your aim is to eliminate the other players from a selection of unusual levels by any means necessary. The results can be uproariously funny, with wacky physics causing all sorts of slapstick mayhem. With its irreverent style, this one's a real crowd pleaser.
