One of our favourite PlayStation VR launch titles was Battlezone, Rebellion's tank battling game. Though it works great in virtual reality, some players were disappointed that the extra hardware was required to play the game. Now, the developer has announced Battlezone Gold Edition, which will remove the need for Sony's headset, allowing any PS4 owner to get to the action.
Releasing on 1st May, the Gold Edition includes the main game itself along with an all-new Classic Mode and all the collectible bobbleheads and tank skins. Existing owners of Battlezone will be able to upgrade to the Gold Edition for no extra cost. You can check it out via the trailer embedded above.
Will you be playing Battlezone once the Gold Edition releases? Fire an EMP into the comments below.

Add it to the co-op list, @Quintumply.
Just kidding. I really enjoyed this with PSVR; not sure if it would have the same impact on a standard screen. You end up having a profound connection to your partners in virtual reality, which is particularly prominent in the final stage.
Classic mode Wish it had 4 player split-screen mode with Bots tho Miss games like that with a few REAL mates around the TV. Happy days
Sweet!
Loved the look of this and was one of those people who wanted a non-VR version.
Can't see the point in playing it without VR tbh it loses its biggest selling point. I've said before but why would people buy a VR headset if most of the best games end up not needing it in the first place. People would just take the wait and see approach.
Is the game not a lot more fun with VR? Nice that its a free gold upgrade for the early adopters. That is what all the developers should do instead of ripping off the people who jump in with at the start.
Great for those who don't have VR but I can't play this without the headset, the feeling of sitting in that massive tank is amazing and this will lose so much impact on a normal TV
@adf86 clearly because the experience is different. I had no interest in Skyrim, but bought SKyrim VR when it came out.
@get2sammyb are you going to review it this time around?
YES!! Loved this game but could hardly play it because VR made me so sick. Great news!
May 1st is going to be one of the best gaming days of the year between Battlezone and Super Mega Baseball 2.
@hi_drnick I think I did review it, right? Did I not add a score?
Great game in VR with virtually no interest on a flat screen. Reminds me of Eve Valkyrie : one of the best VR experiences avalaible, they made it compatible with flat screen in a recent update and the result was... meh.... Yeah, no.
This is not a good move :
1) the game won't gain a million sales by using this kind of strategy. It was developped with VR in mind, so it's potential buyers already got the game.
2) the game won't be judged as positively as before on a flat screen. Bad buzz, or no buzz at all. Valkyrie did not encounter suddent success with its non-Vr update. Because the game, without VR, is simply not as good as with it.
3) this kind of move is bad publicity for VR in general, right at the moment where it seems to finally take its flight (prices are lower, games keep coming). Potential PSVR buyers will just wait, now. Wait to see if, by any chance, the game they're interested in would eventually be patched for non VR players. By exemple : a lot of people think Moss looks really great, but are just waiting for a non VR update. So they don't buy the headset (which you HAVE to buy, just for Resident Evil and Wipeout. And Farpoint. And so other games.)
@get2sammyb Battlezone page contains no review. You mentioned previously that you hadn't had time to review it.
@hi_drnick Wow. I thought I had reviewed it TBH, my bad. Oh well. 7/10.
@get2sammyb didn't quite meet your expectations?
Woohoo
