Oh, this is good – this is very good. Kojima Productions simply can’t resist showing off Death Stranding, and as part of its TGS 2018 stage show, it’s put up an 80 second clip introducing Troy Baker’s character, who’s aptly known as “the man in the golden mask”. The newcomer – who’ll be voiced by Satoshi Mikami in Japan – seems like a potentially ominous foe (or is he?), as he uses his face gear to summon an Eldritch enemy that would impress even H.P. Lovecraft himself.
We really do like this scene: Baker's in vintage anime mode, cranking up the melodrama with ease, and the animation on the gelatinous bull creature is just brilliant – particularly when it begins pawing at its mask like a cat would to clean its face. There’s some serious Grade A talent attached to this project, so while we appreciate the frustration regarding gameplay footage, we can’t help but feel enthusiastic about it – creatively, it appears to be shaping up to be something special.
In other news, American actor Tommie Earl Jenkins has been signed up to play protagonist Sam’s boss. He’ll be voiced by Solid Snake actor Akio Otsuka in Japan, but the developer’s keeping the reason for his mask a secret for the time being. According to director Hideo Kojima, the project’s still coming together in a timely fashion, although a firm release window has yet to be announced. There are some cryptic clues pointing to 2019, but we’ll have to wait and see.

Love it.
I miss when Troy Baker did anime.
Very, very, very cool 😎😎😎👍
@get2sammyb Tactical Eldritch Action = TEA...strong, with a dash of milk and a heaped teaspoon of sugar. And throw in a couple of ginger nut biscuits for good measure ☕️
@jacobia I'll have a chocolate Hobnob, please.
@Tsurii Because Kojima just so happens to have a track record of making critically acclaimed games?
Looks ridiculous. Hopefully the game itself holds up.
Let's be reasonable about this: everything Kojima has touched turned to gold, so this will probably be GOAT material. I don't get why people need to be so unreasonable that they want to see gameplay first.
@Tsurii So wait and see some game, then? The guy has a legendary career packed to bursting point with vintage games that are both recognised for their stories and — surprise, surprise — their gameplay mechanics.
Just let him do his thing. You don't have to like the way he's doling out information on this project, but I'm tired of this insinuation that it's "just a movie". Kojima is a brilliant game maker, as his 30 year career illustrates.
@Tsurii if you have played the mgs series (especially mgs5), you would know that gameplay is one of his strong suits as well as cinematics. Based on that alone and 30 years experience in making games I think it is fair to assume that his next game will have sound gameplay as well.
Looks good. can't wait to see gameplay
I don't get the negativty tbh. Why are people so desperate to see gameplay when the funnist parts have been about the characters and setting a putting it all together. There's plenty of time to show gameplay since we don't know when it's coming out, besides we saw some gameplay at E3 that should have been enough for people but it seems some just want to know everything before a game is out these days which is sad cos it's nice to be surprised sometimes.
I see a lot of people complain about the gameplay, and that we've seen none. All I can say is, play MGS games. Any of them. Kojima, knows his craft, perhaps better than many in the industry.
About the trailer, loved it and I'm hyped all over again. Can't wait to play it.
This is looking awesome. Can't wait to see some gameplay but Kojima should take his time. This is his first big project with his own studio and I think a grand slam title would shut the haters up. Only time will tell. Uggh I hate being impatient.
doctor doom.word up son
I don't know why, but I am totally on board with this game now. That looks awesome.
The concept looks intriguing, the cast is top-notch.
And it looks like the usual suspects have a new target to focus, haha. xD
@medic_alert I know I was thinking "this Your so Money Supermarket ad is a bit weird"
@Kidfried I apologize if yours was a sarcastic comment, but, you know, Poe’s law and all that.
I for one think DS is looking great and (most importantly) unique and never-seen-before, but how exactly does wanting to see gameplay of a videogame before judging it amount to an unreasonable request?
Nice, this looks like a boss fight
Hmmm i dont know. I was more interested back when i thought it might have more of a horror atmosphere but its looking to be kind of typical (yet some how original) zany japanese fair.
@kixem
Maybe its about what you think the concept is? I'm not completely sure myself except for its the MGS type of game with time shifting/travel with all sort of weaponry known in history. I just watch these trailers from an artistic and entertaining point of view rather than really informative.
This one is more about introducing TBaker so that's some very news imo
I think people would like to see something else from this game because currently it doesn't look like something I'd find interesting?
I am interested in solid gameplay only none of this extra stuff he is doing. I do not need to hear about celebrity visits or see the latest product with his logo on.
It looks interesting, but at the moment I couldn't care less about it. All we've seen gameplay wise makes it look like a walking sim. I'm not gonna knock the game because we still hardly know anything about it, but if the E3 trailer from this year is how the game ends up, I'll have to pass on this one.
Everything is better with Troy Baker 😄 I love the fact that several trailers in I still have no idea what this game is about or how it plays! I do get fed up with hearing too much detail about games way in advance of release - I love being surprised by games; yes sometimes you get disappointed but nothing beats the wow feeling of discovering something amazing as you play.
I've only ever played the opening of MGS5 but plan on jumping back in at somepoint, But with this i'm all in!
Who has the bigger shrine in Sammy's house, Kojima or Jason Schrier
Keep Doing your thing Kojima 👍👍
@clvr I wasnt sarcastic, though my comment was tongue in cheek. But I can be serious too: they haven't shown live gameplay, because that probably isn't ready yet. Kojima's games are incredibly ambitious always, and that's why they take longer to make than other triple-A games.
I think the trailers show a great world, full of imaginative things, that I would love to explore and try to understand. Kojima's gameplay has always been very solid and ahead of the pack. And now he has the support from Sony instead of Konami - imagine what he can do with Horizon's engine.
We don't know if this game will deliver on its promise, but that's something we never know ahead. What we've seen so far looks great and we know that Kojima is capable of delivering something memorable.
Comments like "when do we finally get gameplay" come across as entitled, and yes, they're unreasonable as well, because it's quite clear the game isnt ready for it yet.
Glad to see that this game still makes as little sense now as it did when it was first revealed.
@kixem I think it's the feeling of most people here too. I think some people have faith that kojima is making something good despite the lack of game.
@RedMageLanakyn Pretty sure it's Taylor Swift actually. Not that it matters.
holy smokes...
This is going to be awesoooooooome
I think the coolest thing about this game will be the reasons WHY you are doing whatever your doing.
I think we have seen snippets of gameplay - traversal over canyons, rivers etc. It's the reasoning behind what your doing that is so intriguing and will be make or break when it comes to controller time.
So obviously, the story will stack up in typical convoluted Kojima fashion.
But as always, he produces something that has an identity and style of its own. In a gaming industry of clone after clone this looks to be fresh, weird and engaging.
Wow, this looks pretty cool. That beast looks like a boss straight out of Bloodborne. Lovin’ the art style.
Oh baby, this got me more hyped for the game.
@hotukdeals You will hear it when he is ready. 😁 😃
@Tsurii I concur. Plus, I don't even think Kojima's games are that great. In many ways, the MGS games are painful, with all the cutscenes and weirdness. I recognize his games are very artistic and unique, but I just don't find them fun.
@Kidfried I interpret it more as people are concerned that there is not looking like there is much gameplay to it.
@doctommaso People probably didn't play MGSV, hundreds of hours of gameplay.
Cayde-6 isn't dead after all.
If only there wasn't so much beef between Kojima and Hayter i would have loved to see him in this game some how I really would have as himself maybe
Looks like Kojima sneakily confirmed Stephanie Joosten's appearance in this too.
the constant vague character teasers are getting kinda old now, Kojima I don’t care about your holleywood friends. i really hope he’s footing a small portion of the marketing costs at this rate.
