You may remember that, about a week ago, the ESRB rated Final Fantasy XV Royal Edition, with speculation that it was some sort of all-in-one package. Well, it turns out this was exactly right.
The Royal Edition combines the original game with all of its Season Pass content, which includes Episode Gladiolus, Episode Prompto, Episode Ignis, and the multiplayer expansion Comrades. However, this version of the game goes further than that, bringing a few extra features even for previous players.
The map has been expanded to include a new dungeon in Insomnia City Ruins, and a number of new bosses have also been thrown into the mix. You'll also be able to captain the Royal Vessel and explore the sea between Cape Caem and Altissia. Additionally, there will be a first person mode, new gear, and more besides. This sounds like a pretty generous deal, honestly, offering lots of extra stuff for both new and old players.
However, if you do already own Final Fantasy XV, the Royal Edition extra content comes in at $19.99 as a separate purchase, which is perhaps not so generous. If you're interested, Final Fantasy XV Royal Edition will release on 6th March, so there's not too long to wait.
Will you be treating yourself to the Royal Edition? Are the extras worth the extra dosh? Sail the Royal Vessel into the comments below.

looks like my patience has paid off now i will buy the this game
$19.99 is quite pricey. Would be nice if it included the Season Pass content as well. Oh, how much is the Final Fantasy XV Royal Edition for people who don't own the original Final Fantasy XV?
Edit: Nvm, it's $49.99.
How much money do Square want out of me?
I already purchased the digital deluxe edition with the season pass. Yet to actually play the DLC episodes and more episodes are planned.
So FFXV Royal Edition is the new base game and there will likely be another season pass.
Nice way of treating your Day 1 customers.
I bought the season pass for Final Fantasy XV and I still haven't played any of the DLC. I really don't feel like throwing another twenty notes at this game. If they fixed up the story a bit then I might be inclined to go through the game again, but at this point, I'm over this game, and wish they'd move on.
@WanderingBullet Did i read it wrong i think it does?
I hope it will be completely on disk.
First-person mode? 😂
That's lame. Folks who already purchased the game and the season pass should get the other add-ons for free.
Figures they add an airship and it comes with a $20 pricetag. The PSVR fishing game I can understand, but this is primo BS.
@Flaming_Kaiser I thought so too, initially but I don't think it does.
Sorry, but the season pass hasn't exactly given me confidence in FFXV's additional content. Can't see a dungeon, an "explorable" sea, and a first-person mode being worth $19.99.
I continue to ask: why?
Will all this new content finally take ff15 over 100GB? Honestly the only dlc i really enjoyed was episode ignis (although the friendly fight can go to h e double hockey sticks), not buying the multiplayer at that price and while sailing the sea sounds cool id have to see some bad ass boss battles take place to make it worth while
Give it another 10 years and this game might actually be finished 😂😂😂
well at least i can still get the extra content without having to but the game again and i don't mind paying for DLC like this
@TheBraveFencer there is already a airship in the base game, you can unlock it after finishing the main story
I loved, finished and sold the vanilla release so its nice to see this final version. Im interested, yet really unsure if it would take precedence over the new releases coming out this year.
I do feel a tad sorry for the season pass owners though and yet another reason to stop buying them.
I genuinely enjoyed FFXV the first time around but have been pretty appalled by the way they've updated the game afterwards, and incredible that they now feel they can charge for these extras outside of the season pass when you could argue they should have been in the game in the first place, as they mostly seem designed to make up for the final third of the game which was clearly rushed/under-developed at release.
I'd love to play the full experience, but there is no way I'm paying that much to do it, and I'll be thinking twice about pre-ordering a FF game from now on, which as a longtime fan is really disappointing to say.
@themcnoisy i can see why it would upset some people (not me) but this is no different to games like Destiny, Witcher 3, Batman Arkham City or Skyrim getting a game of the year edition as that's all this really is and after all lets use Skyrim as the example that had loads of DLC people paid for then released an edition with it all included and no one complained then
of course this is Square and Final Fantasy though so people will complain regardless as apparently they can't do anything to please people, seriously the FF fanbase can be more petty and abusive than Star Wars and Star Trek fans at times
Sounds well and good for fans of the game, but considering how fast paced the combat is (warping etc) surely the 1st person mode would be too disorientating?
Some cool new additions but I'll wait till the price drops before I double dip.
So glad I haven't bothered picking up the season pass yet! Might wait a little bit longer though just in case they release another version of DLC...
@FullbringIchigo I meant the extra area not being included in the season pass. Dont get me started on Destiny 2 lol.
@themcnoisy oh well it's not like that doesn't happen with other games either but as for Destiny 2 i never got it, i was really disappointed by the first so never bothered with the second
@FullbringIchigo Bungie cut out previously playable content for base users and I immediately sold the game. Terrible practice. Absolutely awful. Anyway I will see how the dlc bandwagon rolls in the next 6 months and maybe grab this version of ff15 in the Summer.
Like I said it before, my experience with FF XV is already over. I mean, the game is good, even if the plot is a mess, but I really don't care about the dlcs and to play it all over again because of some new features. Also so many games are coming.
Yeah, ive been patient, ill play this version.
Gonna go ahead and sell my PS4 copy now that the PC version has a release date. The prospect of gameplay mods and a smoother framerate is too tempting!
I would have purchased this being I only had the base game but I hated the ending so much that I don’t care about the dlc nor will I be buying this version. (obligatory disclaimer: I know some people liked the ending and I respect that opinion but honestly I play video games to forget about dreary real life, I don’t want that as the reward for putting hours of my time into a game. I know one of the dlcs gave an alternative version of the ending but it was still crap).
@Areus
This is really a shame, people that bought the game early are actually the ones getting screwed.
What a load of BS. Twenty more dollars?
Get the heck out of here with that bull Square!
@Areus You'd think so, but Square-Enix plans to release a "Season Pass 2" with new story DLC.
This is separate from the new Royal Edition DLC mind you. Which Season Pass 1 owners will not be getting for free.
@Flaming_Kaiser @WanderingBullet Royal Edition does include ALL DLC included in the first Season Pass.
@Fight_Teza_Fight I only paid $20 for the base game, so spending another $20 for the new Royal Edition content plus all Season Pass content is a great deal!
@ShogunRok Royal Edition is $20 because it also includes all of the Season Pass content.
I really want to play the new stuff! must be a pretty big update if it's priced 20$ considered the pricing of the dlc till now.
And the game has been extra generous with free updates, it must be said
@ToddlerNaruto Sorry, so the $20 Royal Edition DLC has the all Season Pass contents? Or were you referring to the $50 version? $20 is a good deal since the Season Pass is currently still $25.
@WanderingBullet Both versions as far as I know.
If it's just the $50 version that has everything, I do apologize for confusion.
@ToddlerNaruto No worries, and thanks for the info, btw.
@FullbringIchigo Yeah I meant more with the ability to "explore the sea between Cape Caem and Altissia".
